Their dark secret could destroy her family
When Abbie Rambally meets the couple next door for the first time, she’s convinced something isn’t right. Why are the Paynes so fascinated by her oldest son and why do they ask so many probing questions about him? Then Abbie’s loyal and dependable nanny quits without giving notice, and Jenna Payne is only too happy to step in and help out. But Abbie … notice, and Jenna Payne is only too happy to step in and help out. But Abbie begins to suspect that the Paynes’ choice of neighborhood was no accident.
Abbie wants to believe she can trust her neighbors but too many things about the couple don’t add up. So when a stranger in a cafe calls Jenna by a different name, and insists they’ve met before, one thing becomes clear. If Abbie doesn’t uncover what the Paynes are hiding, her family will be in terrible danger.

Winds of Fear (Fearless Series Book 3) by Gledé Browne Kabongo
5-Stars
Winds of Fear (Fearless Series Book 3) by Gledé Browne Kabongo was an addictive and exciting read. This was the first book I have read by this author and I enjoyed it. The story can be read as a standalone and it immediately pulled me in. I was fascinated with the characters and plot. I loved how well each was developed and I struggled to put this book down. The author has an excellent writing style that made it feel that I was actually in the story. I was intrigued with how everything slowly unfolded in this story. I love Abbie’s character in this novel. I will definitely be reading more in this series in the future.
This is a new author to me and I was drawn in from the first page. I could not put the book down.
There is so much going on in this book that it keeps you guessing about what might happen next. There are enough twists and turns to keep you hooked on the book. I can safely say that I will be reading books one and two as soon as I can.
Abbie and her family are sure there is something up with the new neighbors and they can not figure it out, but they will be on their toes until they can get it figured out as the new neighbors just don’t seem quite right. They are asking a lot of strange questions and making Abbie and her husband uneasy. Please read the book to find out what happens from there. You will not be disappointed.
I would suggest that you get this book and get to reading. You will love it.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Just a wonderful psychological thriller! So hard to put down. A very complex plot. Wonderful characters. A child abduction. A parent’s nightmare. Various “bad guys” to sift through. A great read!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from Hidden Gems.
I have a thing about thrillers involving neighbors and false identities, so when I got the opportunity to read Winds of Fear by Glede Browne Kabongo, I jumped at the chance!
When Jenna and Charlie Payne move into the house next door, things start going bad for Abbie Rambally, especially after Jenna takes a special interest in Abbie’s 10 year old son Lucas. Before long, Abbie starts suspecting that her neighbors aren’t who they say they are and that their intentions could put her family in mortal danger.
The synopsis really sucked me in. I had to know what was up with Abbie’s neighbors, so I dove into Winds of Fear right away. The pacing is fairly slow for the first half of the book as Kabongo sets up the backstory for each character. However, once I got to the second half of the novel, the pacing sped up, and I was hooked! I could not stop reading even though it was way past time for me to go to sleep. I felt like this was where the most action really happened and where the actually plot and the meat of the story was. Kabongo is heavily into describing each and every thing which was a bit tedious, but in the second half of the story, I was hooked on every word, so I didn’t really mind. There were quite a few plot twists in Winds of Fear. In fact, every time I thought I had something figured out and felt smug about it, a plot twist would smack me right in the face! Though this book the third in the Fearless Series, I felt like it stands alone quite well without reading the first two books. Kabongo does a fantastic job of explaining what happened to Abbie (and her family) previously quite well. There is a fourth book that will be released in the series, but I found that all my questions were answered in Winds of Fear. However, I will be reading the next installment in the series because I want to know more about Abbie’s life!
The characters in Winds of Fear were very fleshed out and well written thanks to all of Kabongo’s backstory she added throughout the book. I enjoyed the character of Abbie although sometimes I felt like she was being a little too suspicious too early on after just meeting the Paynes…her paranoia just felt too rushed. However, Abbie was a very well written character besides that. I could feel how much she loved her kids, her husband, and her life. My heart went out to her when she was torn between her duties as a mother and advancing her career. I was beside myself when everything went down involving Lucas. Her pain and worry felt very realistic. I would have liked to see more of Ty, Abbie’s husband. Ty came across as such a fantastic man. I couldn’t help but love him myself after reading about him. His love for wife and children were obvious from the get-go. The Rambally children (Alexis, Blake, and Lucas) were all so smart and adorable. I just wanted to hug them all! I loved their close relationship and how they all wanted to help each other out. Blake and Lucas were fantastic with how inquisitive they were. I also loved Olivia (Liv). She seemed like such a sweet girl. I won’t go into much more detail about her, but I was saddened that I didn’t get to read more about her. Jenna and Charlie were also fantastic characters. I kept trying to figure out what they brought to the table and why they were so wrapped up with the Ramballys. Also, with the Iceman, I felt he really did live up to his nickname!
Trigger warnings for Winds of Fear include mentions of sexual assault (not graphic), drinking alcohol (although not to excess), violence, murder (not very graphic), kidnapping, and blackmail.
All in all, Winds of Fear is quite the psychological thriller. It’s got relatable characters, an interesting plot, and it makes you try to guess just to be wrong. I would recommend Winds of Fear by Glede Browne Kabongo to those ages 18+ to those who love to be sucked into a good book!

(A special thank you to Xpresso Tours for providing me with an eBook of Winds of Fear by Glede Browne Kabongo in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.)
This is the first book I have read by this author and the ARC was provided by Hidden Gems. I already owned another book in the series but did not have time to read it and the ARC in time for the review. Also, since I did not have the second book, I was hoping that it would not affect my reading of the third book. Although I followed most of the story and enjoyed it, at times I wish I knew more of the past of these characters.
This is the story of a seemingly perfect suburban family in Lexington Mass, as some changes are going on around them. While Abbie, the wife and mother, is getting ready to defend her dissertation they meet new neighbors that seem a little too interested in her family and especially her son, Lucas. The neighbors, the Paynes, have an agenda that is shown in the background of the story and Abbie is right to be concerned.
This is a great thriller and I enjoyed it more than I normally do with the suburban family setting. Thought the characters were relatable and interesting. The story kept me reading and trying to figure it out. My only issue was the fact that I felt like I would have understood more if I had read the other two books. My issue with that is the author could have given a bit more background that would have helped.
“People see what they want to see.”
Red flags are waving when Abby meets her new neighbors the Paynes. Jenna Payne is a nosy neighbor with no filter and is taking special interest in Abby’s oldest son. Little did Abby know that the Paynes would cause her family’s safety to come crashing down putting them in danger and stirring up her past secrets.
Winds of Fear keeps you so intrigued with its turn of events that you can’t put this book down! An emotional and heartbreaking experience that no parents should have to endure.
Thank you Hidden Gems and the author for an incredible complimentary copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
This book had me on the edge of my seat from
The beginning. It held my attention and had me screaming at the book, “what’s that mean!” “What happened?!” I didn’t realize this was the third installment of the book. It was a roller coaster ride that left me breathless! It was the best thriller I’ve ever read and I’ve read a lot of books! Now I’ll go back and read the first two! I couldn’t put it down and read it in one day! I highly recommend this book.
This is a very well written psychological story. It is laid out just so the reader gets enough information, but not the whole story at once. I enjoyed it very much. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book from Booksprout.
Winds of Fear was a thrilling and suspenseful 5 star read and book three in the Fearless Series.
I was pulled in right from the beginning.
Abbie is a busy mom who is working to get her PhD. She gets an opportunity to meet her new neighbors Jenna and Charlie when they stop by for a quick hello. Jenna shows a little too much interest in Lucas, Abbie’s oldest son. Which causes Abbie to get uneasy feelings.
When her kids nanny ends up quitting and is found dead, Jenna offers to take care of the kids until Abbie can find a new nanny. Things start to get even weirder and even the kids are starting to sense that some things are not right.
Overall this was a great read that kept me on the edge of my seat. There are several twists and turns, we get murder, mystery, suspense and so much more. This is my first read from this author and she pulled me right in with her writing. This book can be read as a stand alone, however I wouldn’t mind reading the first two books so I can connect better with the series. 1-click and get started today.
Winds of Fear hooks you right away and keeps you on your toes. Abbie is a realistic character who you root for, and it’s so stressful and heartbreaking to see her doubt her instincts. I enjoyed the point of view switches, where most of the story is told in third person but Abbie’s perspective is told in first person. I didn’t realize this book was part of a series. It works well as a standalone, but I loved the characters so much that I read the first two after finishing Winds of Fear. I reccomend those as well if you love these characters as much as I did and want more of their story.
Winds of Fear (Fearless Series Book 3) by Gledé Browne Kabongo
5 stars
Oh my word, what a book! This is a first read for me by this author, and I will now be going back and reading the first two in this series. I was able to read as a standalone but I want the backstory.
Its been a bit since I’ve read a mystery that I didn’t figure out way way before hand. I couldn’t read fast enough. I was sucked right in and while it took a bit to get used to realizing whose head we were in, as every chapter it switched with no header, i quickly picked up on who was who on how they thought/spoke.
I can’t wait to read more from this author!
Winds of Fear is the third book in the Fearless Series by Gledé Browne Kabongo. This is the third book but it can be a stand alone. I did not read the first two books but believe me I am reading them for sure now. Kabongo promised a gripping thriller suspenseful story and I believe she delivered that promise. Her plot line had me guessing throughout the story. Her characters were complex and relatable. In this book, Abbie Rambally is going to school for her PhD. She lives with her husband and three children. Being that she is in school, her family is a little busy and keeps her on her toes. New neighbors move in next door, and Abbie is concerned about the attention that they are giving her oldest child. Too many things are happening to her family and those around them. What exactly is going on? Will Abbie be able to figure it out? Is there something more happening that meets the eye? It is such a great read I HIGHLY recommend this story.
What a brilliant read! This had everything and more! It had twists and turns throughout that had me completely captivated and had me turning the pages until the very end! It had me on the edge of my seat with anticipation and leaves you actually second-guessing all you know about your neighbours. It is a vivid read, that you can’t help but become invested in. This was a brilliant introduction to this author and I can’t wait to discover more.
Winds of Fear: A gripping psychological thriller (Fearless Series) by Gledé Browne Kabongo. This book was one of the best I’ve read this year! This is my first book by this author and I’ll be hitting the rest as soon as possible. I completely agree that this can be read as a stand-alone with any confusion, but I’ll definitely be getting the others. From page one I knew I was in for a fantastic read with Abbie and I wasn’t wrong. This story had me on the edge of my seat most of the time and I loved every minute of it. The characters are so well written you can see each scene right before your eyes. The storyline is filled with suspense and twists that had me completely hooked! I can’t wait to read more from this author! Five stars all the way and highly recommended!
Winds of Fear (Fearless Series Book 3) by Gledé Browne Kabongo. This is the first book I’ve read by this author but it certainly won’t be my last. Its the 3rd book in the series but it can be read as a standalone. Its the story of Abbie Rambally who is chugging along with normal single mom problems until she gets new neighbors. They are fascinated by her oldest son to the point of being weird. When Abbie’s loyal Nanny up and quits without giving her any notice her new neighbor Jenna is more than happy to take over. Abbie begins to suspect the Payne’s are hiding something huge and she feels like she might be in danger. This book is so amazing I can’t wait to go back and read the others. Buckle your seat belts because its a fast ride!
In this suspenseful, scary yet terribly entertaining psychological thriller, you’re thrust into the world of Abbie, a driven, determined, strong-willed, dedicated mother, and wife. She’s dedicated a good chunk of her life to making the best life for her family. One that includes furthering her education, a goal she’s held strong with for a long time. Now, with things on a good track she feels like she can breathe again. But all does not stay on that track when her past threatens to overtake her current reality and her future. It started out with small things like new neighbors, questions being thrown out to them, moments of unease as well as incidents that shake the foundation they’ve built. Then it all hits the fan and suddenly Abbie is fighting for the one thing she holds closest to her heart, her family.
An unexpected threat is trying to tear her world apart. The question is, can she defeat it and get her life back? For a woman who has survived the unthinkable, this is the biggest crisis of her life.
This book was so amazing! There were so many times that I racked my brain, questioning everything and everyone as I read. I’ve become a suspicious reader that makes me think about things on a whole other level with each story I read. For me, this was an exceptional winner! I was thrown around with each twist, various POV’s and the sheer determination of Abbie. It has been quite some time since I’ve read a thriller that was able to grab me from the beginning and hold my attention. With this book, not only was my attention caught but held steady! I found myself reading half the book in one sitting, not wanting to miss a thing! I loved every bit of this book. Even though it can be read as a standalone, I would suggest reading the other books leading up to this one for more history on the characters and their stories. I will be going back to read them myself very soon.
From the very beginning Glede Browne Kabongo sets the scene of intrigue which makes the reader want to know more. Winds of Fear twist and turns with every page you read – just when you think you know what really happened to Lucas and who the Payne family really is, the author sends in a curve ball. By the end you realise that a mother’s instinct is never wrong and it a reminder to us all to listen to this little inner voice. This is the third book in a series about Abbie Cooper and while I haven’t read the others the author has done an excellent job of making it easy to understand events in Abbie’s life that have led us to this unthinkable situation. I am now looking forward to going back to the start of the series and re-introducing myself to Abbie Cooper.
Winds of Fear (The fearless series) by Gledé Browne Kabongo is a 5 star read.
Abbie Rambally is happily married to husband Ty they have 3 children, when new neighbours move into the neighbourhood and introduce themselves to Abbie and her family they take an interest in Abbie’s oldest son Lucas, Abbie gets a feeling that there’s is something wrong and tries to investigate it, but when the family nanny shows up dead Abbie isn’t sure who she can trust anymore and things start to spiral out of control.
This is a new author for me, I was hooked from the first page and couldn’t put it down, I then realised this was the third book in the series about Abbie but I don’t feel like I missed anything by starting on this book but I will go back to read the first two as I really enjoyed this one.
5 Star
Winds of Fear (Fearless Series Book 3) by Gledé Browne Kabongo is an Amazingly written psychological thriller that had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what happens next. I literally couldn’t stop reading I was pulled into there world and felt like I was right there with the characters. This Author has done an outstanding job with the development of the characters and the story just flowed. Although this is the third Book in this series it can be read as a standalone, I’m definitely going back and getting the first two books just so I can get the whole series. Exactly how well do you really know your neighbors? There is something about Abbie’s neighbors she just doesn’t trust especially when they just show up to help out with her son. What are the neighbors hiding? Find out what happens next in this must read. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.
Winds of Fear gripped me from the very beginning. Glede Browne Kabongo does a great job of building suspense and making the reader want more. As a mother, it was easy to connect to the main character, Abbie, as her suspicions grow when she notices her new neighbors are a little too interested in her oldest son. This story is emotionally packed as Abbie battles with trusting her instincts and trying to focus on her responsibilities as a doctoral candidate. I look forward to reading more from this author.
