Marie Lu is one my all-time favorite YA authors. After inhaling her previous series’, I was excited to read the followup to Warcross. Wildcard is exceptional as a followup because it gives me, the reader, exactly what I was seeking to complete Emika and Hideo’s story. I know I might be in the minority on that, but I have a healthy respect for the vision that writers have for their books, being a writer myself. Sometimes that vision doesn’t happen the way a reader wants it to, but as long as a writer has given a story their all and remained truthful to the story as it played out in their vision, I’m happy. I get that readers become vested and there are expectations in the set up of all genres. As long as a writer hit all the beats of the genre, there should be no reader disappointment that the story didn’t pan out the way they expected. Part of the journey I love in stories is not getting what I expect sometimes, because that lets me know that a writer is making the effort to provide me as the reader with something extraordinary. Marie Lu does this with all her books and she did it with Wildcard. There is nothing more I could have asked for.
I really loved this book it is the second book in the Warcross series and its just a real page-turner I still can’t stop reading it! I think everyone should read it!
A fantastic conclusion to a duology that is fast and fun and moving in unexpected ways. I absolutely loved Emika’s voice, the honesty of her relationship with Hideo, and perhaps more than anything, the complicated and heart-wrenching truths of what it means to be human and to lose something irreplaceable. While Warcross was like a shot of adrenaline, fast and fun and wildly compelling, this book was something deeper. Marie Lu is one of those rare writers who packs a serious punch without trying too hard, and who can leave a lasting impression long after the last page.
All the twists in this book!!! It was so good. I cannot believe I waited so long to finish this duology. I loved reading about Emika again. She is such a great character. I recommend this.
While Wildcard didn’t have the same page-turner appeal as the first book in this duology, it was fun to read and see the characters grow. Marie Lu has created an original, lushly built world with unpredictable characters. The action-packed sequences add to the plot, but I have to admit, my favorite parts were the moments when the main character grew through reflection.

Wildcard is a satisfying sequel to Warcross, with all the characters we’ve come to love. I enjoyed it and didn’t want it to end!
Great follow up
This is a great conclusion to the story that Marie Lu started in Warcross. She took the story to places I did not expect, and delivered a satisfying ending.
Nice ending to the duology. Some twists and turns, which keeps you on your toes. A bit preachy at the end, but solid.
an action-packed sequel to warcross.
