Hilarious and informative!
Will My Cat Eat My Eyeballs? by Caitlin Doughty is a funny book all about death. It is very informative about a sensitive subject matter but she presents it with humor and in a manner the reader is not likely to forget. The questions are from kids (although I am sure adults have thought of these questions too). I love to watch her on YouTube and didn’t realize she was the author until I started reading the book! Great book! Going in favorite folder!
Morbidly fantastic. There are questions about death I never knew I needed answered. That’s the beauty of this enlightening book. Topics include displaying people’s skulls, dying on a plane, and donating blood after death. I also love how these are honest questions posed by kids—who are consistently curious.
A strange and wonderful book about death that is both candid and humorous.
Caitlin is back answering questions that kids have asked about death and funerals. Caitlin receives dozens of questions daily about death and decided to composite the most asked and blends her knowledge as an experienced mortician and known history to answer those questions. Quesions like: does our hair and nails continue to grow? What happens to astronauts if they die in space? Do people poop when they die? Can I have a Viking funeral. She brings humor and science together and gets to the bottom of these pressing questions that even adults have.
Another excellent book by this author. Caitlin is candid and knowledgable and it shows. She does a terrific job explaining a lot of questions that kids (and let’s face it – adults) have about death and what happens to bodies. She takes her vast knowledge and forms it into understandable answers full of history and science. You will find yourself smiling and laughing at some of the myths that she uncovers based on the questions she gets. I learned a lot from all of her books, but feel that this was a good book to help answer some of those questions kids have.
Check out her series. I hope she doesn’t stop writing. She is extremely talented and smart and I am glad I have found her books.
I loved this book! It’s hilarious, eccentric, and by-far the most fascinating book I’ve read this year.

If there is such a thing as a delightful book about dead bodies, then this is it! Doughty, a California mortician explores all sorts of fascinating questions about death. Her answers are informative and interesting and her light hearted tone and touches of humor make this a truly enjoyable read. She narrates the audiobook herself and many of her hilarious explanations had me laughing out loud…about corpses. Doughty does not shy away from gory details, so squeamish readers may want to steer clear.
Some of the questions she explores include:
What happens to an astronaut who dies in space?
Can my pet be buried with me when I die?
Do bodies poop after death?
Why was my grandmother wrapped in plastic for her viewing?
What if my family wants to save my skull?
And so many more. This book is not for the faint of heart, but it is an, educational and strangely entertaining look at the many things that happen to our bodies after we die.
Bonus pick: Doughty’s memoir, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, is a fascinating look at how the American depth industry works. Pick this up if you haven’t yet had your fill of death details.
It was a good book not amazing but very good. The author is quite funny and makes questions about dead people funny, intriguing and interesting.
It shouldn’t surprise anyone that I was a morbid and somewhat death-obsessed child. I asked a ton of questions–and I would have loved this book to answer some of them! Caitlin Doughty, mortician and death researcher, compiled some of the best questions that kids have asked her, like: What happens when you die in space? Do you poop when you die? Will my cat eat my eyeballs? Her answers are funny, honest, and informative. I’ve been listening to it on audio (she reads it) and enjoying this book a great deal. If you know a kid (or an adult) that has an interest in death and a curious mind, check this book out!
This book is geared toward kids (and I did actually buy it for my son) but I wanted to read it for myself. It answers some of those strange and unusual questions that only kids would think to ask. The answers were delivered with clarity and humor. The author does a wonderful job with the subject matter and makes the thought of death and dead bodies less daunting. I highly recommend this for anyone curious about what will happen to us all.
Caitlin Dougherty provides us with information compassion and humour concerning questions of deathAs a funeral director she explains the best questions come from children Such as Can Grandma have a Viking funeral etc At some time we will need to plan a loved ones funeral and even our own I can think of no one better than to consult on this matter than Caitlin Dougherty
This book was great! It contains a great group of questions from kids about death. Caitlin sense of humor and approach to these questions takes the fear and mystery away from death and makes it a fun learning experience, for all ages. I also loved the artwork that went with each question.
I really suggest reading Caitlin’s other books or her YouTube because she has a unique and wonderful way of teaching about death.
Educational, entertaining, fascinating, witty.
One of my favorite books of 2019. Oh my! These little bundle of joys gave Caitlin something to write about that’s quite clear. Reading this book made me think about how as adults we miss the creativeness gift we once had as children. The questions are definitely thought-provoking, interesting, and thoroughly sourced. The list of sources at the end of the book is surprisingly interesting. The illustrations are gorgeous, matching every question and yes the question to the books title is answered in the beginning. The format of the novel with the illustrations flows easily, and in my opinion should be in every school or at least every library.
I think this book is for everyone because eventually we all die and need to learn how to accept the complications with it. Death’s one of the most stressful aspects of life and Caitlin’s novel helps ease every aspect by providing education, sympathy, and humor to the grief process.
The pin of Caitlin is completely precious, I’m so proud to be a Deathling!
