FIRST IN A NEW SERIES!Known as the wicked witch of Russian fairy tales, Baba Yaga is not one woman, but rather a title carried by a chosen few. They keep the balance of nature and guard the borders of our world, but don’t make the mistake of crossing one of them… life she left behind long ago. Posing as an herbalist and researcher, she travels the country with her faithful (mostly) dragon-turned-dog in an enchanted Airstream, fulfilling her duties as a Baba Yaga and avoiding any possibility of human attachment.
But when she is summoned to find a missing child, Barbara suddenly finds herself caught up in a web of deceit and an unexpected attraction to the charming but frustrating Sheriff Liam McClellan.
Now, as Barbara fights both human enemies and Otherworld creatures to save the lives of three innocent children, she discovers that her most difficult battle may be with her own heart…

I loved this book, and I really look forward to reading the rest of the series. The world building was great, and if I could, I would live there. The exciting storyline had me flying through the pages. I didn’t want this story to end. I wanted to spend more time with these characters, especially the dragon that turns into a dog. What a perfect creature! Where can I get one of those? 😉
I want to be Barbara, badass woman and Baba Yaga, when I grow up! Barbara shows up to help find 3 missing children but it’s not easy as Barbara runs into someone from the otherworld, townspeople who are wary and a sheriff she does not want to find attractive. Liam has secrets as well, a baby who died and a wife who is missing. There otherworld is magical and scary and the ending was amazing. I loved young you can call be Babs because its short for Barbara and I’m short. Awwww. Looking forward for book 2.
Deborah Blake blends the magical world with the non-magical well in this story about a Baba Yaga named Barbara Yager. Barbara, in the course of her duty as a Baba Yaga, ends up in Sheriff Liam McClellan’s town and it soon becomes apparent that she was called there – someone from the magical realm she protects the doorway to is wreaking havoc in the non-magical world. Things get a tad crazy and Deborah Blake keeps the reader on their toes as twists and turns abound. I felt horrible for Liam a time or two and was relieved when all was wrapped up with a little bow on top.
I enjoyed the story overall.
I loved this paranormal romance and can’t wait to read the rest in the series! I don’t know much about the mythological character Baba Yaga, but I do know I loved Barbara Yager! I liked all the magical elements and going to different worlds. I also liked that there was a mystery to unravel. The story was quick moving with a lot going on. I can’t wait to meet back up with these characters soon!
I really enjoyed this first book in the Baba Yaga Series. It introduced me to the Russian Legend that has my interest to look further into it. Back to Wickedly Dangerous by Deborah Blake, the characters and the weaving of this legend into the story had me staying up late because I did not want to put it down or stop. The mystery of the missing children has all the town looking and talking about the newcomer to town. I love the airstream with the moving door. The dragon disguised as a dog that guards the water of life. HIs attitude is perfect. There is the underlying romance but mostly the book is focused on the mystery and magic of the other world and trying to find the missing children while making sure no others go missing. You will get your HEA in this book, and it leaves a little tidbit that peaks your interest for book 2. Oh and did I mention Bikers? yep there are Bikers who love their pie!!
I’m Hooked!
A wonderful start to a promising new series (well it’s new to me). One I happily look forward to reading.
The narrator did extremely well, giving life to all the various characters. She did the male voices with the same level of artistry as she did the women.
It’s not easy to pick my favorite character as they were all great. But Baba Yaga’s personality earned a special place in my heart. I loved that while she used her head, and projected a calm demeanor, she was also a bit bloodthirst at times.
Her big dog who could also be a small dragon was awesome as well.
I highly recommend this book in either format (ebook/audiobook) to anyone who loves a good magical romance.
