Wild Embers is a collection of poetry and prose written by Nikita Gill. This was my first experience reading from this author and I enjoyed it a great deal. This collection is split into seven sections that are separated by an untitled poem themed with that section’s subject matter. Based on my perspective during my personal reading experience, topics include self-worth and growth, resilience and healing, rewritten Disney and fairytale princesses, self-awareness and self-acceptance, a woman’s strength and power, stunning perspectives of women in mythology (my personal favorite), and validation and empowerment. Overall, I found Wild Embers to be a well-written collection of beautiful words. Check it out.

This poetry book was full of great poems, though there were some poems that didn’t match with the others and felt out of place. Hence the 4/5 stars. But I still recommend the book!
A must-read for anyone who needs the inspiration to keep going. Well written, poignant, and relevant. Thank you, Nikita Gill! I needed this book!
Beautiful poetry, very inspirational, tragic, and even romantic at times. I love Nikita Gill’s work and am looking forward to her novel.
Poetry is single-handedly one of the hardest subjects to rate. It is subjective and is different for every person and perceived in different ways that it just becomes impossible.
Wild Embers is not just a collection of poems, it features rewriting of the famous fairytales and the stories of the beloved Greek Goddesses. Each piece is about self-love, self-discovery, empowerment, being part of revolutions and growth of our wild selves.
Gill brings the everyday women, fairytale princesses and the Goddesses to one level and speaks about topics that the womankind has experienced in some form or other.
The reason behind the 4 stars, even though I loved this book is simply because one, there were a few pieces that didn’t click with me, which is natural where poetry is concerned, and two, the repetition of the same imagery again and again.
The beauty of this collection, for me, was that even though there were pieces that did not make my favourites list, they all had, at the very least, a line or a sentence that either resonated with me or I simply loved them for the message behind them.
There are more than a handful of pieces that I loved and I don’t think I will be able to put every single one of them down. But I have all my favourites poems and phrases written down in my diary so that I can revisit them whenever I want.
I love Nikita Gill’s ideas and her passion and intensity, but I really wish the writing was better. The beauty of poetry is what can be done with small amounts of beautiful language, but Gill’s “Wild Embers” seems like all “telling” and no “showing.” I want to be moved by the words on the page as well as the ideas behind them.
