What if a man could command you to do anything and you couldn’t make yourself say no?Some people go through life without encountering evil. Zorie is not one of the lucky ones. As a teenager, she escaped … without encountering evil. Zorie is not one of the lucky ones. As a teenager, she escaped a kidnapper. Now she’s stronger, smarter, and she avoids the wolves.
Until she meets Reuben and her avoidance strategy is chaff in the wind. He’s a collector and a mesmer, with the ability to control certain women at will. Zorie is to be his remote-controlled plaything.
She’s been collected.
Power corrupts.
Absolute power? Absolutely terrifying.
Two men are the key to Zorie freeing herself from Reuben.
Grimm Heller’s reasons are hidden in his past and his soul.
Mister Black’s reasons are simpler. He wants her for his own to make her into a weapon.
No matter which way she turns, is she simply choosing a different evil?
“Unique, scary, mesmerising, and a read I would recommend over and over again to people who love their dark reads. Be prepared to be shocked, turned on and want to do damage, be prepared for this book to take over your life till you’ve finished it. Yes it’s that good. A six star read easily for me.”

WARNING
This Dark Hearts trilogy explores horror and thriller territory. You’ll find some very graphic scenes of violence, torture, death, and sex, oozing from the pages. In the first book you won’t find anything more than hints of romance, as the romance is on drip-feed speed. The main man, the antihero, may not even end up being who most readers expect him to be.
With DARK HEARTS, I wanted to step outside conventional romance. I wanted no cliffhangers, yet endings that make you curious about the next story, and a story ARC similar to some urban fantasy series. Zorie, the heroine will seriously kick some ass, but she won’t always be on top, because being on the bottom can be fun…for readers…and maybe for her. The last book, Wicked Hunt, will be a very, VERY twisted romance. There may be sweetness, but there will also be tragedy and torture, and hopefully some screaming readers.more
Very dark.

Hmm…ladies (and possibly gentlemen) I don’t know how to start my review of this book.
I don’t even know how to break it down…but I’ll give it a go.
It was really hard for me to get into the groove of the writing style of this book. It felt ragged and sporadic. It took me a while to adjust to and I’m still not sure how else to describe it.
The story itself was great. It was dark and taboo and dirty and thought-provoking. Everything I love in a book but I feel that the characters were missing some depth and it wasn’t all that clear what was going on in the story…other than the sex. Those parts were extremely clear, lol.
I had to flip back and forth to re-read a few pages here and there before I finally understood where the story was actually heading and what was going on.
I’ll be honest, I must have put this book down as a DNF at least three times but ended up picking it up again because I loved the idea of the story.
ZORINA – I felt awful for this poor woman. She was on a wee summer holiday by herself, minding her own business and bam! This man tells her to get in the car with him and she has no choice but to do it!
The guy can impose his will on her and make her do what he wants. Not only that but he can make her feel what he wants her to. The thought of that just makes me feel…ick. Not only does he rape this poor woman’s body but her mind too.
He and his two friends in the car have her do some kinky s**t y’all. There’s pain and blood at the end and Zorina goes home just utterly disgusted, confused and scared as hell. Quite rightly so. The mind feck had her orgasming like a crazy person.
Knowing he’ll be back for her tomorrow she high-tails it back home cutting her holiday short and spends the next year trying to recover emotionally from the incident.
Just when she thinks she might be over it and goes on a date the sicko finds her!
From this point on her life is not her own and it is all kinds of messed-up.
REUBEN – What the actual f**k? He is a sick son of a bitch, that’s for sure. He finds Zorina one night and knows right away that she is one of the women he will be able to control and so he takes her back to the car to play.
Next night he goes back for more only to find out that she’s run off!
Because of that he then becomes obsessed with her and spends the next year tracking her down to make her pay.
This guy is loaded and has some messed up and cruel friends. Friends who like to watch him abuse women and the things he makes Zorina do to herself and with others is disturbing, to say the least.
MR BLACK – This is the one character I had a hard time with. I couldn’t get any kind of vibe from him. Not enough to make a picture in my head really.
Like I know a bit of mystery is good but I couldn’t pick up any personality from him.
Anyway, he is the original “Mesmer” (a man that can control the minds of certain women) and is watching all of the others he may have inadvertently created, to see whether he needs to kill them or nor for stepping out of line.
When he meets Zorina he realises there’s something different about her. She can almost shake off his and Reuben’s will. So he’s like ”Maybe I can use her”.
There was very little description in this book in order for you to get an idea of the kind of man he is, other than a dom.
He’s wealthy and dominant and that’s about it.
GRIMM – Okay, so this is the one character that piqued my interest. I mean, who wouldn’t be intrigued by a huge, hunky, muscular, tattooed librarian?
This is the man that Zorina went on a date with but then ran away from when Reuben found her again. He has taken quite a liking to her and guesses that she is in some kind of trouble.
He offers to try and help her but they run into trouble when she physically can’t talk about what these men did to her.
Sadly, he didn’t appear nearly as much as I wanted him to until the very last pages!
The best part of this book was the last chapter. No joke! It almost made me want to read the next in the series, but not quite.
3 STARS
When you read a book by Cari Silverwood, you know it will be different. It is dark, gritty and it gives you plenty to think about. Zorie loses part of herself when she meets Reuben, time and events are blacked out. As a reader you don’t know what happened either, so you are at much at a loss as she is. This makes it even more intense. I can’t wait to read what happens in the next book.
