While this has elements of all my favorite tropes; secret baby/surprise pregnancy, second chance (kind of) friends to lovers (kind of), it was very much unique in that Brindle and Trace have loved each other for years. Trace has been wanting more from the start but took the fiercely independent, wild Brindle any way he could get her. Brindle is a runner and she has spent years running away from the love of her life until an unexpected surprise makes her reevaluate just what she wants from life. Luckily for her all her running hasn’t scared away Trace. Their HEA is just about everything you could ever want.
I’ve had a real hard time with this latest book by Melissa Foster. Trace Jericho and Brindle Montgomery have been on again off again bed partners for a dozen years in this second chance, surprise baby Romance.
Brindle arrives back to town in October after a 6-week spontaneous trip to Paris turned into almost 4 months. And she’s coming back with one big surprise package, allowing everyone to think she got pregnant in Paris. Trace is predictably devastated and the fireworks begin.
Trace loves Brindle, even though she refuses to let him call her his girlfriend and she only allows a relationship with him on her terms. For some reason that is never really fully explored she is fiercely independent to the point that she does not want any man in her life but she does want Trace in her bed. Upon suspecting that she was pregnant with Trace’s baby, this Elementary School teacher (and die-hard party girl) fled to Paris alone to figure out what she really wanted from Trace. Does she really want more than the moments of spontaneous combustion when they tear each other’s clothes off? Would he expect her to stop being the “Wild child” who fears being tied down?
I don’t remember ever disliking a heroine with such a visceral reaction is I’ve disliked Brindle Montgomery. Although granted there are some inconsistencies in her character and the backstory. I couldn’t figure out why Trace gave up college so that they could be together, yet if Brindle was a teacher she had to go to college to get a teaching degree. I couldn’t figure out how a school district in a very small town where everybody supposedly knows everybody else’s business would put up with a elementary school teacher who partied around as much as Brindle apparently did.
Both hero and heroine were incredibly immature. Their way of dealing with their relationship was to get together for wild, passionate encounters and then she’d pick a fight with him and he’d stomp off. During their “off time”, they’d make each other believe that the other was engaging in random encounters with other people. Both of them cheated on the other at some point, although neither were the player they wanted the other to believe. (If you followed my reviews, you’ll know I have a real issue with unreasonable heroines who behave like jerks to the hero and make him say or do something out of hurt or anger that she then makes him apologize for when she should be the one apologizing.)
All the important points of the story took place by the 50% mark so the last half of the book is a lot of talking about communicating. All together this is not one of my favorite Melissa Foster books. The HEA raises is it from a two star to three star, but it’s painful getting there.
I listened to this Audiobook and it was incredible!!Fantastic narration combined with a wonderful story and amazing and lovable characters!! I love everything about this story from beginning to end. It is so perfectly Brindle and Trace! #TeamTrindle forever!! Trace is utterly swoon worthy! Love these families too! Loving and supportive people who are always there for each other. Full of heart, soul, humor and so much love! So true to all Melissa Foster books! I loved it!!!
With the way Trails of Love ended, I’m sure I’m not the only Melissa Foster fan that has been looking forward to this book. Not only have I been invested in Brindle and Trace (#TeamTrindle) since I met the pair, but that last story really ramped up the curiosity of how things would play out.
Both Trace and Brindle upset me at the beginning of this story. They were both being extremely stubborn. I guess that’s the point, though. And it was like Trace couldn’t help but to be there for Brindle, no matter what. To her credit, Brindle doesn’t take too terribly long to open her eyes to what an amazing man she has in Trace. So if, like me, you’re afraid the push/pull will go on for too long, don’t worry. This story is more about the couple learning what it means to be loved and to love unconditionally. They realize that a grown up relationship is not quite as scary as they had thought when both parties are invested in that relationship.
As well as #TeamTrindle finding their HEA, there is a lot more flirting going on with all of their friends. Hoo boy! There is some heat between Sable and Chet and I cannot wait to see where that one goes, she’s one tough cookie! It was also fun to sit in on Brindles requested married women time, where she asked her married friends, sisters, mom, etc. to help her to be a more patient partner. They share their tips and tricks for a happy and successful relationship with her and it’s a lot of fun.
Where there’s not an overwhelming amount of depth to this story the way some of this author’s books can be, it’s still very touching and loving. I look forward to her stories and she never disappoints.

Annoyingly predictable with no real climax
Stubbornness equals a bit of drama for Brindle and Trace and their Wild, Crazy Hearts. This book gives us what we love most from a Foster book but also seemed to give just a bit more this time and I loved every minute. Trace and Brindle both made me frustrated many times in this book but you can’t help but to love them, and even more when they are together. I love the world Ms. Foster has built with all her series and that we get to catch up with all they characters we loved from past books. This was even better because the way the community came together for Trace and Brindle. This book as well as many other Foster books left me with a simile and a lighter feeling. I can’t wait for more!
Initially, I was really intrigued by the description of this book. Brindle Montgomery and Trace Jericho have had a casual, no-strings affair for over a decade. An unplanned pregnancy makes them take stock of their relationship and reimagine their future together.
Brindle irritated me pretty much from page one. She’s a teacher who left Trace and her family to spend the summer in France. She discovers as soon as she gets there that she’s pregnant. She spends three months in France trying to figure out what she is going to tell Trace.
When she returns to the U.S., she immediately goes to a party that the entire town is attending. She shows off her 3-month baby bump and people, including Trace, jump to the conclusion that she got knocked up in France. She’s irritated by their assumptions so she announces in front of the whole town that she got pregnant by some random French dude.
The way it plays out isn’t plausible for me but maybe I could put it aside if she came to her senses and told everyone the truth soon after her return. But she goes on to lie to her family and Trace’s family about who fathered the baby.
I found myself skimming the book. I couldn’t make myself care what happened after all that unnecessary drama.
I have waited and waited for Brindle and Trace’s story. They have loved, fought, and made up so many times that I just knew that when they finally accepted their love for each other it would be so perfect, so marvelous, and so steamy. Melissa Foster wrote the perfect story for these two. I cried I laughed, I shook my head, and I couldn’t stop reading.
Brindle never lies, until she tells the biggest lie to Trace. As she backtracks through the lie, works, to tell the truth to Trace and her family, she learns so much about herself and what she wants out of life. It was wonderful to see her come around, find herself and see how it leads to her happiness. Trace also has to change his ways, come around to loving Brindle forever, and not let her push him away when the going gets a little tough.
I loved how Melissa Foster showed how it truly takes two to make a relationship work. She didn’t place blame on any one character when things didn’t go smoothly. She shows how compromise is important to a happy relationship and that relationships are not easy but they are so worth putting the work into.
Twelve years they have been together, on and off again and again. Now Brindle needs to break the news to Trace (and her family) of her pregnancy. This is a lot to face for a girl like her. She knows her family will be there for her. But Trace… she does not want him to feel obligated to marry her or to love the baby. He had clearly told her he did not want commitment or children. So her future was definitely hard to picture.
Trace and Brindle are that couple that will fight all the time. They are both stubborn, always in control, and seldom quiet about what bothers them. Set in their own ways, the love they feel for each other is about to be tested to the limit. A lot of growing up will have to happen!
This is an endearing love story full of emotion and the reality of facing an uncertain future.
I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thanks to the author for sharing this book with me.
It’s been a really, really long time since I started a book, got exactly 19 pages in and had to fight with myself to not read the last chapter to see how it ended. That is exactly what happened with this book. It was so entertaining that I read it in less than 2 days.
I highly recommend it!
3.5 stars
I’m seriously in love with this series! After meeting Brindle and Trace in Trails of Love I was excited for their story. But this second chance romance missed the mark for me. It rode a little flat, where I was waiting for something to happen. Brindle and Trace love each other so passionately, they burn so hot like fire. So where does that take us? Their story is sweet, but I think I was expecting a little more wild, a little more excitement.
I did love their characters, I love Melissa’s writing and I can’t wait for the next book.
Since Trials of Love and that little tid-bit we get about Brindle I have been dying to get my hands on her and Trace’s story! And boy was it a good one. Brindle has returned from a 6 week stay in Paris where she went to gather her thoughts and realises that Trace is the one for her – they have been friends with many benefits since their teenage years, but neither wanting a commitment. Or so it seemed to Brindle anyway – it turns out that Trace has loved her from the start and they only have the kind of relationship they have because he believes it is what Brindle wants and he just wants her to be happy.
When she gets home from Paris pregnant, Trace assumes its someone else’s and Brindle does nothing to make him think otherwise – I really wanted to smack her upside her head for even doing that! I get she was hurt when the first thing Trace asks her is ‘who’s is it?’ but if she has just been open from the start the whole mess they go through in this book would have been over by page 1! But they both do a lot of growing up in this book and at times they fight like teenagers again instead of the adults they are supposed to be – hence Brindle’s initial reaction to lie about Trace being the father.
They go through a lot to get their HEA, but Trace really stood out for me in this book. He was willing to step up and be a father to the child when he was told he wasn’t the father, because he loved Brindle so much – everyone could see they were meant to be together, it just took Brindle the longest to realise it was what she wanted all along.
5 STARS
This author is one that can get me to read hers even if I have not read any in this series. Brindle and Trace take us through this one with it being a delight since they have been friends forever. The one down fall I seen though in this one is why did it take them so long and all the wasted time. I say that as the the title says it is very apt for these two. They give you a crazy ride that sometimes you do not know if you are coming or going. The bundle that comes into this is a added addition that has you cheering them on too. When you read a roller coaster ride you get all the perks. Was it worth the trip? Only the reader can find out the answer.
Brindle Montgomery and Trace Jericho have been on and off again lovers for years. When she popped up pregnant at the end of the last book, I knew her story with Trace was going to be interesting. Brindle has always been a wild child and didn’t want to settle down. Her and Trace are both stubborn and neither could admit their true feelings to the other. Both had some growing up to do and needed work on their communication skills. A misunderstanding leads to a lie which makes things even more complicated. Thankfully, they realize what they really mean to each other before it’s too late. #TeamTrindle #TeamTrindleFilly #TeamTrindleTrio
I have SO.MUCH.LOVE for these characters! Brindle and Trace are combustible together! Like, feel the lust burn through the pages, type of scorching! Brindle is Trace’s untamable Mustang girl. They have been each other’s lovers foorrr.eeeevvv.eeeerr!! And I can’t even tell you how ecstatic I was that they finally get their story! And whoooo-boy, it’s an emotional one! I mean, come on, a baby bump changes everything, especially when the father of said baby bump is in question! You will LOVE everything about these two! Their fierce passion, their desire to be with each other, and even their arguments! I think their make-up sessions are my favorite parts! And don’t forget the supporting families! Family is everything! And also, because I can, #teamtrindle!!
Melissa Foster you are a brand new author for me who just became an automatic one-click favorite of mine with one fantastic book! I must read everything now! Holy Cowboy, I have been Traceified. This couple gave me all the feels and I was hooked from beginning to end. Brindle and Trace are a sexy, refreshing and realistic couple I could not get enough of. The surprises, the compromises and the sass had me rooting them on and making me want to fall in love all over again! I want to be Trace’s mustang because I love me a loyal, protective and determined cowboy who fights for his soulmate. Melissa, this story is full of fiery passion, hot as hell love, and everlasting devotion.

Wild, Crazy Hearts was the fourth book in the Braden’s & Montgomery’s: Pleasant Hill & Oak Falls series by Melissa Foster.
Brindle Montgomery and Trace Jericho had been on again and off again with no strings attached since they were thirteen and fifteen respectively. They were now twenty eight and thirty and stuck in the same revolving cycle. Both were gorgeous, sexy, independent, loyal, funny and stubborn. To the outside world, they were two peas in a pod and perfect for each other.
Wild, Crazy Hearts picked up where the last book left off and boy did it leave us with a hornets nest! No spoilers so no big reveals, but I’ll just say that I really liked the progression. It wasn’t the normal push and pull and I thought I might not like it since they had been together over a decade and still not committed – I mean really if you haven’t committed by now, how could it be sincere. But Foster built it with a creative perspective with numerous life lessons that kept me interested. I also enjoyed getting to know the real Trace. He was easy to fall in love with and a worthy book boyfriend.

Trace & Brindle have been on & off since they were old enough to sense the chemistry. Their immature blow ups & jealousy ridden fights were part of the way they communicated. They had to learn they were meant to be & learn a new mature way to communicate. I loved reading about their relationship & how it grew & matured. The best part to me was the way their families interacted & were there for each other. The thing with living in a small town is the gossip & interference. Ms. Foster did a good job of showing it in the good natured, supportive way that we prefer to see it as. The entire town had been watching their 20 year courtship & felt they also had a stake in it. I can’t wait for the next story!
Sweet, sexy and satisfying! We have been waiting for this book ever since Melissa Foster teased us with this surprise baby twist at the end of the previous book, and it didn’t disappoint. It’s fast paced, filled with drama and as always in this series, lots of family love surrounding them. Enjoyed their story!
Brindle Montgomery left the world behind for a whirlwind trip to Paris, and now that she’s home sporting a baby bump, she’s got some explaining to do!
Trace Jericho has been playing Brindle’s game for too long now. He wants more from their relationship than she’s been offering, and it’s come down to the time for it to be now or never!
