Nominated for the prestigious romance Rita award!“Rice is a master storyteller. A wonderful blend of humor, pathos, adventure, and charm, this page-turner is book one in Rice’s promising Rebellious Sons series.” —Shelley Mosley, BooklistJohn Fitzhugh Wyckerly has been the spare heir all his life, supporting himself with gambling and charm. The news that he’s inherited the bankrupt title of Earl … gambling and charm. The news that he’s inherited the bankrupt title of Earl of Danecroft shatters his indolent world. Even penniless, he’s always paid his debts, but now the estate’s creditors are closing in. He can fake his death and run for cover, or accept overwhelming responsibility and find a rich wife, one who will also accept his illegitimate terror of a daughter.
On his way to find an heiress, he meets Abigail Merriweather, who is neither rich nor aristocratic, but she can tame The Terror and stomp cockroaches. Unfortunately, she needs a wealthy, powerful man who will fight her father’s executor and retrieve her four half-siblings. When an unexpected inheritance falls into Abby’s lap, she sets out for London to seek a lawyer.
Can Fitz charm his practical Abby into trusting him to save her siblings when it’s doubtful that he can even save himself? And can Abby surrender reason and logic for the folly of love offered by a man who can have any woman he wants but insists he wants only her?

Loved this book. A lively must read book!
Wicked Wyckerly by Patricia Rice is an outstanding historical romance. Ms. Rice has provided readers with a well-written book. I love the characters in this story. Fitz has just become the 7th Earl of Danecroft, a bankrupt estate and a sea of people wanting money from him. Abigail is a country girl, happy with her crops but now needs a man to help her get her young siblings back home where they belong. Fitz and Abigail’s story is loaded with drama, humor, spice, action and a little suspense. I enjoyed reading Wickey Wyckerly and look forward to reading my next book by Patricia Rice. Wicked Wyckerly is book 1 of the Rebellious Sons Series but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
fun story
Was very entertaining,cute!!
I doubt this is historically accurate, but I loved the interaction between the characters. Nice conflict also….he needs an heiress, she needs someone terribly respectable to rescue her family. Neither is right for the other, so of course the only one they want is the other. It is interesting how it resolves
Enjoyed the characters and story line as it developed,
I really enjoy reading a book that takes me away…you know, a dry Calgon moment.
Unusual storyline. High interest
a little long but good
It was packed with adventure and romance. Great combination in the series.
I enjoyed it to the point of missing three appointments being so deep into the book. I’m saving it to repeat the read when i;m in a bind!
I really enjoyed this book. It was well written and tons of fun. Loved the hero and heroine. How much fun to read a well written story that was original and funny.
I ended up reading till the wee hours of the morning. The ending wasn’t predictable which was good.
Loved this one. Very romantic.
Loved the characters; different but drawn to each other. Always amazed at how society and life have evolved over the centuries. I especially enjoy to read of English life in the early 1800s.
Was such a turn around story. The characters were so different.
I loved reading this book and the characters were so believable. This shows that even though someone is thought to be beyond reproach there are some things that are still not quite visible.
When an earl is unknowingly dropped into Abby’s yard with his unhappy daughter, Abby is not totally convince helping is the best idea… but the child’s needs outweigh her concerns. Wicked Wyckerly was such a delightful book to read. I appreciate that there was romance and a few intense scenes but the book was more focused on telling a story than on describing multiple sexual encounters. The story was very well told with a number of twists and turns and I did not figure out the ending beforehand. Well done Patricia Rice!
Very good dialog, which I love. Holds your interest.
Fun book to read
