One night. It was supposed to be one wild night with my friend—a fiercely sexy chef. Now I can’t stop thinking about her. Can’t stop craving her flavor. And that was before I found out our no-strings night resulted in two little pink lines. As the number one Winger for the Seattle Sharks and the last man standing in our bad-boy trio, the only lines I’m familiar with are red and blue. But while hockey … with are red and blue.
But while hockey is my life, Jeannine branded herself on my heart. She’s in so deep I couldn’t cut her out even if I wanted to.
What do I want? Everything.
She wants to do this on her own—she’s never needed a man. The little bundle swelling her gorgeous body isn’t going to change that.
I’ve got three months to change Jeanine’s mind—to prove I’m ready to trade the nightlife for dad-life, but for once, my reputation off the ice isn’t helping me score the girl. The harder I try, the higher she builds her walls.
The thought of losing them both is more terrifying than a career-ending injury.
Our clock is running down, and if I can’t prove that I’m all-in for her and our baby, our chance at forever will end in a shut-out.
This time I’m playing for keeps.

Winger was a heartwarming story about letting go and opening yourself to new things, stepping out of your comfort zone. At least that is what it was for both Warren and Jeannine. Both independent (her more so than him), strong willed and determined to live a single life forever, with no commitments. A one night stand leads them down a road neither of them expected. It was nice to see them navigate it together, and Kudos to Warren for stepping up and being a wonderful Man about it all. The only issue I had, and I think it is due to personal reasons, I did not like how Jeannine kept insisting she would do it on her own and she did not want Warren to be in their lives. A lot of women out there do not get that choice, there are men who walk away and never look back. To see Warren wanting to be responsible and her being stubborn about it was off putting. I know, I know… she was protecting herself, not necessarily the baby if you think about it. She did not want to get hurt and was using the baby as an excuse. At least that was my take from it.
Anyway, I revert back to my initial statement this was a heartwarming and lovely story.
I really enjoyed this book. It had the same flow as the first two books in the series, but was different in its own right. If you love alphas who are sweet and strong for their woman, you’ll love this story, too.
Warren and Jeannine fight their feelings, making this a slow burn, but it so worth the wait. This adventure of a story definitely makes me want to keep reading the series and more books from this author!
Two people who are career minded and married to their jobs decide to have a one night stand but when that one night results in a permanent connection all bets are off. As Warren and Jeannine muddle their way through the lasts months of pregnancy it appears these two have all their “i’s” dotted and their “t’s” crossed. However when those three precious words that mean the most to you don’t get spoken by either one, doubts creep in and a path paved in misunderstandings and trouble is sure to be the one you are about to walk down. Their story will drive you insane at times as you want to scream at them both to say what they feel. Winger is a story filled with love and heart and a lot of self discovery when these two realize that their lives could be enhanced with just saying I Love You.
I really enjoyed this installment of the Sharks. Warren thought he knew what he wanted until the unexpected was thrust upon him. And boy did he embrace it! *insert swoon here*! When Jeannine went off the rails and left, I was so mad. And then I remembered back to the first couple of months after I had my kids; how the crazies run rampant. So glad she realized what was happening and made it right. I have read all of Samantha Whiskey’s work and she has quickly become one of my favorite authors!!!
3.5 Stars
Warren and Jeannine (aka Nine), wave been flirting for over a year. Warren is leaving for six months to train and play on the Canadian Olympic hockey team. At his going away party, Warren and Jeannine get a little tipsy and decide to have a one-night bangapalooza. Fast forward six months and Jeannine is pregnant. She texted Warren, but he never responded so she assumes he wants nothing to do with her and the baby. Warren returns with a Bronze medal, and is shocked to find out Jeannine is pregnant. His phone was lost the day after he left for training, so he never got the message. The next three months, Warren is out to prove to Jeannine that he deserves a place in her and their child’s life. This was a really easy to read book, but I did have a couple of problems with the plot. Warren is so enamored with Jeannine that he doesn’t hook up with any other women during the six months he is away, but he doesn’t bother calling her. Also, Jeannine goes by Nine throughout the book. How is that pronounced? Nine, like the number, or Neen, how the end of Jeannine? That drove me a bit crazy. Jeannine’s character was a little hysterical at times and annoyed me. Warren was the perfect book boyfriend and mad this worth the read.
When Life Doesn’t Go To Plan
Winger is the first book I’ve read from Samantha Whiskey’s Seattle Sharks series, and I couldn’t put it down. This consuming story shows that sometimes life gives you what you didn’t know you wanted until it happens. Jeannine and Warren were so sure about what they wanted, or didn’t want, from life, but one night together changed things completely. I loved how the author uses a life changing event to show that it doesn’t have to mean your life is over. For me, I certainly don’t have the life I wanted and planned for, but the changes that happened have given me a life that I wouldn’t swap for anything.
Jeannine and Warren were two souls who were destined to be together. They don’t really ‘do things in the right order’, and it takes a lot of work and trust building, but they get there and have the future they deserve. I liked getting to see what happened to them after the life changing event, as this would usually be the end of the book, but Samantha Whiskey allows us to spend more time with this couple and see that they weren’t quite ready to overcome their fears and voice their feelings.
Samantha Whiskey is an author who knows what words to use to allow you to experience what her characters are going through. She pulls you in and gives you a story that allows you to forget about real life for while. I already have the first two books of this series on my Kindle, and I can’t wait to discover more about the other two couples who have a role in this book. It’s like being given the opportunity to spend more time with friends who you aren’t ready to say goodbye to yet.
I definitely recommend that you read this book, and I believe it can be read without having read the first two books.
*I voluntarily reviewed an advance complimentary copy of this book and all opinions are my own
Warren and Jeanine are part of the same group of friends, each a wild card, not ready to settle and happy to focus on their careers alone. After a going away party for him, they have a wild one night stand. Fast forward 6 months and he comes back to town to find her pregnant with his child.
Jeanine is an independent woman, used to fend for herself and doesn’t expect him to stick around to be a dad, but Warren is more than ready to take this role head on which makes him ask her to let him prove himself during the last trimester of the pregnancy.
I liked the storyline, but the characters were a little too stubborn and set on their ways for my taste. They are thrown into a difficult situation and never really talk about it which I find a little unrealistic and only serves to feed the miscommunication that keeps preventing the relationship to evolve. I was also unhappy about the final resolution as it fell completely flat on me.
This is just my opinion and I honestly thing the book might work better for other readers.
Jeannine is an independent woman who enjoys her freedom, she does what she wants, when she wants, and doesn’t let anything tie her down….then she has a little one night stand that changes everything. When Jeannine decided to take advantage of the chemistry brewing between her and her hockey playing friend Warren she never expected that one night to connect them for the rest of their lives, but the test she just took just proves otherwise. She has never really wanted to be a mom, her career has always came first, and that was the one thing her and Warren bonded over, but when she finds out she’s expecting, her life takes an unexpected turn. And knowing Warren the way she does she is certain that she will be taking this new adventure on her own, he isn’t the kind of man who wants a wife and kids. But maybe, just maybe he will surprise her, and prove her wrong!
Another amazing experience with one of Seattle Sharks finest, the moment Warren appeared on the page I found myself growing quite attached to him, he was the perfect hero, sweet, charming, confident, and oh so swoon-worthy! This was a fun read filled with lots of unexpected surprises, heartfelt emotion, and lots of steamy times to keep things nice and hot! I highly recommend you get your hands on this one, it’s an emotional little page-turner that is certain to tug on your heartstrings!!
I requested an advanced copy of this title, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion!
