Two veterans reunited at a Wyoming ranch reignite their passion for each other—from the New York Times–bestselling author of Wind River Undercover. Kira Duval was part of a Special Forces team that got caught in an ambush—leaving only two wounded survivors: herself and Weapons Sergeant Garret Fleming. Losing her team was traumatic, and in the chaotic aftermath, as the Army moved them from … the Army moved them from hospital to hospital, she lost Garret too. But she never lost her secret yearning for him.
Finally, she gave up trying to track him down back in the States. But as she settles in at the Bar C cattle ranch in Wyoming, a place where veterans can find a home and a place to heal, she’s introduced to her sandy-haired, hazel-eyed housemate: none other than Garret Fleming.
They’re a long way from Afghanistan—and a long way from the people they used to be before tragedy changed their lives. But as Kira earns her keep by caregiving for the ranch owner’s bedridden, alcoholic father—a task that sometimes feels more challenging than any black ops mission—she finds that even in peacetime Garret still has her back, and that in this warm, welcoming place, the passion she resisted in the heat of battle may finally have a chance to flourish…
Third in the series!
Praise for Wind River Cowboy
“Sensitive, powerful… McKenna has carefully interwoven the devastation of trauma with the power of healing love.”—Publishers Weekly

I firmly believe that veterans, who write about veterans, are the ones who can give us an honest-to-goodness-depth-of-emotion for their characters who are or have been in the military. In my opinion, Ms. McKenna gives us buckets…and it is truly believable. Wind River Cowboy is the third book in the series (yes, it is a standalone however I enjoy reading about the other characters and the ongoing story weaved into this tale) and Kira and Garret have a very touching story. I won’t retell it – I couldn’t even come close – but Kira and Garret were both black ops, on the same team overseas, and were in love with one another. However, the armed forces being what they are, neither one let the other know. Read the story to find out how they were torn apart after a deadly op and what leads up to their meeting at the ranch. Some may find their subsequent relationship a bit hard to read, as in, just talk to one another (!), however, I feel it works within this book. There is so much depth to all the other characters on the ranch as well and it really is a veteran-made family. Great story leading up to an HEA. I can’t say enough good things about this book.
The author writes in-depth characters. All her books are good reads. Pick this one up!
This book was so easy-to-read and full of strong wonderful characters!
Special Forces and a cowboy? Yes, please!
It’s wonderful that this series is about veterans, their very real life problems and the strength that some have in them to survive.
Great characters dealing with something that doesn’t register with most of us unless we come from military families. PTSD is handled with care and respect in all the related stories by this author and she delivers a heartfelt story each and every time!
This was a wonderful story. The author provided so much information about members of our military who had to leave the service due to injuries and resulting PTSD and their torturous efforts to lead a normal life, which in some cases is very difficult. This was the story of Kira Duval and
Weapons Sgt. Garret Fleming of Special Forces. They were the only 2 survivors of an ambush. They were badly injured and separated and sent to different hospitals. Kira tried to find Garret after her release from the hospital, but was unable to do so. Her efforts to hold down numerous jobs was literally a nightmare. Finally she was offered a job at the Bar C Ranch in Wind River, Wyoming. There she is reunited with Garret. They end up sharing a house on the ranch for veterans. Garret helps Kira with her PTSD. The story is heart wrenching and they end up with their Happy Ever After ending after quite a struggle. Magnificent story. I highly recommend it to all readers.
