Hunter Blake is baseball’s bad boy. He’s wild, with a reputation a mile long. He’s fodder for both the sports and gossip pages, but Hunter has a secret even the tabloids don’t know: he’s madly in love with country singer Marlowe Story and has been for months. He’ll do anything for her, including staying married after they drunkenly say “I do” at a Vegas wedding chapel during a weekend hookup. … Under the guise of helping both of their careers, he’s happy to stay in the fake marriage, especially because his feelings for her are anything but fake. And now is his chance to show Marlowe what they could have.
Marlowe might sing about love and fairy tales, but she doesn’t believe in happily ever after, especially when it comes to bad boy Hunter. Even if he is the sexiest man she’s ever met, and even if their chemistry is off the charts. When she can’t seem to stay out of his bed, she convinces herself that she can give him her body without giving him her heart. But their fake marriage starts to feel awfully real as she glimpses a sensitive, artistic, vulnerable side of Hunter he keeps hidden from everyone but her.
Because deep down, this bad boy is broken, and only Marlowe’s love can heal him.

This is the second book in the series and I really enjoyed reading it. Hunter is a bad boy and is one of the Longhorns Players but he was always getting into trouble. When Marlowe calls and asks him to go to Vegas to spend some time with her, he can’t deny her as he is in love with her but she will not do commitment. Marlowe is a famous Country Singer but he latest album is a capo so she has gone to Vegas to get away from all the pressure. Things are not what they seem with Marlowe she has gone through so much in her life that she keeps a wall up to protect herself. Will Hunter be able to get Marlowe to lower her walls to let him in or is he destined for more heartbreak. Wow I really loved this book and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. There are twists and turns along with connection, chemistry and so many emotions that my heart went out to everything that they were going through. Tara is a brilliant author and talented writer and I definitely recommend you read her books as they are so worth reading.
I Voluntarily Reviewed an ARC Copy Of This Book.
Oh, goodness, I LOVED this one!
Marlowe and Hunter’s story was even better than I hoped it’d be (from the teensy bit of a hint of it that we got from book one, Stealing Home ). Honestly, I didn’t even read the blurb before picking it up, so you should have heard the it’s a drunken Vegas wedding! YESSSSSSSS! squeal I gave when Marlowe woke up the next morning and I realized just before she did what had happened. (I’m pretty sure my son won’t forget it. He thought there was something wrong 😉 When will he learn that sometimes when mom reads she makes noises?)
Anyway…
I really, really, really liked Marlowe and Hunter. We got to see Hunter in book one, where it was pretty clear that the guy was his own worst enemy, which–yikes–was really hard to watch at times. (Did I want to slap him or hug him? Sometimes both at the same time!) Even though Marlowe had plenty of her own issues, by the time we get to their relationship black moment, it really was all him–realistically him, but definitely him. I kinda felt like I was right there with Marlowe, eating ice cream and drinking wine and attempting to get over the big (gorgeous, darn him!) lug…
I honestly wasn’t sure if Ms Wyatt was going to be able to bring these two crazy kids together in the end, but she did and she did it in a way that was both 100% realistic and absolutely perfect for this couple. And along the way she gave us hints at (two?) future books (Abby and Jake for sure, fingers crossed that Javi and Aerin are coming too… :)) that I am going to be so here for–I may not be a baseball fan IRL, but with this series? Bring them on!
Wild Card is the second book in the series, but it would work just fine as a standalone. Do yourself a favor, though, and read both books–you won’t be sorry!
Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
It’s about baseball. It’s about a hotshot baseball player who screws up a lot, mostly off the field. It’s about the love of his life who has no idea she’s the love of his life. It’s about waking up one morning in Vegas not really remembering everything that happened the night before. It’s about making what happened that fateful night stick.
Wild Card is a heartfelt story of trying to prove yourself worthy but failing horribly. Hunter has tried just about everyone’s patience with his self-destructive behavior. Can he ever figure his crap out? Marlowe vowed she’d never get married, never let a man in again, and definitely not mess things up with her best friend by falling in love with him. Most of all, though, Wild Card is just plain fun. Oh, and it’s about baseball!!!
Hunter and Marlowe, book two of the Dallas Longhorns series. I really liked this one. Book one was great but this book has a different feel to it. It’s a standalone with only small mentions of characters from book one. Hunter is all in with Marlowe’s past being one of the major factors in their HEA.
Really liked the storyline. Skimmed through some of the explicit sex scenes.
3.5 stars
Wild Card it the second book in Tara Wyatt’s Dallas Longhorn Series. I was excitied to read Hunter and Marlowe’s story. It did take me a couple of chapters to get into this story, however once I did I thought it was a nice, fun and easy read. Baseball player Hunter, is a nice guy, who seems to Self-sabotage himself. He’s been keeping quiet of his little hook ups with Country singer Marlowe. When the both end up in partying in Vegas, and wake up shackled to one another. Will this be another thing they will fail at? Or will they fight for one another? Read it and find out!
Looking forward to reading Jake and Anna’s story next in Caught Looking.
Move over Dylan McCormick because Hunter Blake has officially taken your spot as my favorite Longhorn! Whew yall! Once again I can’t stop thinking about these books! I am completely over the moon with this series and so far each book has gotten even better! Each book brings all the baseball you could ask for and equal amounts of steam and chemistry between the couples! I am OBSESSED!
When I say I fell hard for Hunter Blake, I mean head over heels, blushing alongside with Marlowe, and feeling ALL the butterflies. Tara has a knack for writing swoony heroes that will stay with you and Hunter is definitely going down in the books as one of my all-time favorite book boyfriends…or should I say, husband? I was a little wary that he was going to be a complete playboy after seeing his charm first hand in Stealing Home, but that charm is saved for one woman and he delivers it in bunches in this one! Too bad it’s not that easy with Marlowe. My heart went out to this heroine. She has been through so much and she so desperately wants to open herself up to Hunter. You can see their love for each other splayed out within the pages and it’s beautiful. By the end of this book, my heart was so full of love for these two and I don’t know if I will ever be able to get over them!
I’m only on book two and I have no idea how I’m going to be able to move on from this series! This series is totally a hidden sports romance gem and if you are looking into reading it DO IT! You won’t regret it! It will have you feeling all kinds of emotions and not ever wanting it to end! And Marlowe and Hunter are definitely not a couple you want to miss out on!
4.5 stars – Getting Out of Their Own Way – Another story where Wyatt addresses another sensitive subject with tact and grace. Marlowe and Hunter have ghosts, Marlowe more so than Hunter initially, to get passed before they can truly find each other. It’s poignant yet empowering. When neither was looking, love happened. There are sweet and bittersweet moments throughout their story and their chemistry is ever present. It takes a while but when the ghosts are conquered, or at least diminished so they no longer hold either hostage, it’s wonderful!
This is the second book in the series and I am hooked.
Hunter and Marlowe relationship changes after a crazy night in Vegas that ends up with rings on their fingers. Instead of getting the marriage annulled they stay together for their careers, but in time feeling grown, passion and desire ignite. Can they make this work or will they be call out.
Their story will yank you in and keep you o the edge of your seat to the last page.

The storyline was great and the characters were so well created that Hunter and Marlowe kept me turning the pages until the very last page!
Took me a little while to get into it, but when I did I loved it, it was slow and easy and had enough going on to keep me hooked. Marlowe and Hunter in the deep end, but can they swim

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I really enjoyed this story about Marlowe and Hunter. Hunter is a center fielder and bad boy and Marlowe is country’s good girl. They have been friends with benefits for a year when she calls and needs him to visit her in Vegas. He’s been falling in love with her for a while but it’s having a hard time to get her to go along. After a drunk wedding they give it a shot to help both of their reputations. But they both have a way of getting in their own way. But great HEA in the end.

Hunter and Marlowe get married after a night of drinking in Vegas. While they had been secretly dating, it came a surprise when it hit the papers they had gotten married. Hunter and Marlowe both were in love with the other but didn’t say anything because they were supposed to be casual. After a bet and drinking in Vegas, they are surprised when they wake up married. They decide to give it a go as it will be good for their careers. Hunter being a suspended baseball player and Marlowe the good girl country singer with not so great record sales. This couple had chemistry from the beginning and I was hooked and invested in this couple. They kept my attention and I loved seeing them make their “marriage of convenience” work.
I loved their story and while this is my first book by this author, it will not be my last… She can Write!! I am going to go back and read the first book in the series and can’t wait for the next Longhorn to get his story.

Hunter and Marlowe belong together if only they would realize it. Sexy love scenes, twists of fate and snappy dialogue make this a super fun read.
One night in Vegas changes everything for Marlowe and Hunter. Hunter is suspended from his baseball team for his parting ways and Marlowe’s career has started to become old and she is ready for a change. When the news breaks of there sudden wedding hits the media outlets it changes everything for these two. The more time that Hunter is around Marlowe the more he wants their marriage to be real and yet it is hard for Marlowe to trust that Ethan won’t hurt her. But when Harlowe learns the truth about there marriage will it change things for these two. Can Hunter get Marlowe to take a chance on them? This was a great book and I finished reading it in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down. The chemistry between Hunter and Marlowe is off the charts hot and intense.

I liked that Hunter and Marlowe started out as just a once in a while thing until they meet in Vegas and end up married. I am glad they stayed married and were able to get their happy ending together.

This is the story of Marlowe, a country music singer and Hunter a pro baseball player. They go to Vegas for a fun weekend and wake up married. With all the publicity and the boost to their careers, they decide to stay married. Only Marlowe’s not sure if she should trust him. I enjoyed this fun, steamy romance.
