Wild, Wild Rake, the next sweeping, emotional, witty, and sharp romance in the Cavensham Heiresses series from beloved author Janna MacGregor. Her first marriage was an epic fail. Lady Avalon Warwyk never did love her husband. Arrogant, selfish, and cruel, it’s a blessing when she’s widowed and left to raise her son all by herself. Finally, Avalon can live freely and do the work she loves: … can live freely and do the work she loves: helping fallen women become businesswomen. She’s lived these past ten years with no desire to remarry–that is, until Mr. Devan Farris comes to town.
Can he convince her to take another chance at happily ever after?
Devan Farris–charming vicar, reputed rake, and the brother of Avalon’s son’s guardian–is reluctantly sent to town to keep tabs on Avalon and her son. Devan wishes he didn’t have to meddle in her affairs; he’s not one to trod on a woman’s independent nature and keen sense of convictions. But she’ll have nothing to do with a vicar with a wild reputation–even though he’s never given his heart and body to another. If only he could find a way to show Avalon who he really is on the inside–a good, true soul looking for its other half. But how can prove that he wants to love and care for her. . .until death do they part?

I really enjoyed Avalon and Devon’s story. The story captured my interest from the start and would not let go until the last page. Knowing in the end, there will be a HEA is one thing. Going through the journey to get there is a treat and worth staying up all night to get there. Janna MacGregor certainly has a way with words. I am looking forward to the next installment.
This book is out Feb 25. Do yourself a favor and get it!
Janna MacGregor’s Wild, Wild Rake is the 6th book of The Cavensham Heiresses series. It is an emotional story full of tart dialogue between Lady Avalon Warwyk and Devan Farris, a charming vicar and a reputed rake. Not only does he swoon the ladies of his parish with his charms, but he has swooned this reader as well.
Avalon has never loved her arrogant and cruel husband, and it is a blessing when she becomes widowed and left to raise her son. She has no desire to remarry—that is until Devan Farris comes to town as the new vicar, but she’s no fool and knows her son’s guardian has sent Devan to spy on her. Poor Devan, he doesn’t wish to meddle in her affairs and her independence.
Janna MacGregor creates a tale of love blossoming between Avalon and Devan after all they have been through. In previous books, Devan is portrayed as a wild rake when he is really a man of integrity and honor. He has a secret that he would only share with a wife. Avalon in Rogue Most Wanted is portrayed as a greedy social climber who jilted William, but in Wild, Wild Rake, the truth behind the reason she jilted William and married Marquess of Warwyk instead is revealed. Devan and Avalon are perfect for one another because he challenges her, and she unsettles him to which creates a harmony between the two characters. Where there is romance in the air, there is a bit a danger as well. 5 stars for Janna MacGregor’s Wild, Wild Rake. I received this ARC from Author’s Umbrella in exchange for my honest review.
Wild, Wild Rake is a wonderfully written, thoroughly entertaining story about overcoming a past filled with abuse and betrayal to find a happiness like no other. Although this is the sixth in the series, it can definitely be read as a stand alone story. Lady Avalon Warwyk was forced to marry a man who despised her very existence and give up the man she thought was her true love. She was constantly berated and forced to live away from London so that her husband could live with his true love, his mistress. Now a widow, she is determined to help those in abusive situations and to protect her young son from learning the truth about his father. Devan Farris has the reputation of being a rake and naughty vicar but only he knows that none of this is true, he is saving himself for marriage. He is sent by his brother, Lord Warwyk’s guardian, to spy on Avalon in regards to her spending habits. The two have always had a contentious relationship, but soon contention turns to passion. The story that follows is filled with a plethora of emotions and secrets revealed that make it a wonderful story.
I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher but all thoughts and feelings are my own.
I absolutely loved this sweet and sensuous love story!
Devan and Avalon start off on opposite sides, as he can’t forgive her for breaking his friend’s heart and she won’t forgive his association with her dreadful husband. Years later, however, these two have significantly matured yet are still cautious about the other as they’re thrown together by his brother, who is her son’s guardian.
One remarkable thing about this story is that even the worst of the antagonists are shown to be just as victimized by circumstances as those who they persecute. It’s a talented author that can make you hate and love the same characters at the same time, based entirely on seeing those people through the eyes of the different relationships they have. Both Richard and Penelope could have been written as simple selfish characters, but instead we’re given all sides of their lives so we can sympathize with their choices even while we hate their actions. Likewise, the friendship between Avalon and Mary should have been surprising, given their connection, yet it seemed natural and even empowering that they would make the best of a situation neither had chosen.
The romance between Avalon and Devan is enchanting throughout the book. There’s a strong current connecting them even when they’re at cross purposes. Watching them gradually lower their walls and learn to trust each other was heartwarming and captivating. All the books in this Cavensham series are outstanding, but this one is my favorite of all. From the heartbreaking beginning to the charming HEA, it’s absolute perfection on every page. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I did enjoy this book, storyline was very good.
Avalon is a widow, she never loved her husband, who wasn’t very good to her. Now, she wants to help other woman..
Devan is a vicar, sent to watch what Avalon is doing, but somewhere along the lines, he become enchanted with her.
Avalon was married to a man who despised her because he was in love with his mistress who was pregnant at the same time Avalon was. Devan who took on the vocation of vicar didn’t care for Avalon because she was supposed to be married to his friend. When Devan witnesses Avalon being cruelly treated he feels some compassion. Several years later, widowed Avalon has set up a sanctuary for soiled doves and their children. When Devan is relocated to her parish she tries to get him to leave. He is relentless and breaks down her barriers and finds out how wrong he was about her. The evolution of their relationship is beautiful. I loved it. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Wild Wild Rake was brilliantly written story about kindness, trust issues and discovering of falling in love. I was smitten with both characters from the very beginning, I could honestly well understand Avalon’s trust issues after what she went through and her wanting to beeing able to make her own decisions.
And the fact that Devon would with such ease charm his way into her heart was refreshing. I loved Avalon’s wit, courage and kindness just as much as Devon’s persistence and devotion to his parishioners.
It was one truly amazing story.
This is truly a love story of two people who discovered their judgment of the other was very wrong when they got to know each other. I really enjoyed how Janna wove this story together showing how they changed their minds about each other. Avalon’s journey to trust was a hard one for her given the great hurt she’d experienced at the hands of her parents and former husband. Devon also discovers that he’s not just a charming wastrel but someone who can bring comfort to hurting hearts.
Lady Avalon Cravensham Warwyck was forced by her parents to marry the Marquis of Warwyck, Richard Pearce at eighteen. It was a marriage neither wanted as Richard was planning on marrying his mistress, Mary Bolen. Avalon’s father won a piece of land Richard wanted and in order to get it back he had to marry Avalon. He treated her horribly and cast her out of the house after impregnating her with his heir. Then he dies after two years of marriage, setting up his best friend Gavin Faris, the Earl of Larkton to be his son’s guardian & overseer of the Marcasite. Gavin sends his younger brother Devon to spy on Avalon because he thinks she’s using the estate’s money to feather her purse. He sends his brother to tutor her son, Thane, and get a look at her books as well as maneuvering Devon to be the Vicar of the local parish.
Devon Faris is a vicar who wanted to be a military man. His brother refused to pay for his commission fearing losing a beloved brother to war. Devon doesn’t realize it but he’s very good at counseling and comforting his parishioners. He soon comes to see Avalon has a huge heart for the people in the town. She set up a charity that helps woman who want to get out of selling their bodies to live. She has set up housing and businesses for these women so they can be safe and feed & raise their children. Devon is amazed at all she has accomplished with her self funded charity. As they spend time together she comes to realize he’s not so much of a rake that his reputation purports. She on the other hand has a huge heart for helping others get back on their feet and a very giving heart.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Janna has written another great book. This unlikely hero and feisty strong heroine make for a wonderful story. Everyone needs to pick up a copy.
Two caring and giving characters! A vicar hero who actually has religious bents! Devan filled his role as vicar supporting his parish while wooing Avalon, the widowed heroine. Avalon took her negative experiences to reach out to other women in distressful situations. I enjoyed this story as Avalon and Devan found their happily ever after. Janna MacGregor is a wonderful writer!
I received an advanced reader copy but these opinions are my own and voluntarily given.
“Wild, Wild Rake” The Cavensham Heiresses by Janna MacGregor
WoW, what a wild read. I loved this story… I could not put it down. This story is full of emotions that will have you in tears and maybe even a chuckle or two, too. I received an ARC of the story from the publisher via NetGalley with the request for an honest review. I do love strong characters with convictions and fortitude. I think you will appreciate the story these characters with the author’s help have created. Happy Reading ! !
You had me at “naughty vicar”:) This was such a great story which I enjoyed immensely! I absolutely adored Devan, his sense of honour, his sense of humour, his dedication and oh yes, how insanely handsome he is and is a virgin!!!! Avalon’s character was a bit harder to like but once you know her story, then you realize why she’s the way she is….no matter, though, she’s a warm and caring woman underneath the persona she shows Devan.
I had so many favourite parts in the story and really loved the part when they’re speaking about his “member” (the night they’re locked in the wine cellar) and he tells her to just ignore it, how it has a mind of its own and just wants attention! lol
I loved the story, I loved the plot, I loved the characters, I loved everything about this book and would definitely recommend it. I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I received an ARC of Wild Wild Rake from Netgalley. Janna MacGregor never fails to amaze me with her sensual and witty romances. I believe this may be my favorite book of hers yet. She gets better and better with each new book.
Devan Faris, the handsome and charming vicar, and
Avalon Warwyk, the widowed marchioness are brought together by being in the same parish/township. She has created a shelter and refuge for women wanting to leave prostitution or those who are pregnant and unmarried. He has been sent by her child’s guardian, who also happens to be Devan’s older brother to ensure all monies are accounted for and not being misspent from the marquis’ funds.
The bickering and conversations between them is witty, and later heartfelt and romantic. Their animosity has grown into tolerance and affection, but Avalon still has doubts about Devan because of her first marriage to a cruel man whom she could not trust and who couldn’t be faithful to her. A story of faith and belief. A must read!
Wild, Wild Rake is the 6th installment of The Cavensham Heiress series. Each book is a stand alone and can be read in any particular order.
Lady Avalon Warwyk was sold into marriage by her parents and for this reason she and her late husband despised each other. James Warwyk was selfish, cruel, and a cheater. It was a blessing that it took one bedding to get her pregnant and luck that he died of a fever that left her a widow. She could raise her son all by herself and live her life to do the work that she loves: helping “fallen” women become profitable businesswomen. Avalon has no interest in remarrying, she will not be controlled by a man! Then Mr. Devan Farris comes to her village as the new Vicar…
Devan Farris has known Avalon for years, he loves to tease her and call her Lady Warlock. Devan is known as a charming rake and is the brother of Avalon’s son’s guardian. Devan was sent to the village to spy on Avalon and her son and he’s rather reluctant to meddle in her business or interfere with Avalon’s independent nature. But she wants nothing to do with the Vicar, she knows why he’s been sent.
Upon being locked in the cellar together. Secrets emerge and Devan only wants to show Avalon that he’s never given his heart or body away to another, he wants her to see who he really is on the inside. Can he prove to her that he wants her until death do them part and that he truly is her other half?
Wild, Wild Rake is the sixth book in The Cavensham Heiresses series. This book grabbed my attention and kept it until the end of the book. I loved all the characters in the book, Devan was such a sweet hero and the banter between Avalon and Devan added wonderful humor.
The widowed Marchioness of Warwyck, Lady Avalon, had been forced to marry Richard, the Marquess of Warwyk. Once Avalon was widowed she wasn’t interested in marriage again, all she wanted was to focus on raising her son and her helping fallen women.
Devan Farris was the younger brother of the Earl of Larkton, Avalon’s son’s guardian. Larkton had arranged for Devan to become the new vicar in Thistledown. He wanted Devan to tutor Avalon’s son, Thane, and prepare him for Eton. Also, he wanted Devan to find out how Avalon was funding her charities.
Devan’s respect for Avalon grew as he saw the love and care she provided the town residents. When a false allegation is made against Devan, the only way to save it was marriage between the two.
Loved the story. It is well written, entertaining and holds your attention. The story is so well written that the book comes alive in your imagination. The scenes are so graphic that it is easy to envision the story unfolding before your eyes. Avalon was forced, by her parents, into a marriage with a man who did not want her. Now widowed another man comes into her life but she finds it had to trust again. Devan, the new vicar, comes to see Avalon as a woman he could love but sees himself below her in station, even though both of their fathers were Earls. There is a HEA but a lot happens first which adds to the quality of the story. I would highly recommend this book as a great read.
This is book 6 in Janna MacGregors Cavensham heiresses series. I have waited for this one and it did not disappoint. Lady Avalon Warwyk is a widowed young woman raising her son in the Warwyk country estate. Having weathered her marriage to a cruel, selfish man, his untimely death was a relief to her. It meant freedom to do raise her son and be content with her work. Enter Devan Farris, brother to her sons guardian, sent to spy on Avalon as the new Vicar, a breathtaking Vicar at that. For years they have harbored animosity to one another for mistaken or misunderstood reasons. As they begin to know each other, their feelings and trust grow. This a wonderful story of learning to trust and opening your heart to love again. The characters were alive in my mind and very well developed. I loved Avalon’s kindness and spunk. And, Devan…what’s not to love about a hunky, caring, and kind Vicar! I can’t wait to see what Ms. MacGregor has for us next. This delicious romance had me captivated from page 1 to the last.
This is the first of Janna MacGregor’s books I’ve completely read. I found an earlier work disappointing and did not finish it, so I was more so pleased and delighted by this book. The writing and dialog are very good so I totally enjoyed reading this.
I found the story to be out of the ordinary in this genre. The story takes place in a small town in the country, where moral strictures were more closely watched. Guardians could easily take a child away from its mother, especially an heir, so I was anxious how this story would evolve.
I voluntarily read an advanced copy I received via NetGalley. The thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
A widow, Lady Avalon Warwyk aka Warlock, has managed her life and her work for the village on her own. When the younger brother of her son’s guardian turns up as the new vicar, Avalon knows he’s really a spy for his brother. Their conceptions of each other will change, but not before going through some compromising situations. Devan definitely has his work cut out for him. If anyone can charm and calm a lady, it’s Devan Farris. I absolutely adore Devan, even if he is a vicar known as a rake, or is he? Another fabulous read in the Cavendish heiress series!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

My review :
When a lady’s heart reawakens in presence of a rakish vicar, can they hope for more than attraction…
I preordered this book immediately when it was proposed, even if I had reservations about Avalon, after all she was “portrayed as one of the villain” in Rogue Most wanted.
So it is there that resides Mrs Janna MacGregor’s talent, her characters are one sided ones, they are multi faced, and they are far more complex than what they appear to be.
In the previous book, she was called a greedy social climber, yet the end of it, presented in a different light, still I wondered if I would be able to like her.
And now, pffffff ….
What a rollercoaster ride of the sentiments it was, if I hadn’t worked today, I would have read it in one setting. While I do remember how I was upset at Avalon when she “jilted” William, and now I know how wrong I was, I forgot the mask people shows is not always who they are. The first chapter sets the pace and defines the future Avalon.
At first, I was unsure about Devan, he too misjudged Avalon on the hearsay, and in between hurt her too.
When they meet again, he provokes her at every turn, he angers her, yet in doing so, it brings sparkles back in her eyes.
In fact, they are perfect for one another, he challenges her, she unsettles him.
When Avalon was a victim of her circumstances, she tried to better herself and uses her own experience to help others around. Devan is manipulated by his kin, but it is willingly he follows the road drawn in from of him.
Why he has a long way coming ahead of him to win her trust as very few persons did stand for her in the past, the scars are still lingering and she needs only a spark to fire her doubts.
I loved they did not throw barbs all along the book, in fact once they passed the first enmity, they realized there was goodness in each other.
Their story of more a tale of healing than one of hostility as Devan is the right cure for Avalon’s heart and soul.
So be prepared to be swept of your feet while following Devan and Avalon in their moving quest as they will have to face their fears and uncertainties.
I can only give 5 stars but it deserves more.
I was granted an advance copy by the author and publisher St Martin Paperback through Netgalley and prior to it preordered my own.
Here is my true and unbiased opinion.
