I loved this authors writing and this series is really good. As much as I loved the first book this one I floved it! The emotions that Devney portrayed in this one was everything! so raw, so real, she made me shed so many tears for Gemma but they were worth it.
Gemma has had a rough start to life after running away from home and ending up living in a junk yard with some friends. Since she left LA and moved to Boston she has worked hard every day so she doesn’t have to worry about eating again. After analysing her life she decides its time she found what makes her truly happy and sells her company embarking on a trip across country to return the Cadilac to one of her Runaway friends.
Along the way she makes a detour in Montana to make amends with a friend and comes face to face with again with the one boy she has never forgotten, Easton, but he is all man now! The sparks are certainly flying between them even when Easton is denying he still has feelings for her and is banking on her leaving again.
As the story goes on you get to know more about Gemma, you see her vulnerable side. I honestly wanted to shake Easton a few times for being so totally clueless! All she wants is to find where she belongs, where she is wanted but despite being a kicka** business woman she is afraid to ask for what she really wants.
Well done Devney this one was simply brilliant! I’m intrigued for the next one and Katherine’s story!
Absolutely loved this book!! This is the second in the Runaway series and while I recommend reading them in order you don’t have to. I’m sure you will enjoy this whether you’ve read the first book or not. I must say this author is quickly becoming one of my top 5 favorites. I enjoy her writing style and find her stories fresh and unique. This book and series are no exception, now I have to wait until August for the next book, ugh. Gemma and Easton are amazing characters and their second chance story is a fun entertaining read. This is a must read, I highly recommend it!
This series is so good. I love that it focuses on Runaway Kids. I really loved Easton and Gemma. The second chance was off the charts. I enjoyed how he made her break down her walls. Such a great story. I am so excited for Katherine and Cash’s story and more time with the Greer family!!
Wild Highway is book 2 of the Runaway Series. I love the idea that the characters are basically handing off the car in each book. In this book Gemma sets out on the open road heading to California but detours to Montana to see an old friend and make amends. While there she runs into Easton whom she spent one night with before she left Montana years earlier. Easton isn’t happy to see her and is more than happy to demonstrate that fact. This leads to a great enemies to lovers and second chance romance story. The characters had great chemistry and Devney makes us once again feel at home in Montana. I cannot wait for the next book!
Devney nailed it giving me another amazing top read of 2020.
This book is definitely a must!
Wild Highway is truly a beautiful wild ride with some unexpected twists to give it extra “umph.”
This is book two in the Runaway series and while can be read as a standalone, you’d be missing out on meeting some glorious characters.
This is Gemma’ s story, and it surpassed all my expectations.
I simply inhaled this book. I adored these characters, the storyline and the beautiful imagery of Montana..
Once I started reading I was swept into Gemma’s incredible journey and I swear I felt I was with her discovering with her what she was looking for.
Gemma is taking road trip cross country to return a 1964 vintage Cadillac to its rightful owner. She decides to take a detour to Montana to visit an old friend and make amends for a mistake from years ago. What she encounters is more than just seeing her old friend Katherine. She bumps into someone she also knew long ago who she shared a moment in time that she never forgot… and she never expected to see again… Easton Greer.
His name alone is sinfully sexy. What he has to say about her being there…priceless!!!
As Gemma struggles to make amends with her friends, she accepts a dare from Easton that had her staying longer than anticipated.
What happens next is a brilliantly told heartfelt passionate and funny story.
You just have to read and find out for yourself how the story developed and evolved. The writing was strong, the banter between the characters even the secondary ones was on point.
Gemma was such a soulful and relatable character I could have read her story on and on.
Hers was a journey of second chances in life, love and friendship.
My only issue with the story was that Easton was somewhat mysterious and the “Why” for some of his actions was not fully explained.
However, this story was so enjoyable and engaging that this lack of info didn’t take away from loving this story.
Wild Highway is the second book in the Runaway series, and while they can each technically be read as a standalone I recommend starting from the beginning.
I absolutely love the premise of this series, each book centering on another friend driving a Cadillac from their past across the country. And the more hints we get about each character, and pieces of the puzzle that is their shared past, the more excited I become.
I loved these characters so much! Gemma was definitely way more than I was expecting, she’s such a strong & resilient character. And Easton was the perfect mix of salty & sweet, all broody at first but once you pull back the layers you can’t help but swoon. Their chemistry is off the charts, and the slow build-up between them made it even better.
“He shattered me completely, leaving me in tiny pieces that would never fit together in the same way again.”
This book is the ultimate second chance – not only at love but at friendship, family, and finding where you truly belong. This book brings out all the feels, pulling at every heartstring and had me on the verge of tears. But it’s also filled with so much love, and I can’t remember the last time I smiled so much while reading a book.
Devney Perry has created such a fun world that not only spans multiple tropes but an entire country and I’m so excited for the rest of this adventure!
Wild Highway by Devney Perry is the second book in her Runaway series. An interconnected standalone that is told in dual POV between Gemma Lane and Easton Greer.
The premise of the series is that there were six kids in California who were homeless but found sanctuary at a junkyard and with each other. We meet them now that they are all grown up.
Book one, Runaway Road, began with Londyn making a trip back to California from Boston to return the restored and repaired Cadillac that was her home at the junkyard to the boy that shared it with her. Londyn is detoured in West Virginia and finds her happily ever after there.
Gemma visits Londyn in West Virginia and resumes the Cadillac’s journey to California. Gemma ends up detoured in Montana where she reconnects with another friend, Katherine, from the junkyard and finds love in the surliest of men, one handsome Montana rancher, Easton Greer. Gemma has sold her company, made millions off the deal, and has gone from workaholic to trying to find her place in the world. Her detour to Montana was an attempt to make amends with Katherine whom she left behind years ago when she fled to Boston, craving a big city and a chance to earn and advance. Rekindling that friendship is the start to Gemma’s healing process but there is still Easton to deal with.
Well-written and well-paced there is always the perfect mix of angst, romance, depth and heat in Devney’s books. Another five star emotional read that was devoured in less than a day! Enjoy!
Devney Perry has knocked it out of the park with Wild Highway. When I think of second chance romances, I think of romance, angst and heartache. Wild Highway hit all those marks and took me on a journey I never saw coming…
Wild Highway is the second book in the Runaway Series and it follows the story of Gemma and Easton. From the moment you meet these two characters, you will be utterly consumed by them. I mean, you might as well cancel all of your plans for the day, because you’re going to want to just devour their story.
Gemma’s life has never been easy. Her home life was toxic and it forced her to leave home at a young age. Ever since she left home, she’s fought and worked hard for everything in her life. She’s tried to make something of herself and tried to find her place in the world. But, no matter what Gemma does, she always feels like she’s spinning her wheels. She’s never truly found her place, so when the opportunity to take a road trip to California presents itself, Gemma can’t turn it down. What started off as a road trip to clear her mind, ends up with a detour that turns her life completely upside down……
Wild Highway is literally everything that I could want and need in a second chance romance. The characters are real, flawed and filled to the brim with emotion. They are easy to relate to and the more you spend time with them, the more you want to see their story come together. Gemma & Easton had me hooked from the very first page. The chemistry between them was scorching and impossible to miss. They had the enemies to lovers vibe going and when you add their past to it, it only made things more intense. Gemma was strong and fierce. She had been through so much and just wanted to find her place in the world. And while Easton appears to be this gruff, broody man, there is more to him than meets the eyes. He’s got the weight of the world on his shoulders. He’s got major feelings for Gemma, but is afraid of letting her get close again. I loved watching these two try to figure things out and see if they could find their way back to one another again.
Wild Highway consumed me. It filled me with so many emotions and I couldn’t help but devour this book. Gemma and Easton were a force to be reckoned with. Their story proved to be everything that I wanted and wished for. It’s the kind of story that knocks you off of your feet and will keep you begging for more. It’s a story filled with love, angst and heartache. It’s a story of forgiveness and hope. It’s a story that will leave you with so many feels and the biggest smile on your face.
Wild Highway was a fantastic read from beginning to end and I just loved every single second of it. I am completely in love with the Runaway Series and can not wait to see what journey this author will take my heart on next!
Wild Highway by Devney Perry is a stand-alone in her Runaway Series. Every book is about another couple and can easily be read as a stand-alone. For best reading experience, and yes – there are a few cross-overs, I recommend to read the books in order. The previous book is Runaway Road, Londyn and Brooks’ story.
Now it’s Gemma’s turn. Gemma Lane is one of the six kids who lived at the yunkyard in a texan smalltown. The 30 year old build an empire all on her own. Now she’s on a journey across the country to meet old acquantainces. What she finds is something totally unexpected – sorry no sorry, no spoilers here. Only so much, Easton Greer is one of them and they have unfinished business, a lot of.
Easton challenges her on every turn, taunts her, turns her upside down.
Another great read by this outstanding author. My first read by her was The Birthday List since then I can’t get enough of the writing.
Gemma had built an empire out of absolutely nothing. She knew staying in Montana when she was a kid wouldn’t get her where she wanted to be in life. She left but she regrets how she did it. She knew she needed to go back and give apologies to Katherine and Easton. She was worried how they were going to react.
I love the way that Devney pulls you into the story, makes you want to hug the characters, makes you cry with them and sigh with them too. I loved his family, how they make you a part of their family and makes you laugh and cringe with them too!
I was so worried about these two plus Katherine. (I was spreading the worry around lol!) I cannot wait for Katherine’s and Cash’s story. I seriously cannot wait for the secrets of these two!!!
I loved this book. SO. MUCH. I’m at a loss of words of how to say what made me love it so much. This was such a beautiful story where we get to see a strong, beautiful woman find herself and where she belongs. Gemma finding herself & righting past wrongs was beautiful. I loved watching her fix her friendship with Katherine, and figure out her relationship with Easton. Easton….he was so perfect. These two together gave me all the feels.
Devney did an amazing job continuing this series! It might be becoming my new favorite of hers!! I love how she’s already got me dying for Katherine’s book! I NEED IT NOWWWW.
Gah! Oh my goodness where to even start with this book. It goes without saying that Devney is one of my go to, instant one click authors. I have read everything that she’s written so far, and each and every book that she releases, I fall in love with each and everyone. Wild Highway is no different.
Going into this book I just knew I’d be in for one heck of a ride. This really and truly is romance at its best.
Gemma is lost in life, she feels like she needs to find herself again and where better than on a beautiful ranch in Montana. Enter Easton, the ranch manager and sexy as all hell Montanan cowboy. He will piss you off, but he will also have your underwear wanting to melt off with his sexy words.
Not only is this a journey of self discovery, this is also about learning to let go of the past, forgiveness and most of all finding the one place you can call home. This was an absolutely phenomenal book and I for one cannot wait for the next book in this series.
5 Stars
5 cowboys do it better stars!
Enemies to lovers
Independent, bad ass heroine
Broody and swoony Cowboy
Hot af banter
Intriguing story telling
Unexpected tears
Wild Highway is the sequel to the Runaway Series and tells Gemma’s story. As usual Devney manages to stir the story in an unxpected way. Gemma is the definition of a self made woman, after years of hard work and sacrifice she was able to proof to herself and the world that she was more than a messed up runaway kid and that she was nothing like her mother. So after having it all why did she feel so empty? She embarks on a self discovery journey and ends up in the last place she expected to go back, trying to mend a wrong.
Enter Easton who’s still feeling pretty jaded towards Gemma even after 11 years. His worked for years trying to build his own little empire but still living in the shadow of his family.
“She let loose that smile, stealing my breath and the last piece of my heart”.
Their banter and chemistry is off the charts, they both personal issues they need to work through but the journey is beautiful. Their story takes us on a road of self discovery, forgiveness, finding home and of course love.
Another Devney Perry hit! I really enjoyed Wild Highway.
Gemma didn’t have a great childhood, but she was determined to make her life better. She built her empire from the ground up, turning it into millions, but she’s not truly happy and doesn’t fit in there. Taking a road trip is just what she needs to clear her head. She ends up detouring in Montana to visit some old friends and runs into Easton.
Easton is grumpy and sexy. He’s completely shocked when Gemma shows up. He doesn’t believe a word that comes out of Gemma’s mouth and know she’s just going to run away again.
Is Gemma planning to stay or is she going to run back to her wealthy life far away from Montana? Will Easton change his mind about Gemma?
5 Stars!
I am really enjoying this series!
Gemma takes over for Londyn in the journey to California to drop off a car to another friend. She makes a pit stop along the way to see another old “junkyard” friend and gets more than she expected…..Easton.
They had a brief hookup over a decade ago but there is still an attraction when they run into one another at the ranch. I enjoyed reading their story grow from anger to love. Gemmas past makes it so hard for her to move on. I understand why she is the way she is with people given her past but she deserves to be able to open up her heart and to lovely freely. I am so glad she finally did.
I am ready for Katherine’s story now! I need to see where she ends up and with who.
These books are a standalone interconnected series. However, I would recommend reading Runaway Road first to start the flow of the story. It makes for a smoother and more fun ride!
4.5 ‘Where do you fit, Gemma?’ Stars!
ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
I do believe I have a new favorite runaway! Though I’ve loved the stories of both runaways I’ve already read. Devney Perry is killing it with her new series about this group of broken people who shared a junkyard home when they were young. We started with Londyn and now it was time for Gemma to get into the Cadillac and get her own adventure to happiness. Of course, Devney did a wonderful job with this emotional second chance romance!
Wild Highway is the second installment in the Runaway series and I believe it is best enjoyed after reading Runaway Road. Gemma Lane left a difficult life behind when she was just a young girl. She build a home in a junkyard with five other kids and now, years later, she is a very successful businesswoman. There is one thing though: she feels empty and does not know where she belongs. That is what makes her take Londyn’s car on a road trip and she ends up in Montana, where she reunites with the two people she left behind there years ago: one of her junkyard friends and the man who apparently hates her after how they left things back then.
I was still just a runaway kid, numb to the world, searching for anything to make her feel.
Oh, did I love Gemma and Easton! I love me a good small town, second chance romance and Devney is an expert on both of those troupes. That back and forth between this couple was captivating. The pull was so strong and what seems to start again as hate is not. Not at all. This love story, besides being entertaining and addicting, was full of emotions. This is the second chance Gemma and Easton deserved. I loved how their relationship developed, their interactions with all the Greer family and their slow burn chemistry.
“Be real with me.” I inched closer, bringing my hands to her shoulders. “If no one else, be real with me.”
I do have to say I especially enjoyed the second half of the book, which happens to be romantic, burning hot and emotionally intense. Learning the whole story of Gemma’s past broke my heart and seeing how Easton becomes protective and tender melted my heart. I loved this couple together and it so clear they belong with one another. I mean, THAT SCENE in the last chapter? MOVIE MOMENT! I cried. I freaking looooooved it. It brought everything together and it made my poor soul so happy.
I was his. I belonged with him.
The chaos I’d felt for, well… forever, seemed to simply uncoil.
Therefore, I am rating Wild Highway with 4.5 STARS, same rating as the first book in the series but for different reasons. This time Devney gave us a touching second chance romance and trust me, you don’t want to miss it. You’ll fall in love with Gemma and Easton, their beautiful connection and the rest of the characters too. I am loving the theme of this series and its characters and I literally cannot wait for the next book. Those teasers about Katherine and Cash got me so excited! Highly recommend this one!
Oh my word.
I’m all in my feelings over this story. I don’t know what I was expecting, but it wasn’t the emotional punch packed into this short, sweet, sexy book. I loved Runaway Road, but Wild Highway took it to the next level to me. I felt Gemma and Easton’s connection to my core. My heart wrapped itself around them and felt every ache and bruise as these two sorted through their issues and fumbled their way into a hard-won love story.
It was so good. Gemma’s story broke my heart. I felt for her. I ached and hurt and occasionally wanted to give Easton a good smack across the back of the head on her behalf. I loved how she sorted through her own baggage while still allowing Easton to be her hero. I loved how Ms. Perry managed to make her this complex character – wounded, but strong. A warrior princess with a glass heart. She was so easy to love.
And Easton? Pure cowboy perfection. Strong, silent. I loved watching him process his feelings and try to do right by Gemma – even as he sort of biffed it at every turn. I loved his steadfast heart. I felt like I didn’t get as deep of a dive into Easton as I did into Gemma, but I loved him all the same.
The chemistry between the two was palpable, and the tenderness between them completely swept me off my feet. It was emotional, but it was also feel good and I want to read a million more of these stories.
I also loved the family dynamics in this one. I loved how it wasn’t just Easton winning Gemma’s heart, but really his whole family. I loved the rekindling friendship, and the hints that there is more to come. It was just so completely satisfying. I feel like this series is just getting warmed up, and my heart is already all-in on it. I love everything about it – from concept to execution – and I absolutely can’t wait to see where it goes from here!
The concept of this series is brilliant. I love that these characters grew up together in a junkyard. Fighting to survive their horrible circumstances. We’ve met Londyn and now Gemma so far, and I have fallen in love with them both. Gemma has a cold-as-ice exterior, but I felt her vulnerability and loneliness. It was palpable. My heart broke for her. Her connection with Montana and the Greer family was wonderful. I loved that the girls had gone there when they were young to find work and chase their dreams. Even though she left, it did feel like coming home for her. The tension between her and Easton was intense. The sparks were flying, and I loved their banter. I could feel the longing that they both had for the other, yet they were so terrified of failing. They were going to lose everything, unless someone finally spoke out. I am ALWAYS glued to the pages of a Devney Perry book. This new series might be my new favorite. I will probably say this with every new release. Absolutely loved it.
I love this story!! Wild Highway is a standalone story but Gemma Lane was introduced in Runaway Road. It is her turn to take the wheel of the Cadillac and hit the road heading for California, but decided to make a pit stop.
“Tonight’s banter felt different than our normal bickering. It was almost fun. Charged. It felt a lot like foreplay.”
This story is a really quick read. Although light on angst, it packs a big emotional punch as Gemma returns to the place of her biggest regret and attempts to make amends and tie up loose ends.
“She put on such a strong façade. She was fearless and wild. But beneath it all, she was scared.”
This series is awesome and I can’t wait for the next leg of the Cadillac’s road trip.
-5 Stars!-
4.5
Oh what a great second chance romance between Gemma and Easton! I loved the push and pull between these two. I felt for Gemma and loved how Easton was breaking down those walls along with his family. It’s a hard toad when you’ve been let down by those you love but it’s reward is better when you allow yourself to love and be loved!
