I couldn’t wait to keep reading this book each day. Thea is a fiercely independent girl who discovers her unknown past is more magical than she could have ever dreamed. The book is filled with magic, mystery, adventure, and just the right amount of romance. Looking forward to the next book.
A fun, fast-paced action fantasy set in the realm of the fae but unlike any I’ve read before. Thea is dragged into a war of good and evil but with a twist uncommon for young adult fantasy. This novel includes lovely messages about choices, that no one is born evil and the power of forgiveness. Horn’s style is good and keeps you turning the pages while adding the unexpected, which is refreshing in this genre.
What would you do if you were suddenly whisked away in a new world? One where you needed to help the weak, deal with a forbidden love, and fight for survival. This is a deeply addictive story about a teenage girl Thea who realizes she has a lot more responsibility and power than she could ever have imagined. The pacing and excitement never slows down as our protagonist is thrown into a fantasy world. Where a full cast of unique, in depth, and charming characters come to life. Where battles and constant life threatening danger are no stranger, and a vibrant setting of Irish folklore meets fae folk comes to life.
Skye does a wonderful job in her debut fantasy novel, that expertly weaves a balancing act between romance, action, responsibility, and more. This is not a perfect happy fairy tale. The characters have realistic goals, moral obligations, flaws and imperfections, and feel a wide range of emotions. The story is sprinkled with humorous characters you wish existed and were your best friends.
I felt for Thea, Kieran, and many other characters who had me yelling at the book like they could talk back. The emotional journey, of heartbreak, discouragement, and rising up to help those in need and be mature and responsible when you just want to cry, were my favorite parts of the story. For those of you who are into Fae, this story delivers and then some. The magical powers and setting are very unique and original. I also never thought I’d enjoy a certain mythical creature in this world as much as I did. I am thoroughly looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Beautifully written, emotional, full of action with heaps of possible opportunities and outcomes.
Trying to find out why she has been orphaned, Tamara finds herself in the land of fae being told
the fae and humans had been waiting for her return.
Is it possible for Tamara to become the fae they believed she could be will she finally have people around her who love her, will she be part of a family.
This is a wonderful fantasy with magic, power and romance alone with being so well written that during a number of intense chapters I found myself crying my eyes out. Its impossible to imagine anyone having to try and deal with different types of grief, fear and insecurities without feeling for the one who is suffering, Author Sky Horn has created a magical world where everything seems magical but evil always tries to ruin and destroy everything so as the reader we experience all the depth whether it is pain or love, through this authors creative writing style.
Without saying to much if you love the possibility of love and magic fighting to defend the innocent then this is definitely a superb book to read grab your copy today.
“Is your love real enough to risk it all?”
This was a very captivating debut novel, and the start to the Kingdoms of Faerie series. Thea, though a little lost to her memories of a past she left behind, does not falter as she soaks in all there is to learn about her true history and what fate has in store for her.
Though life often gets in the way of truly diving headfirst into a novel (children will do that to you), the pull to finish this book was fierce. The romantic tension between characters is almost immediate, adding intrigue to the idea of class wars, magical might, and the concept of fate versus tradition that Thea struggles to come to terms with.
The only complaint I had with the book is that I had a hard time connecting with things in Thea’s past. She laments an old flame, but we’re not given enough of a glimpse into that life or that person to understand her feelings when they come to a head. It simply made the emotion of a scene early on hard to truly feel as a reader. But that isn’t to say that the rest of the book is without its rhythm – I was a brokenhearted mess come the end of the novel.
The book ends on enough of a cliffhanger that it’s a slight torture to wait until the next is released. But as far as fantasy YA goes, this was definitely well worth the read.
