Once again, I dove into a new story of Devney’s and was completely enthralled from the very first page!!!
I absolutely adored this installment of The Runaway Series. I was really excited to hear Gemma’s story, and hear more about her. From the little her name was mentioned in the first book, I knew she was special. I was right. What a boss babe she is!!! From everything she had been through, she came out on top, but not without keeping her vulnerable side and softness to her. She remembered how to feel, and allowed herself to open back up to those feelings. In a way, this story had a great deal of a “finding yourself” vibe to it. Which I appreciated.
I absolutely wanted to punch Easton a few times for coming across as such a jerk. However, he quickly changed my mind and I warmed up to his character in no time flat.
I loved the setting of this book, and found myself wishing I was in Montana in a lodge soaking up the beautiful scenery. Every character played a part and fit in perfectly. I always leave a Devney book feeling like the characters are family, and this one is was no different. I adored every second of it!!!
This series is shaping up to be another favorite from Devney Perry for me. I’ve been eagerly awaiting this book since I read the first one and it was entirely worth the wait. Enemies to lovers with an emotional punch. Second chance romance that steals your breath. No matter how you describe Wild Highway it’s just not enough to encompass how awesome this book really is.
The magic of the Cadillac strikes again bringing love and healing this time to Gemma. Not only does she get the chance to make amends and heal a friendship from years ago but she gets thrust right back into the life of the man she left behind, Easton. When I say sparks were flying immediately with Gemma and Easton I mean literally the second they’re in each other’s presence. It’s clear neither of them ever really lost that pull that’s between them and no matter how much they fight or deny what exists between them is just too big to ignore.
A slowish burn, second chance/enemies to lovers story, I really enjoyed the emotional connection and the chemistry between the main characters. This series has a different feel to it compared to Devney Perry’s other series, I’m super interested to see what happens in the next book!
I don’t understand how every single Devney Perry book becomes my new favorite but… it happens every time.
Wild Highway is different than Runaway Road. It’s deeper, slightly more dramatic, and more tension filled.
I loved every second of it. Gemma is a heroine I can get behind. Wounded but strong. Soft but hardened. Loving but kinda broken. Admits her faults.
And oh Easton. No one writes Montana Cowboys like Devney Perry. Thank you for Easton. He’s not perfect. He’s surly. But when he falls… OH MAN DOES HE FALL.
Also the side characters, the family dynamics PURE GOLD. I can already see where Quarter Miles is going and I’m READY FOR IT.
Five BIG SKY stars for Wild Highway. I absolutely loved it!
OH my stars! I had tears. Legit. Everyone knows I do not cry as a rule and it takes a lot. Well, Devney Perry has been added to that list! This is such a raw emotional story of a woman trying to find her place again after she achieved what she wanted and thought it was enough for her. The story of these girls is heartbreaking, but Gemma is a force that cannot be stopped. Her going back to Montana to mend relationships really hits you in the feels. But with Easton, that man is a wall. He has so much balled up angry at Gemma. Watching things play out and how things implode was heart shattering. Their chemistry is sizzling off the charts but it is their emotional connection too. It is beyond intense.
I will say that this series is becoming a favorite of mine. Which is insane hard because Perry writes such stunning stories. There is just something about Wild Highway that will grasp your heartstrings, twist you up, have you in tears and so much more. I was blown away by this story. The fluidity, the character build, the chemistry. Absolutely everything. You need this book in your life!
Wild Highway is the kind of story I love! Alpha mail, second chance…yes please! Easton and Gemma have stolen my heart. I loved their chemistry. Devney Perry always manages to make me feel like I’m not just reading the story but experiencing it. I can’t wait to read Katherine’s story next. Five stars!!!
4.5 stars!
There is something about a Devney Perry book. You know you’re going to get a beautifully written story that will capture your heart and make you fall in mad love, and that’s exactly what I experienced with this one. The second book in the Runaway series is a gorgeous story of a lost woman finding her place in the world, and an amazing second chance romance that had me feeling all the feels.
Gemma was one of six runaways who found a home together in a Californian junk yard. She has come a long way since then, creating an empire and making her fortune. But she’s just sold it all and taken off for a solo roadtrip across the country in an attempt to wind down and find out where she truly belongs. She’s picking up the travels of her best friend, Londyn, with plans to drive her Cadillac back to California, but she detours to a ranch in Montana where she worked for a short time 11 years previously, with plans to catch up with another of her fellow runaways who still works there. And it puts her right into the path of somebody else from her past, Easton Greer.
“These spontaneous decisions of the past few weeks suddenly made sense. They had purpose. They had meaning. They were to get me here, in this moment.
I was setting out to right a wrong. To find myself again.”
Easton’s family owns the Greer Ranch, and he’s now the man in charge. He and Gemma have a history, and their time together ended badly. He is not happy to have her back, but she is welcomed with open arms by the rest of the family, he is not happy when she decides to stay for a while.
It’s such a great setup, with broody Easton doing his best to avoid Gemma, but teasing and baiting her whenever they are forced together. He doesn’t believe that she’s prepared to give up her wealthy, pampered lifestyle, and she’s determined to prove him wrong. And underneath it all, their wild attraction to each other simmers.
“What do you want from me, Easton?”
For you to get the hell out of my head.
Easton and Gemma have sizzling chemistry. Their attraction is undeniable, and all of that bickering soon unleashes their passion for each other. But they are determined to protect their hearts this time around, and they try to keep their feelings out of it. But that proves harder than they thought.
“He made me feel small—safe and protected. He made me feel free to be myself.
Easton made me feel. Period.
I wasn’t ready for him to go and take the feeling with him. Not yet. Not when I’d been numb for so long and with him here, I was alive.”
I loved these two together. It’s not a conventional romance, by any means, but the fact that they can’t keep away from each other says so much about the depth of their attraction and how much they still feel for each other. They slowly rediscover their friendship, and you can see how deeply they care, but Gemma is searching for something, and Easton refuses to stand in the way of her dreams.
“Would she ever see what was in front of her?
Everything she wanted, everything she needed, was right here. A home. A family.
Me.”
It’s beautiful watching it all unfold and I was sucked right into Gemma and Easton’s story. There were moments that broke my heart, that had me holding my breath in anticipation, or cheering in sheer joy and excitement as they eventually figured it all out.
I loved this story and I struggled to put it down, desperate to see how it was all going to turn out. There’s a nice set up there for Katherine’s book up next, and I can’t wait to continue on with this series.
4.5 stars.
Devney Perry gives readers another wonderful story in Wild Highway! I really loved Gemma! She is complex and broken from her past, trying to find herself in the world. She gives up her company to find herself. She agrees to take a road trip with her friend’s Londyn Cadillac from West Virginia to California. She decides to stop in Montana to re-connect with her friend Katherine who was part of Gemma’s childhood.
Not only does Gemma connect with Katherine but also Easton, who she had left as well 11 years prior in Montana. He has not forgotten her.
What I loved is how Gemma and Easton grow as individuals and together throughout the book. I love how open they are with each other and how broken Gemma is. How Easton figures out what he needs to do to give her the happily ever after. What a great ending to an incredible book!
In this second installment of the Runaway series, Gemma Lane has taken over the delivery of the restored Cadillac to California. She’s sold her multi-million dollar company and is looking for a new, fresh direction in her life. But the road takes her back to Montana where she left behind a friend and the man who might be someone important to her had she given him the chance.
Years ago, Gemma left her friend Katherine on the ranch in Montana where they had escaped after living in a junkyard in California. She also left behind Easton, one of the ranch owners and a man she’s never forgotten. In the present day, Katherine is in a good place and has forgiven Gemma, but it’s going to take Easton longer to warm up to Gemma. His heart was broken when she left the first time, and he’s not about to give her a second chance to slay him.
At first, Easton isn’t very nice to Gemma. He hasn’t forgiven her for walking out on him years ago and he’s convinced she’s not going to stay in Montana. A stupid bet is made that keeps Gemma in town and gradually Easton’s icy treatment melts. They find themselves right back where they were the first time. But Gemma isn’t convinced that she belongs on the ranch and that Easton wants her to stay. I have to admit, I thought Gemma had good reason to decide to leave a second time.
I really liked Wild Highway. It’s a shorter romance and I would have been happy for more! I loved the family ranch setting and it really was a perfect place for Gemma to find what she had been missing in her life. Gemma’s struggle to figure out what she wants to do with her life now that she wasn’t running a company was an interesting aspect of the story. Easton is a terrific character too — it’s clear his scars are deep when it comes to Gemma but when he figures it out, he’s all-in and beautiful. I adored the big scene near the end when he finally isn’t afraid to ask Gemma for what he really wants.
Wild Highway is a great addition to the series, and I’m looking forward to Katherine’s story, which had quite a bit of setup in this book. I really like the premise of this series and I’m eager for more.
An ARC was provided. This is my honest review.
Devney Perry has managed to write another perfect and swoon worthy romance. I simply love everything Devney writes. When I’m in a funk or feeling down, I can always count on Devney’s books to pull me out of those feelings and that’s exactly what Wild Highway did. I devoured this book in less than three hours and ended up wishing there was more! This book is a fast-paced, adorable, swoon worthy read and I couldn’t get enough of it. Wild Highway is a second chance romance, which happen to be my absolute favorite type of romances. I loved watching the two main characters reconnect and build a truly beautiful love. This book has Devney’s signature small town feel and I loved everything about it.
Gemma Lane built an empire from nothing. She worked her way up in the world through her intelligence, determination, and hard work. And she gave it all up. Even though she had all the money in the world, she wasn’t happy. She didn’t have a family to come home to every night. She really didn’t have a home to come home to. She felt so alone and numb in her posh lifestyle and she just wanted to feel alive again. She wanted to feel something. So, she sets out on the journey that Londyn began in Runaway Road. She is going to California to bring their lost friend the refurbished Cadillac and she’s hoping to find herself along the way. Her journey leads her to a ranch in Montana where she reconnects with her old friend and fellow runaway, Katherine and the entire Greer family. She rekindles her amazing friendship with Katherine and the Greer family. Gemma is such an amazing character. She’s strong, intelligent, kind, loving, fierce, stubborn, and so much more. She had a truly terrible childhood and was raised by a woman who could not handle raising a child nor was she equipped to do so. Gemma didn’t let that stop her from being someone. She took all of that negative and tried to turn it into something positive. She is truly an awe-inspiring character. Her strength and courage is truly amazing. Gemma also fears the unknown and her own feelings. She’s afraid that she’ll never truly find her place in the world or a family, a place to call home. She feels disposable and unworthy at times and it broke my heart. Gemma didn’t see her own worth and that she is worthy of love and a family of her own. She is a truly amazing character.
Easton Greer is all sorts of delicious, swoon worthy, and hot as sin wrapped up in a perfect rancher package. This man was something else. He’s fierce, stubborn, determined, intelligent, and sexy. He takes a gruff and rugged rancher to a whole new level and I am here for it! He’s also a very thoughtful and kind person once you get past the rough exterior. Easton has lived on his family ranch his entire life and loves every second of it. He went to college to earn a degree that would help him better manage and run the ranch when it was his time to take over. During the story, Easton runs the ranch, but his father and grandfather always give their input or make decisions that aren’t theirs to make. Easton struggles to deal with that. He wants to be able to run the ranch the way he sees fit, not the way it’s always been done. He struggles to talk to his family about it. He just wants a chance to prove to them all that he has what it takes to run a successful ranch. He truly is a wonderful character. I need more of Easton Greer.
Gemma and Easton together are FIRE! The chemistry between these two is amazing. Their banter is hilarious and full of sass. These two are seriously perfect for one another, even if it took them some time to see it. They had to get over what happened between them eleven years ago before they could truly be together in the present. I love that Gemma feels safe with Easton. She tells him things about her past, about her mother that she has never told anyone else. She feels like she can open up to him when she very rarely does that with anyone else. It’s hard to give people the power to be able to hurt you. Easton makes Gemma feel. He makes her feel everything and that’s something that she’s been missing and craving for years. I love that Easton doesn’t try to push Gemma to be something she’s not. He lets her be herself. He doesn’t push her to stay with him because he doesn’t want her to feel trapped or unhappy. All he wants is for her to find her happiness and the place she belongs. What Easton doesn’t realize is that Gemma wants him to ask her to stay. She wants to know that someone loves her enough and finds her worthy enough to ask her to stay. She wants to be someone’s first and only choice. She wants to be loved for exactly who she is, flaws and all. These two own my heart. I love everything about them and they deserve their happy ending. Gemma deserves her happy ending.
Overall, I rate this story a 5/5! I simply loved everything about Wild Highway. I loved this small town, second chance romance so much. Gemma and Easton are perfect for one another and I loved watching their love story unfold and grow into something so strong and beautiful. I’m truly loving the Runaway series and all of the feelings these stories create. I cannot wait for Katherine and Cash’s story next (I adored both of them in Wild Highway) and I look forward to the rest of this amazing series.
A Roadtrip That Ends With Forever Love!
I was Totally Smitten with this story! LOVED IT!
Gemma had a rough start at life. She went from a runaway living in a junkyard to millionaire. She just sold her company and she’s taking a road trip. Her first stop takes her to a best friend which leads her to her next journey. She’s ready to make amends and reunite with her junkyard family.
There’s no better way to figure life out then to hop in a convertible and hit the road. Gemma’s back to the place where she had her first real job. Greer Ranch and Mountain Resort holds fond memories and a long lost friend or two. She’s not sure of the reception she’ll receive because she was their working and then one day she just left eleven years ago. No goodbyes. And she left behind a good friend and the man she spent one night after crushing on him.
Now she’s a strong, independent, successful woman and she’s ready to make things right. The ranch is just what she needed. Now she has wide open space, friends that treat you like family and an angry cowboy that is going to make you work for his attention.
It wasn’t hard to gain forgiveness from her old friend, but Easton is not going to make her life easy. The second she showed up, he was ready for her to go. The one night they spent together has been a fond memory for years, but he doesn’t trust her to stick around. He knows her stay is only temporary because the one thing that Gemma always does is run away.
Sparks fly between these two. As much as Easton wants to hate her, she slowly wins him over. They bring the HEAT! There can never be a relationship because she is searching for a place to call home, but hiding their fling is becoming more difficult. Gemma struggles with what her heart wants and being too afraid to take it. One of them will have to take a risk if they want forever.
This second chance, enemies to lovers romance was a heart stealer. I fell hard for these characters. The author’s writing style is a favorite for me to read. She delivers beautiful characters with layers that you will look forward to peeling back. This series is a journey and each new character leads us somewhere new to fall in love all over again. I have really enjoyed the two books in this series and I cannot wait for the next.
This was an absolutely amazing second chance romance! Devney Perry has a wonderful way of inviting you into a story and making you a part of it. Right from the start, I was pulled back into this detailed world, learning about Gemma and her past. I loved meeting Easton and couldn’t get enough of the animosity between them as sparks flew.
Wild Highway by Devney Perry is the second book in her new series Runaway. Even though this is the second book it can very well be read as a standalone but I would not recommend it. Devney Perry wrote a wonderful story which drew me right in, making me forget everything else and did not let me go until I turned the last page. This was such an easy, fun, quick read. I didn’t want to put it down, in fact I read the whole book in one sitting. Then of course now I want more I need the rest of the stories. The story is very well written and keeps you engaged throughout. You feel as if you are living the story, and every time you think you know what is going to happen you are wrong. This is such a great start to an amazing series. I can’t wait to find out what Devney has in store for Gemma. As with all of Devney’s books I recommend this one highly. Run don’t walk to get this book in your hands you won’t be sorry.
I’m loving the idea of this series and especially Gemma’s story. All the runaway children involved had such a crappy start to life to it’s been to watch the two we’ve read so far turn their lives around and find their HEAs
Gemma and Easton have history; Easton has been holding a grudge for over eleven years at the way Gemma just upped and left. Filled with animosity over her departure Easton isn’t happy to see her return. With this in mind I would’ve liked to have seen their relationship develop at a slower pace rather than take an insta love format after a couple of cold shoulders. More developed on the romance and a definite opportunity for these characters to play hard to get!
The feelings between these two were always there so it was great to see Gemma find her place to call home. It was a great fun / cozy read that makes you feel that love is out there for everyone.
“I used to be fun. I used to be daring and reckless.”
Devney Perry wrote one of the most amazing heroines yet! I related to her so much… ok, so I’m not some billionaire, business woman turned gypsy in a hot, classic Cadillac… but I highlighted so many quotes that I bet there’s only a few dozen words left unhighlighted!
“I wanted to strangle him and kiss him and kick him and lick him all in the same moment.”
I really can’t even begin to tell you how often I thought that about my husband. I adore that man so much but he makes me so crazy… but the love is stronger than the crazy. Thankfully for him and thankfully for Easton.
“Would she ever see what was in front of her. Everything she wanted, everything she needed, was right here. A home. A family.
Me.”
Easton is a man with few words but his heart is a turbulent storm and it needs Gemma to ride the waves. I always love Perry’s couples. There are intense and strong feelings. If you’re a reader that has loved before, the words Mrs. Perry writes will remind you of those sharp and intense feelings that don’t let go.
Wild Highway was just amazing. I’m hoping more than anything that we get every single one of those junkyard tenants in a story… I want more than just a quick check in from another book. I want all their life stories. I’m hoping they all find a happily ever after. Quickly, I’ll touch on the perfect way Devney Perry tells a story. It never fails that within a few pages Perry has me wrapped around her keyboard. The writing is smooth and just so fluid that I forget I’m reading.Wild Highway has a bit of everything for any romance reader. Mostly, we get a sweet, second chance romance with some good old country boy tossed in and sprinkled with some light angst and drama. There’s a heave dose of friendship and loyalty and you won’t be able to miss those hot and steamy moments and some light, teasing glimpses from the up-and-coming book, Quarter Miles.
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.

Wild Highway is the second in the Runway series- a series with such unique central thread that it is worth checking out just for that alone. This series follows the lives of six children who ran away, living together in a California junk yard, forming their own family unit. Now adults, each are still connected but on different paths, still confront the baggage of their youth. Book 2 focuses on Gemma.
Gemma has just sold her multi-million dollar cosmetics business , surprising even herself with her brash move. She finds herself on a redemptive road trip, only the redemption she ends up seeking out is not what she expected when she left in a vintage car to go to California, and instead she finds herself in Montana confronting parts of her past, including people she hurt when she worked on a ranch in town 11 years ago, including a past lover, Easton Greer.
Their relationship ended poorly, so Easton is frustrated and moody over her presence. The others, however, are quick to forgive and embrace Gemma’s return, so much so that she decides to linger for a while to decompress. A love-hate attraction simmers between them.
Even behind his broody, cowboy persona, I was immediately drawn to Easton- he projects a stability, a familiarity. Gemma is so nuanced as a character- clearly flawed, working through layers of baggage, but underneath it all there is such a gentle strength, humility, and determination. She’s an interesting heroine-even if she’s confused about what she wants, even when she can’t see what is in front of her face. As Easton opens up to a friendship with Gemma, the chemistry really builds and the relationship deepens- and we are able to grapple with the core issue, these two awaken one another. And for Gemma, FEELING is scary, it is dangerous, it makes her want to run, like she always has.
The themes of home and identity are so beautifully articulated in this story. Gemma is confronting her own lostness- she was once homeless literally, and now she’s homeless metaphorically. She doesn’t fit- doesn’t belong- in part because she’s been so consumed about creating a life that she forgot to live it. She’s lost herself along the way, she’s lost her purpose- but the minute she ends up on the way to Montana, what appears to be reckless spontaneity turns out to be a gradual and cathartic homecoming- one she wasn’t even looking for, one that she finally has the strength to not run from. But it is what she’s been missing all long- home, stability, the comfort of family. Home isn’t about a place- it is about a feeling, a sense of self, a belonging. Not only is this her second chance with Easton, but her second chance at finding her fit, her home. AND THAT ENDING Y’ALL- EPIC AND ADORABLE AND ALL THE FEELS.
Ranch themed stories have never been my thing, UNTIL I found Devney Perry. She’s so adept at building the small town magic- the warmth and interconnectivity, the steady and unhurried intimacy. The tone of her books so brilliantly capture this spirit, so much so you experience it yourself. Like all of Devney’s books, this has such charm, there is just a charisma about her writing- an affection and nostalgia she inspires. Like a big, warm hug. That doesn’t mean her books aren’t complicated or that there aren’t struggles, there are. Rather, it is how tenderly she unpacks the layers of her characters, how steadily and intentionally the story and conflicts resolve, how she weaves in meaningful themes that we come to understand through the eyes of our characters. Her books have so much heart, and as such, they touch our own.
Devney Perry strikes again with Wild Highway. While this doesn’t have her signature touch of suspense, it was no less gripping. A road trip. Righting wrongs. A second chance at so much more than love kept me glued to my kindle.
I loved Gemma. From her willingness to put in hard work to the way she guarded her tender heart. How she was trying to mend broken fences. How she loved deeply, but quietly. How she was putting her happiness first. Which led her back to Montana, the only place that had ever truly felt like home.
But not everyone was happy she was there. Namely Easton. Oh broody Easton. He had a lot on his plate with running the ranch. Gemma showing up was not in his plans. And he sure let her know it. At the same time, he couldn’t stop himself from wanting to be around her.
As Gemma and Easton spent more time together, she started to open up. Share the pain from her past. Oh my heart- the things she endured and came out on the other side of slayed me. My heart bled for this beautifully strong and broken woman. And poor Easton. He was caught in this purgatory of wanting to push for more and bracing himself for her inevitable departure. Because their time together had an expiration date on it, didn’t it?
Easton and Gemma’s second-chance romance made me swoon and smile in equal measure. Devney Perry got me right in the chest with this one. The heady tension. The heartache. The steam. The horse rides. The peace in the quiet moments. But more than that, it was seeing Gemma grow and find the thing she had always wanted that made Wild Highway unputdownable.
“ . . .”— (#2), .
Wild Highway is the second book in Devney Perry’s Runaways series and it is one of those books that brings you back to the calm, and it does a damn good job while taking you through the story.
It’s a small town romance that steals your heart with the story of two old flames.
Gemma and Easton, gosh, they were not what I expected.
Gemma is a strong woman, despite her cracks, she’s feisty and downright amazing.
She leaves her life in Boston to find herself, after eleven years of being a business woman, and somehow ends up driving her friend’s Cadillac to California… only for her emotions telling her to take a detour to the Greer’s resort in Montana, to mend some broken ties…until she fell for the brooding man she left after a one night stand a decade ago.
Easton is the country man we all desire, and Devney has written his character to be everything we could want.
Grumpy, irritable, hot and an alpha who hides all those feelings behind a mask.
This was Gemma and Easton’s second chance, and it was beautiful.
These two were destined to be together.
They share chemistry that’s undeniable and I only want more.
This book is hot, funny, filled with old feelings and a whole lot of love.
It took me one sitting to finish this book and it was so worth it! I’ll be waiting for the next book with anticipation!
One of my favourite reads of 2020!
Easton Greer quickly became one of my favorite Devney Perry hero’s! This cowboy rode in on his horse and stole my heart. Swoon-worthy, grumpy, the perfect blend of sexy and sullen, Montana cowboy. I could not get enough of this man! I need to take a road trip to Montana to find my own Easton Greer.
Gemma Lane is sassy, hardworking, determined, an independent women. She’s trying to find her place in life, a home. But that’s not so easy with the wall she’s built around herself, to shield her from pain and disappointment. I loved her slowly opening up and finding her home. The vulnerability she showed, the emotions she let herself embrace.
Easton and Gemma have one explosive, argumentative, heat filled connection. I loved every minute of these two. Their love story is one I want to live in forever. It was beautiful, passionate, and so sexy!
Wild Highway is another fantastic, captivating story from one of my FAVORITE authors!

Wild Highway is book 2 of the Runaway series, Gemma has gone from a runaway to selling her company for millions now she’s on a road trip taking the Cadillac to California finishing the adventure her friend started. Stopping at the Greer Ranch and Mountain Resort to apologize to a friend and fellow runaway for leaving without saying goodbye she also comes face with Easton the once boy who after a passionate night she also didn’t say good bye to.
Gemma has really spent her life succeeding in business but not so much in life, never forming friendships never feeling she’d be missed if she was gone.
I loved this book, Gemma’s journey to find where she belonged, finding a family that was hers. Though at time it broke my heart and I wanted to smack Easton I loved Gemma’s journey.
Devney Perry really writes characters with souls and I’m loving this series can’t wait for the next one!
