Boston Globe BestsellerA true story of acceptance, perseverance, and the possibility of love and redemption as evocative, charming, and powerful as the New York Times bestseller Following Atticus.Drawn by an online post, Tom Ryan adopted Will, a frightened, deaf, and mostly blind elderly dog, and brought him home to live with him and Atticus. The only owners Will ever knew had grown too fragile … The only owners Will ever knew had grown too fragile to take care of themselves, or of him. Ultimately, Will was left at a kill shelter in New Jersey.
Tom hoped to give Will a place to die with dignity, amid the rustic beauty of the White Mountains of his New Hampshire home. But when Will bites him numerous times and acts out in violent displays, Tom realizes he is in for a challenge.
With endless patience and the kind of continued empathy Tom has nurtured in his relationship with Atticus, Will eventually begins to thrive. Soon, the angry, hurt, depressed, and near-death oldster has transformed into a happy, gamboling companion with a puppy-like zest for discovery. Will perseveres for two and a half years, inspiring hundreds of thousands of Tom and Atticus’s fans with his courage, resilience, and unforgettable heart.

I bought this book because my dearest retired friends just rescued a ten year old little dog who is blind and deaf. Like Will, he is choosing to love his new world. This author gives you a totally new way of being a dog owner. He doesn’t see much difference between humans and animals and gives all creatures the same dignity he gives people. He lets his two little dogs decide how they want to react to a situation and then helps them achieve that goal if they can’t do it themselves. He loves nature and shares everything with his dogs, Will and Atticus. This is a beautiful true story and I can’t imagine anyone not liking it.
I LOVED IT!!! I felt like i was there on every page. I’ve never been so invested in the characters as I was in this book. I read it twice back to back. Must read for all animal lovers.
Loved it – missed them after I finished

Beautifully written!
Just finishing this book. I loved it. Thought provoking. Really cared about the characters.
This deeply personal experience the author shares brings up the question, what is love all about? Why give so much of ourselves to another? It’s worth reading this story to experience the author’s heart felt search for the answer. The story also affirmed my own experiences with love. I thank Mr. Ryan for being brave enough to share his experience. I won’t ever forget this book. Thank you Mr. Ryan.
Loved it
Feel good book. Highly recommended
I enjoyed the way he took in the surroundings like the mountains, streams and forest. Will and Atticus-2 very Special Dog’s. Will came in his later years angry and non trusting and Will transformed into a mild mannered trusting soul.
This was a beautiful book about a guy and a couple dogs and how they decided to live their lives.
If you love dogs as much as I do, don’t miss out on this book. The love and care the author gives his amazing and special dogs is inspirational. His books will make you laugh and cry and want to hug your own pups over and over …. or if you haven’t got a dog, you might find you now want to adopt one from a shelter. Every dog I’ve ever had has been a stray, dumped out by my house or came from the shelter. Every one of them forever holds a special place in my heart, as do Will and Atticus, the wonderful dogs in this book.
Don’t miss out on their stories.
Lessons for life.
It’s full of wisdom, nature, quirky animal characters and humane, loving human characters. Makes you reconsider your relationships with your dogs
