This book was absolutely fantastic, even better than the first (which I enjoyed greatly).
“She was still the orphan whose world had been flipped upside down when a man with wings had stepped through a portal.”
I felt like Thea really came into her own in this novel. Yes, we saw her willingly walk into danger alone at the end of Wings of Fate, but here, we watched as she truly tried to embody everything she felt she should be – as a friend, as a fighter, as a Queen. I adored the new characters we met, especially Haven, as they all formed a strong, tight-knit group with Ivandor’s best interest in mind.
Kieran… I have so much to say, all of which is so terribly spoiling of the plot. I will simply say that the emotional coaster that we, the readers, were taken through this story just utterly wrecked me. In fact, tortured love aside, all of the twists, the peak, the action – the revelations! – that we were gifted during the journey made the book impossible to put down.
“For only with darkness can there be light, and only with light can there be shadows for darkness to dwell within.”
I am dreading the wait until Book 3, but with how the first two books have been, I know without question that it will be worth the wait.
Let me start off by saying that Wings of Fate hate me intrigued, but Wings of Deception lives up to its title and kept me engaged nonstop and will keep you questioning what you know throughout the entire adventure. This incredible sequel to the amazing Fae fantasy book written by Skye Horn, starts off shortly after the gripping finale where we left off Thea alone and hurt. However, she does not stay the same. so much will change in the Kingdom of Faerie, you feel like you are on a rollercoaster being turned upside down.
The action, romance, drama. suspense and our beloved Fae still here from last time. However, you should fully prepare for a twisted pretzel of a world and expect a lot of changes in both character growth and knowledge. Our wonderful Thea is still the lead protagonist empowered hero who is in control of her own destiny and kicking butt. Something that was delightfully added was the incredible amount of drama and romance that gets amped up even more than the first book. Kieran is stoic and amazing to watch, as he left our beloved princess out in the cold rain so to speak. Which both frustrated and intrigued me as to why and what he would be doing. I also enjoyed seeing Ethel and our other favorites again. Nevertheless, the new set of characters that get introduced, including a new strong female character will be just as enjoyable to enter this world as the cast you know already. Overall, I was screaming at the pages during certain romance scenes, action scenes, and plot twists. If you Fae, fantasy, and a whole lot of deception, seeing the journey of Thea in the kingdom of Fae continue will be well worth the read.
While in a land of magical fae, we follow the female M.C., Thea, facing very realistic challenges of a woman in a leadership role; challenging the traditional male leadership roles, complying to the stereotype of what a woman should look and speak like, how to behave with a soul mate deemed not right by society, facing the past, walking through grief, and managing the power within.
The fantasy elements of this story were nothing short of enchanting. The author paints the majesty of castles, brilliance of faery wings and potency of dark magic. Her description of soul bonds and the agony of separation among them brought to my heart both longing and aching.
I jumped into this series at book 2 and although I am keenly interested in going back to read book 1 now, it is not a necessary read in order to fully understand or enjoy book 2.
I highly recommend this book to all fantasy readers!
