Will Rise From Ashes is a departure from the author’s previous two books–and it is a winner! One of those books that I couldn’t wait to turn the page. Many twists and turns, with the story line going in unexpected directions. A definite “must read.”
This is a wonderful story. The writing is terrific and it has a nice plot. Not a blood and gore story like so many of the others. I highly recommend it to everyone who just loves reading an entertaining book. I also love the good ending.
A massive volcanic eruption in Yellowstone National Park. A child lost in the chaos. A mother on a desperate drive across country to find him. If this isn’t enough to get you reading, Jean Grant’s writing will draw you in. Once started, I had difficulty putting this book down. Ms. Grant weaves a great tale of catastrophe upon catastrophe, but through it all, she dangles a message of hope.
AJ Sinclair is a flawed heroine has been dealing with anxiety after her husband dies in a car accident a year earlier. When the volcano erupts, one of her two sons is with her brother across the country. With airplanes grounded and most phone service sketchy he packs up her autistic son, Will, and heads out to find her son, Finn, and her brother. Along the way, she meets a mysterious hitchhiker, Reid. A slow-burning relationship develops between them.
I’ve recommended this book to several people now, and I hope more people discover this gem of a book. Five plus stars!
I enjoyed Will Rise From Ashes and found it to be such a realistic read given the state of our world lately. Even still, it was a nice escape into the world of AJ Sinclair, the main character and her autistic son, Will. The characters were richly depicted and the setting almost became a haunting character on its own.
This book is emotional and also uplifting at the same time.
Womens fiction isn’t normally my go to read but this book was so inspiring that I couldnt stop once I started.
The writing and the characters were written very well and I could relate somewhat to the mother.
If you like stories about surviving, and parenting hardships I would give this a read
AJ is a recently widowed woman trying to put her life back together when a super volcano erupts in Yellowstone. Her brother and youngest son are in Yellowstone and she’s unable to determine if they are safe or not. She grabs her autistic son, Will, and makes the journey from Maine to find her loved ones. They meet and team up with Reid, who’s looking for his sister in the aftermath of this horrific natural disaster. As they slowly make the journey together, battling each challenge that comes their way, AJ, Will and Reid discover the true meaning of life and love.
Wow, this is such a heart wrenching story dealing with overcoming odds to save your family and embrace the moments that make life worth living. AJ is the perfect symbol of all mothers everywhere. Even though she’s an emotional wreck on the inside, she summons her strength to protect her autistic son from the horrors of a natural disaster. What made this such a fantastic read was the descriptive narration of the chaos which plagues every disaster. People fleeing, full of fear and the hope that one’s loved ones are alive. Beautifully described and kept me riveted.
If you’re looking for a story embracing the resiliency of the human spirit in the midst of tragedy, you’ll love Will Rise from Ashes. A must read!

My Rating: 5 stars
Author Jean M. Grant presents a moving story of a mother’s concern for missing family members in the wake of a natural disaster.
A.J, her two sons, and brother are forced to separate as they prepare to fly home from vacationing in Yellowstone National Park. She and her 9-year-old autistic son fly home early, expecting the other two to follow on a later flight.
However, upon reaching home, which is in Maine, she hears devastating news that a supervolcano has erupted. She has been trying to cope ever since her husband was killed in a driving accident, and this news immediately adds to her anxiety. She can’t lose anyone else, and her brother isn’t answering his cell phone. She makes a snap decision to drive to Denver where she is sure her brother and youngest son are.
It is obvious that being without her husband, and also raising two young children has taken its toll on her, since the last year she has suffered from depression and anxiety. However, at the time this decision was made, she would not have known how beneficial to her healing the trip would end up being.
My Concerns
In all of the chaos how in the world does AJ think she will find her brother? And if by chance things open up and he is able to catch a bus or plane home, where does that leave her? Searching? And by her quick reaction to go find her brother and son, she ends up causing extra work for first responders trying to help those with immediate needs.
I was also concerned about AJ’s attitude toward her new friend who was giving his all to help her along the trip. I know she is having trouble trusting others, but being kind is never out of order.
My Conclusion
The writing was good and I would say the “good“ far outweighed my concerns, so by all means give it a try. And, who know, perhaps my concerns were a bit too serious and analytical?
I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Jean M. Grant. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
Aj and her Son Will set on a road trip to see if she can find her brother and son that she didn’t hear from since some volcano exploded. She out of her comfort zone by driving other side of country. On her trip she meet Reid that looking for his sister . Will Aj be able to trust Reid and his he the one that will be able to help her finish her mission…this is a emotional book .. I couldn’t put it down .. hurry and get this book.
This was a very interesting book. Definitely different in what i normally read. But i get it. Your a mom and one of your kids is missing after a natural disaster. You do whatever needs to be done to get them back. AJ is out of her comfort zone but pushes through. She packs up her car, her son and are off. She has an idea from where they were last and that is where she will start. AJ has been lost and this story brings her back. Loved this story.
This story was heartwrenching, but it was a testament to how strong of a woman AJ is. All the challenges that she and Will went through during a national disaster were trying, but AJ was determined to get where she needed to be. They both had mental and physical issues to battle and overcome. You get to see both the best and worst in people and what tragedy can drive someone to do. Reid was a light at the end of a dark and depressing tunnel, and his story gutted me as well. I loved getting to see the world through Will’s eyes.
A well written novel of endurance and perseverance. In the wake of a a disaster. AJ and Reid set out to find their loves ones amidst chaos. They find solace and companionship within each other and try to overcome the obstacles they face. I enjoyed the character development in this book and Iove how the face challenges while finding each other. A great story.
Having already experienced loss, AJ can’t take any more. Headed across country with her son, AJ meets Reid and finds a chance at love among great devastation. A well thought out story with complex characters this read was both different and awesome.
I will be honest, this book was really hard to get into at the beginning and I had to leave it for a few days and come back but once I started to get deeper into it I could not put it down. This book had my emotions on a roller coaster ride and trust me I did not want to come off. This book is very relatable and the main characters are wonderful. Great book and highly recommended.
AJ Sinclair lost her husband last year so when the trip they were planning to Yellowstone came up her brother agreed to go with AJ and her sons. When they have to separate a super volcano erupts and her brother and youngest son are missing so she decides to drive cross country with her other son to find them. She faces a lot of problems but she is determined so when she meets Reid a hitchhiker looking for his sister she doesn’t trust him but having an adult helps a little. This story is one of determination and survival and you have to admire her guts.
This was such a good book. I enjoyed how much I felt for the characters at every turn. It’s very good when you can relate to the characters like I did in this book. Mama bears are fierce!
I really enjoyed this Story of a very strong woman dealing with very difficult stuff that keeps happening in her life. This was a Great story with some Great characters. I would definitely recommend this book.
Will Rise From Ashes by Jean M. Grant is the first book I have read from this author. This book is a mom’s emotional journey during an apocalyptic time and what she goes through to find her autistic son. A mother’s love for her child will endure what ever she has to for her child. This book will pull at your heartstrings. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author.
An emotional story as a widowed mother, AJ Sinclair is frantically searching for her youngest son and her brother.
With constant switching from AJ to her son Will, telling the story and also going back and forth from present day to reminiscing about her past, made it slightly difficult to follow along.
So unfortunately I did not get past chapter 4.
A haunting story that shows how far a mother will go to be with her child and how healing can take place even during the most dire of circumstances. At first the story line is slightly difficult to follow, told by AJ and switching to Will then back, and told in present and past tense, once the reader adjusts to the changes of who is telling the story and when it’s taking place, the story becomes easy to get immersed in and hard to put down. Overall it was nice book to read over a rainy weekend while snuggled under a warm blanket.
Ms. Grant has done it again! A widow travels across the country to find her son and brother after a catastrophic natural disaster occurs. She must travel with her other autistic son and faces many challenges along the way. When she meets a stranger, the way she views herself, her sons, her challenges and her life begin to change, but is he the man she thinks he is?
Full of twists and turns, Will Rise from Ashes, will have you second-guessing everything until the very end. In fact, leave yourself a free weekend because you won’t want to put down this gripping adventure. Ms. Grant has done her research on autism, anxiety disorders, grief, and a mother’s determination. Yet, she also excellently takes you on the journey with her main characters to self-discovery as well. As I listened to the audio version of this story I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the extraordinary performances of the narrators. Excellent job on turning Ms. Grant’s fantastic characters into live speaking people.
