4.5 STARS!
Wild Highway is book two in Devney Perry’s Runaway series and is filled with lots of small-town loving!
We first meet Gemma in book one, Runaway Road, and she is a member of the Junk Yard crew (a group of runaways). Now, she’s wealthy and successful but she’s still lost and hasn’t found her way just yet. She decides to take the plunge, sells her company and rides off in the Red Cadillac to Montana to make amends with Katherine (a fellow Junk Yard friend) and while there she runs into (literally) Easton, the guy she once crushed on and left behind.
Easton Greer is one fine cowboy, folks. He’s the definition of brooding and he does it so well #sigh. He’s a total jerk towards Gemma but for good reason. After sharing one night together, she left him high and dry, no note. No explanation then returns 11 years later . One thing you must know about Easton is he’s one stubborn man. He was truly hurt after Gemma left and neither ever really got over the other.
Gemma and Easton are electrifying! Their banter and arguing is intense and sweet all at once! Everything between them was sexy and hot, and it will leave you swooning. I just couldn’t get enough of these two!
This book gave me all the feels, so much so, that at one point I found myself misty-eyed. Honestly, this book is probably Devney’s angstiest and she delivered some tough points with so much finesse. Gemma’s pain and sorrow was truly felt .
This series is just utter perfection!! Katherine’s book is next and I cannot wait!!
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.*
Devney Perry has once again blown me away with a book from the Runaway series. Book two, Wild Highway, was a poignant and moving story about one woman’s cross-country journey to find herself. What she found instead was the home she’s always longed for and a second-chance at love with the one man she’s never forgotten.
Gemma Lane has built her empire, and for a girl with her personal history, it was a particularly remarkable feat. A teen runaway who spent several years living in a junkyard in Temecula, California with a makeshift family of other teen runaways, she has come a long way from those humble beginnings. She’s built an empire, she’s achieved success and she’s accumulated wealth. But even though she’s extremely proud of how far she’s come, she can’t seem shake.
As a child, I remember vividly the summer I devoured the Boxcar Children books. I loved that series so much, and Perry has stated that it’s the inspiration for this series. I definitely got those vibes, and I loved it. Even though there are no character cross-overs or plot parallels, this story delivers all those nostalgic vibes but in a completely fresh, new way with totally different characters and stories. Of course it wouldn’t be a Devney Perry story without a gorgeous romance, and this one between super successful CEO Gemma Lane, and gruff, tough and rough-around-the-edges rancher, Easton Greer, is heart-wrenchingly emotional and incredibly sexy.
Wild Highway was an absolute pleasure to read. These wonderfully endearing characters and this hard-fought love story consumed me, and I simply did not want to put it down. I’m so excited about this series, about what I’ve already read and what’s still to come. A top favorite for the year, Wild Highway by Devney Perry gets five smooches from me!

This is the second book in the Runaway series, following 6 friends that grew up together and parted ways. I think these books just keep getting better.
Gemma and Easton are a second-chance, enemies to lovers type story.
My total idea of who Gemma was from Runaway Road was totally turned upside down in this story. We knew she was a hardworking, ambitious gal… but there is so much more inside and I grew to like her more and more when those layers were pulled back. And Easton is a total broody dreamboat with a sweet side.
There is a lot of story packed into this book despite it’s shorter lengths than some novels and very easy to read.
***4.5 STARS***
Angst-filled and soul searching, Wild Highway is a deeply moving read that takes readers on an emotional ride as the true meaning of finding what one has lost in self is discovered.
Gemma Lane is first introduced in Runaway Road, book one in the Runaway series, as one of the six runaway teens whose home was a junkyard in California. Now among Boston’s elite, Gemma has built a life for herself as CEO of her very own cosmetics company. A spur of the moment decision uproots her, sending her on a journey of self-discovery, unravelling her refindness as she rediscovers the wild version of herself. Driving that cherry-red Cadillac from West Virginia to Western Montana, Gemma is on a mission to mend her friendship with Katherine, a fellow junkyard kid. But Katherine is not the only one Gemma has to make amends with as when she hightailed it out of Montana eleven years ago Katherine was not the only one she left behind.
Gemma was the biggest crush of Easton Greer’s life; but in the end Easton was the one left crushed. Now, Gemma is back and this extremely headstrong cowboy is a complete jerk, broody, and filled with animosity. He’s all snark but no bite because the feelings he never got over lay just below the surface of his snideness.
Together, Gemma and Easton are a wild explosive pair full of emotional turmoil. What started out as constant bickering turns into a sweet banter. From moments riding Jigsaw and working out Sprite, mucking the stalls and lifting bales; the family cabin that makes these two so very vulnerable and soft for one another to Chapter 15 and the significance of the Cadillac–Wild Highway was freeing yet finding, a small town romance with big time emotion and feels!
The Runaway series is Devney Perry’s passion project, a series loosely tied to the author’s favorite childhood chapter books, the Boxcar Children. Just as it did in the first book in this series, Perry’s passion continues to be seen and felt. Still, I remain keen, fascinated by where my fictitious mind will be transported for no matter where that cherry-red Cadillac goes, I will anxiously await the next ride.
Devney Perry has written a gorgeous journey of self discovery with well written vulnerable characters, small town charm and a second chance romance that will melt your heart. Gemma and Easton are perfection. This book will give you the feels as well as the swoons. I absolutely loved every single second of Wild Highway. I know the Runaway series is only two books in but this is by far my favorite of the two.
We first met Gemma in Runaway Road. She, like her best friend – the heroine in first book – Londyn, were young runaways who escaped terrible childhoods and found safety in a junkyard. More than a decade later and after building a successful business, Gemma still feels lost. So she decides to sell her company and takes off on a cross country road trip to California. On a detour she stops in Montana to reunite and make amends with an old friend. There she runs into Easton Greer who is not very happy to have her back.
Gemma is my new favorite Devney Perry heroine. She showed so much strength overcoming her childhood. But it was her vulnerability and her feeling of not belonging that made her relatable. I wanted nothing more than to see her have a home and a happily ever after. A HEA with Easton because that sexy, stubborn cowboy weakened my knees.
I loved Easton and Gemma together. Yes, they butted heads and exchanged barbs but you could feel all the underlying love and devotion they had for one another. There was so much hurt when Gemma left Montana the first time so you could understand why Easton had animosity towards her but you can’t deny their connection for long.
I can’t say enough good things about this book. If you’re looking for a swoony, emotional small town, second chance romance, I highly recomend picking up Wild Highway. You won’t want to put it down.
I can’t wait to read more from this series. I need Quarter Miles like immediately. Cash and Katherine and all that unrequited love angst. Yes, please!!
I’ll say that I’m having a really hard time reading books during this quarantine. I usually can’t concentrate, can’t get lost in the story… Well, not with this book. From the first page, I coundn’t put it down, I coundn’t have enough of those characters. I loved every single thing about this story. Everything. I loved the main characters, I loved all other characters and animals in this book. How many times I can say love in one review? Because I can think at least 10 more things that I loved. The whole Greer family, the ranch, how this story in a way keeps going from the first book and gives us the introduction to the next one. If you like second chance, small town romances, this book is for you.
Give me a Devney Perry book any day and I know I’ll be swept away to towns that I want to visit and people that I want to mingle with.
Wild Highway is the second book in her Runaway Series and it gave me those soul touching small town romances that made me fall in love with this genre and the author! While it is the second book you will be able to pick this awesome book up and not needed have read book one.
This book is a second chance romance with a touch of soul searching and discovery. Our main characters Gemma and Easton are a couple that I just adored. You could help but fall in love with Easton and his guarded heart. Your heart went out to Gemma and her need for finding where she belonged.
Together their chemistry, angst and journey will hook you in from the first chapter and you’ll find yourself routing for this couple to have their happy ever after.
I can’t wait to see what happens in the book three but if it’s anything like Wild Highway it’s surely going to be awesome. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone!
My heart was all tingly after reading this feel good, second chance love story by Devney.
As good as the first book Runaway Road was, this book is Even Better!!!
Londyn’s cherry-red, 1964 Cadillac DeVille convertible
it seems like the fabled pumpkin carriage given by fairy godmother of fate itself, taking the girls to their HEA. I mean if Prince Charming can’t come to the princess, they get into their car and Runaway on the Wild Highway!!
It’s a relay trip turned life changing journey for at least two of the Junkyard Gang of Temecula.
“These spontaneous decisions of the past few weeks suddenly made sense. They had purpose. They had meaning. They were to get me here, in this moment. I was setting out to right a wrong. To find myself again. On the wild highway.”
There’s something to be said about hot & sexy Cowboys in hat, boots and chaps that makes a girl go ga-ga. Easton Greer is just that, plus he has a tight Ass in those fitted jeans. Gemma Lane never stood a chance, 11 years ago and now in the present. But walking away has been easier for her, to protect her heart.
“Easton had perfected sexy, mysterious cowboy. The man belonged on the cover of a romance novel—shirtless, of course.”
When the Twain meet and revisit some of the unfulfilled desires, the heart jumps in to create havoc with the senses and it becomes a messy situation where one of them is bound to get hurt real bad!!
The book is alive with all the emotions. Set in a small town in Montana, it has earthy and rich sentiments, crispy weather and warm cozy cabins. There’s midwestern hospitality and open armed policy for the lost ones returning home
Only Gemma has no idea where her journey ends.
“I just wanted to go home. But where was home? Boston? California? The cabin? None of those places were home. I was filthy rich and utterly homeless. The closest thing I had was that Cadillac outside.”
It’s a “wandering soul looking for nirvana” kind of a story, almost like an epiphany before the fork in the road, in the middle of nowhere!!
5 stars for stallions and studs who ride them
Ahhhh! I love the concept of this series. I have a feeling the next book is going to be so much fun! How genius!
If you remember, in the first book, Londyn was making her way across the country to California, but she ended up staying in West Virginia. Wellll, now Gemma takes over the journey.
The first part of this story was a little boring for me. At one point, the chapters felt like they were the same thing over and over again, just worded differently. Then all of a sudden, the book was fun. I was glad for the needed change in pace of the book.
I can’t imagine writing an engaging story about a cross-country trip being easy. This concept has me begging for the next book. But, back to this one. I won’t lie, there were some parts in the second half that had my heart in a vice. Now, I was having an allergy attack when I read this book, so I’m pretty sure the eye leakage was from that. I mean, books don’t make me cry.
If you have been debating this series, waiting on reviewers to say whether or not it’s worth a read… I’m telling you, go pick up the first book. Read it. Then pick up this one and read it. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
I couldn’t put this book down. I was rooting so hard for this couple, I couldn’t sleep until I was sure they’d be okay.
Wild Highway is about Gemma Lane, a runaway kid who built a business that made her a millionaire. She has all the money she could ever need, but she’s not happy. She sells her business and hits the road, taking a car to a friend in California. She stops in Montana on the way and reconnects with a man she’s never been able to forget. He’s never quite forgiven her for leaving him eleven years before and their reunion is off to a rocky start to say the least.
Gemma is a strong, capable woman who’s ready to admit the mistakes she made in the past, and I couldn’t help rooting for her. Easton is a rancher helping to run a family-owned resort, and he’s hard on Gemma with good reason. I loved the chemistry between them, the way they butted heads but couldn’t help caring about each other. The sexual tension was off the charts and this book had all the feels.
I devoured this book. I wanted to savor it, but alas I laid in be bed and the rest is history. Captivated doesn’t begin to describe it. Gemma and Easton are everything!!!! I am a huge fan of Perry’s work. I’ve read every book and with every release I say she can’t outdo herself, but I am always proven wrong. Wild Highway is hands down one of my FAVORITES by Perry.
Everything about this book made me feel. I laughed, cried, and swooned. Gemma and Easton’s connection had my heart tightening.Their back and forth made me smile and laugh. And their heart to hearts had me tearing up.
I will forever be a fan of enemies to lovers, it makes for such a great ride. I can’t recommend this book enough. Please do yourself a favor and spend some time with Gemma on her wild ride.
Absolutely loved this story.
4.5***
I had to skip over quite a few steamy parts
Very easy reading. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Loved the story. After the first book and loving brooks and londyn. I couldn’t wait for Gemma. This book had lots of depth. Poor Gemma is lost and trying to find her place in the world. Recently selling her company she heads back to Montana to see and old friend and to help bring the Cadillac back to California. Watching Easton and Gemma was gold. He is all broody and pissed about her just blowing into town. And honestly he has every right to be after the way she left him last time. They had amazing chemistry and their bantering and arguing was definitely like foreplay. Loved the book. I hope cash wakes up and smells the coffee
I love this series! In this installment we follow Gemma as she trades her hectic life in the corporate world for a vintage cadillac and the wild highway. She finds herself traveling back to Montana to make amends to her friend before she continues to California to deliver the car. Running in to her old flame Easton may derail that plan, but will it be temporary or permanent? Gemma is a big city girl now and Easton has no hopes that she would want to settle for the country life on the ranch he holds so dear.
I love the relationship that Gemma and Katherine have and how some friendships stand the test of time and distance. I also felt like Gemma taking us back to Montana was like going home for the reader. Devney Perry makes us all want to move there!
Page turning.
Marvellous.
Book Two in this series
…and it just gets better with Gemma and Easton’s story.
A Second Chance Romance and a bit of enemies to lovers too, this is a rollercoaster of emotions as Gemma’s past is heartbreaking.
She can’t seem to find her place and doesn’t feel like she fits in anywhere, all she wants is to find a home,a place to settle. After a traumatic childhood and then making her fortune becoming a rich woman, she is not satisfied it doesn’t make her happy.Selling her buisness she goes on a road trip to California stopping off to the ranch were her friend lived….and were Easton lived the guy she gave her heart too 11 years ago only to leave him without a goodbye.
Easton is not happy when she arrives at the ranch, but it becomes clear the chemistry between them is still there…and they secretly start a casual relationship.
But Gemma does not plan to stay and as the end date approaches they are slowly getting closer and falling for one another again.
I felt so bad for Gemma as I know what its like to feel like you don’t fit in anywhere, and I prayed as I read that Easton would have the sense to make her feel like she fit in with him.
I felt so frustrated and wanted to bang their heads together and this story made me an emotional mess.
Its such a Fantastic read and I thoroughly enjoyed it,and a Wonderful edition to this series Devney Perry is becoming one of my favourite Authors to read.
I Highly Recommend it.
5 incredible Stars.
Ever since I read Gypsy King my first Devney Perry novel I have been consuming every single thing she has ever written. She is one of those authors that no matter what she writes you know it is going to be a beautiful, heart breaking and angsty novel. Wild Highway was no different!! I loved Runaway Road, book one in the Runaway series but this one was near perfection!!
Gemma went from a sixteen-year-old runaway to a multi-millionaire but after living this new life for over a decade she is over it. Gemma wants more, so after a trip to see her bestie Londyn she is off across country to see an old friend, Katherine. It has been years since she has seen Katherine but she wants to make amends for leaving her behind all those years ago. Katherine was not the only one that Gem left behind all those years ago. Gemma might be anxious to see Katherine, but she is just as nervous about seeing Easton, the boy she spent one night with but left before he woke.
Easton never thought he would see Gemma again, but fate had other plans. Going about his life on his family’s ranch Easton is just as surprised to see Gemma as she seems to see him. Easton knows that she will not be there long because that is what she does, she runs. Easton might as well make it easier for her to leave.
As Gemma and Easton become closer, we seem them both opening up to the possibility that maybe they could start something if only Gemma could see that she could have a home with Easton, he could be her home.
“Where do you fit, Gemma?”
The gentleness of his touch melted away my anger. “I don’t know.”
“Guess.”
I shrugged. “On the ranch?”
Easton shook his head and damn him, it shattered my heart.
I tried to step away but he had me pinned. “East—”
“With. Me.” He dropped his forehead to mine. “You fit right here with me.”
I devoured this story just as I do with all of Perry’s work. This story had everything you could want! Romance, angst, heart ache, humor and so much passion. I highly suggest if you want to read this baby you read Runaway Road first. Both stories tie together, and you would be 100% missing out if you didn’t read the first one! FIVE GLORIOUS STARS for this baby!
This is the second book in the Runaway Series. I thought it was very unique and Devney Perry’s storytelling was incredible, her characters are intriguing.
Gemma sold her company that she built from the ground up and her home. She went to West Virgina to visit her friend Londyn. Londyn talks her into taking driving the Cadillac rest of the way to California. On the way she makes a detour in Montana that reunites her with old acquaintances and a man who she’s never forgotten. Easton Greer never forgot Gemma but he has been mad at her for years for leaving. Sounds like a second chance romance is the works!! Especially when Easton grandma talks Gemma into staying for a while!! Here comes trouble!!
Can you guess she does not complete the road trip!! This author always delivers incredible epilogues!!
