Wild Highway was a sweet, sexy, emotional, and swoon-worthy standalone romance, and I absolutely loved Easton and Gemma’s story! The storyline and characters were amazing, and I loved the landscape of Montana and the Greer Ranch and Mountain Resort. Devney Perry did a fantastic job with this second standalone in the Runaway series, and I was super ecstatic with the conclusion to Easton and Gemma’s story. I definitely can’t wait to continue the rest of this must read road trip series!
So I wasn’t sure after the first book in this series if it was my thing, but this one blew me away. Easton and Gemma had so much to work out between them and, while I wanted to slap Easton many times, I loved Gemma. This series is shaping up to be a winner to me now and I can’t wait for Kat’s turn.
(Lowered my rating because I didn’t feel a genuine, close connection between these two until almost the very end, Easton wasn’t manning up and admitting his feelings, and the insecure, hand wringing, wishy-washy heroine was annoying me.)
I don’t have time to linger long, folks, because I do need to get back on the road with my ARC reading schedule list. So I’ll try to be as quick and concise as possible. In fact, these comments may serve more as a conversation with myself to keep me remember the gist of this book later on.
Gemma – Sad, tragic hard luck childhood past that frankly is hard to buy into. I have a hard time thinking a total of “six” random kids would go unnoticed by authorities/an entire community living in a junkyard (sleeping in cars, or makeshift tarp/metal tents with the ground as a bed) for so long. For someone that is supposed to be so strong, together, organized, and a multi-millionaire now to boot, Gemma is one hand wringing, insecure, wishy-washy, cries a lot, doesn’t know what she wants so doesn’t fight for it, hot mess of a person.
Easton – A big jerk to her cause he’s still mad the girl he ignored/didn’t give her two cents or the time of day years ago had the gull to leave after a few hours of smex between the sheets with him without saying goodbye. If you ask me, he tended to only view life thru his self centered life lens. But, hey, it is implied he’s a good guy so we are expected to roll with that, folks.
These two bicker/banter, push/pull each other away after hooking up here and there cause Gemma really needed to get her some of this man. Let’s just say, this guy delivers more than one type of wood when he comes knocking on her cabin door. Easton supposedly starts to want her to stay but isn’t man enough to say so. Insecure Gemma doesn’t feel worthy to be part of his close family clan.
The next book will feature Kat (Gemma’s former homeless friend and co-worker on this ranch) and Easton’s handsome, clueless, younger bro Cash, who is blind as a bat when it comes to recognizing Kat’s feelings for him. Yeah, a road trip trapped in a car with her is likely meant to do the trick, my fellow romance book loving friends.

I’m enjoying this series so much! These characters all certainly deserve to find their happily ever afters.
Gemma was such a strong and proud person. She came from nothing and against all odds became a wealthy successful businesswoman. The saying money doesn’t buy happiness is true, so Gemma takes a road trip in the Cadillac in search of hers.
Easton had already been hurt once by Gemma leaving. He’s understandably angry when she shows back up, so his plan is to keep his distance knowing she’ll leave again. Easton puts on a good show being gruff and acting as though he doesn’t care. However, underneath is a sweet caring man capable of giving Gemma the home she’s always wanted.
Both Gemma and Easton were great characters. Even though their stubbornness got in the way a few times, they eventually opened their eyes. Kat is a sweetheart and I’m excited to see what it will take to get Easton’s brother Cash to realize who has been right in front of him all these years. Their book is next.
Great series from a great author.
Gemma and Easton’s turbulent relationship was a fantastic second chance read! I loved the emotional journey Gemma found herself on and was cheering for her when she would overcome an emotional hurdle. Easton was a great guy with his own issues to work out, but I loved how he tried to be supportive and patient with Gemma. Overall, fab read and I’m looking forward to Cash and Katherine’s journey.
What a wonderful, compelling story.
This books was so beautifully emotion that, since them moment I started it, I just couldn’t put it down.
Gemma and Easton’s chemistry and connection were eletric, but so was their pride.
Their feelings were getting more and more undeniable, but the wariness they carried around each other was almost palpable, and we couldn’t even blame them for that.
Gemma has been through so much that guarding her heart is like second nature for her. She both craves and is terrified of creating roots, because even though she could have everything she never even dreamed of having, she could also lost the hard earned protection she built around her heart.
But the denial and grudge between them end up being the most powerful form of foreplay. They try so hard to keep each other’s at arm’s length, but the more they struggle, the closer and more intertwined they become.
Their feelings are powerful, barely contained and threatening to explode at any given moment if not given the necessary attention. No matter how hard they fight against those ever growing feelings, some things are impossible to ignore.
One more time the Cadillac brought people together. At first, reuniting two long lost friends (even though “friends” sounds so weak compared to what Gemma and Katherine are to each other). Their story and their new connection were so beautiful to watch, blooming beautifully and effortlessly before our eyes.
And not only that, but the classic Americana brought Gemma way more than she expected. More than the friend she thought she’d lost, it brought the man she’d believed she’d never have anymore and the family she never believed she could be a part of.
*4 Stars*
Another great instalment in this series. I am loving all the characters and can’t wait to get all their stories. Gemma and Easton have so much tension and anger between them – you know its going to come together in an explosive way.
I really enjoyed reading about these two and Gemma trying to work out where she fits. I felt their emotions, and I kept wanting to smack them upside the head and just sort things out.
I love the Greer family as well – this small-town cowboy thing is a fave of mine – and the family vibe combined with it was just wonderful. What a world the author has created.
Enjoyed this one and looking forward to more. Great setup for the next book too.
This book is funny, and sweet and all the things a good romance book should be. I really enjoyed it!
I absolutely adore this series!! Easton and Gemma are perfect! Devney Perry is a master at ripping your heart out of your chest (multiple times in this book), and then stitching it back together better than it was. Gemma’s extremely difficult upbringing is 180 degrees from Easton’s, but their journey to finding love is beautiful. Read this series in order, but most importantly- READ THIS SERIES!!!
I am CRAZY over this series. I mean I adore Devney Perry and her reads, but I really am loving this series. They are the type fo book I can read in one sitting and I know I am going to fall in love with the characters.
Devney is the high queen of small town romance and this series embodies that. Sometimes love takes you away from home but in the end family is what you make it and this book brought that. I loved reading about this coupe and watching them evolve and their love grow. This makes me want to road trip to Montana like NOW. This novel lives and breaths finding what makes your soul sing, and I was here for it.
It had all the tension and feels one would hope for in a great romance novel.
Author Devney Perry’s books are my happy place. No matter where I am in life or what my mood is or my heart is feeling her words make me smile. They fill me up with joy!
Wild Highway is an utter delight! It has strong conflict, well-written characters, a courageous heroine, an amazing plot, to die for hot hero and humor. Those elements have become Author Perry’s calling cards and they are all present here and beautifully spun into a book that you won’t want to put down. It is truly excellent and will touch your heart on so many levels!
Gemma is on the road to deliver a car for a friend, to a long lost friend. She makes a detour to mend a friendship with Katherine. While there she sees an old love. The one she ran away from without a goodbye all those years ago.
Easton, strong, stubborn, sexy and shocked to see Gemma. A face he longed to see again years ago but loathes seeing how. His brain and heart may say take cover but his body says differently. Their chemistry is scorching hot and could start an inferno.
One click this intensely satisfying read. The road to the end has twists and turns of humor and gut wrenching emotions. It is a story that won’t soon be forgotten, so strap on your seat belt and let the wind whip your hair as you enjoy the ride down Wild Highway!
I love this series!!!!! Gemma has found her home and now it is Kat’s turn. Must read.
4.5 stars
After reading about Gemma in Runaway Road, I was definitely ready for her story and I really enjoyed it! Gemma is such a strong woman. After everything she went through (that we slowly learn about during the story), I think it’s amazing what she built for herself. Going to see her friend Katherine was a really good idea for her. I loved seeing her slowly open up and let herself feel. I can’t imagine how hard that is, but she did it. It was nice seeing her let herself enjoy where she was. A strong character, but also really loyal (even when that’s not the easiest choice).
Easton has definitely been added to my last of book boyfriends! I loved him from the start and he was so cute when frustrated about Gemma. It was interesting to see him working so hard to make sure the family’s business kept on going and got even better as it was going. It was interesting to see him have a hard time when his father and grandfather wouldn’t let him take control when all he wanted was the best. I think he just needed to see it from a different perspective. Easton was stubborn, but also so sweet and protective. We need many more characters like him.
The romance was steamy and frustrating at times. They both cared so much more than they wanted to admit, but it was just hard. Their moments together had me laughing and smiling and their chemistry came off of the pages! I’m happy when a romance and love story leaves a big smile on my face and that’s what happened here. Devney Perry knows how to write love stories.
But I can’t forget the setting or cast of side characters either. Easton’s family is amazing and I love when there are families you just want to be a part of! They made me laugh, but they also seemed like a bunch that would do anything for each other. Last but not least, the setting! A mountain resort? Yes, please! I don’t like cold, but I would definitely let that go for a place like that. Once again, Devney Perry left me loving the characters and wishing I was in the cabin with these characters.
4.5 stars!!!
Devney has got me OBSESSED with this series. My favorite series of the year!!!
Wild Highway was a second chance romance that had me making heart eyes the whole way through. I’m normally not a big fan of this kind of trope, but if Devney writes it, I LOVE it. There’s also a brooding cowboy in this and lots of feel good moments.
I so can’t wait for Katherine’s story!!!
I read the first book in the series and loved it. This book was also just as great. I’ve needed something to keep my mind off life and this was what I needed. Gemma and Easton were not the easiest couple. In fact, she literally runs in to him on her way back into town and he’s kind of a jerk to her. That’s not to say that he doesn’t have a good reason though. Devney always puts her characters from previous books in her new books, which is what I love about her. She knows how to write hometown romance like nobody’s business. This was another 5-star for me!!
Devney Perry, Author of “Wild Highway” has written a steamy, entertaining, and captivating story. This is the second in the Runaway Series. This can be read alone. The genres are romance and contemporary fiction. The author describes her characters as complex and complicated.
Gemma Lane has accomplished many things as an adult. She has made millions of dollars. No one could believe she was part of a small group of young teenagers living in a junkyard while growing up. Gena borrows an expensive Cadillac that has been refurbished from one of those friends and is determined to bring it to the original owner in California. She has wanderlust and the need to find herself. Gena winds up stopping in Montana to make amends with one of her former friends.
There she sees Easton Greer and alpha cowboy that once upon a time had her affections. He treats her like a spoiled wealthy girl. Only there are sparks. Gemma does reunite with her girlfriend and they become close. Will Gemma find a place to stay, or will she continue to ride the “Wild Highway”?
I would highly recommend this novel. The themes are forgiveness, second chances, finding love, and hope.
Driving cross country take a detour and end up with a blast from the past.
A very sexy tempting blast from the past. Absolutely adored this book by Devney Perry. You are certainly in for a fun ride on the Wild Highway. Plenty of drama, plenty of fun, plenty of loving.
Such an enjoyable read
Devney has really done it again with this next installment in the Runaway series, and I was so THRILLED to read this book.
I was really excited to learn about Gemma and get to know Easton in the second book in the Runaway series.
Gemma Lane is the heroine and she has come a long way from her homeless/drifter ways of her youth. She has know grown into a well educated adult, and is known for her power in her own right. She just keeps swinging and hitting her life out of the park. But what is all the money and power, if she is a wounded soul?
Gemma was on the way across the country in a Cadillac, but she ends up in Montana with someone from her past.
Easton Greer is the hero in this story, and he meets his match in Gemma. Gemma tries to ignore his crazy comments in an effort to be the bigger person and to win back his friendship (maybe more.)
I could tell they both recognized the wounds in each other. And when he calls her “darlin’” it totally melted me.
This book has EVERYTHING. Strong characters, intelligent, determined, wounded souls, friends to lovers, heart racing moments.
Devney has done it again in the quick read, with an emotional one two punch. Pick this one up and Runaway Road and you won’t be disappointed in either read. No cliffhanger, and its a series of standalones!
Wild Highway is the second book in the Runaway series by Devney Perry……and oh my goodness, I am just loving this series!! I finished Gemma and Easton’s story in one sitting – it was so addictive that I could not put it down! It’s enemies to lovers and second chance all wrapped into one fantastic story!
Gemma and Easton had met years ago, when she, Londyn, and Katherine ended up working on his parent’s ranch. There was always a chemistry between them, and after the night they hooked up, Gemma up and left the ranch without a word.
Over ten years later, Gemma’s continuing the Cadillac’s journey to California for Londyn……but she decides to make a detour to Montana to apologize to Katherine for leaving all those years ago without a word. And when she sees Easton again, all those feelings for him come back.
After spending time at the ranch, Gemma feels a bit lost after giving up her company and seeing the home Katherine has made for herself on the ranch. And all she has ever truly wanted was a place to call home and feel like she truly belongs. Once he got over his anger from the past, Easton definitely made her feel cherished and adored and wanted – and I absolutely loved that moment when he came after her before she had a chance to get away once again.
