When I picked up Wicked Lies Boys Tell , I didn’t realize Penn and Cope, the main characters, were only 18. Despite their young age, their story was emotionally charged, angsty, and heartfelt. From friends to enemies and then to lovers, I was truly blown away by this exceptional intense, slow burning and steamy journey.
Penn grew up with strict rules and unattainably high standards bestowed by his father. To everyone, he was the poster perfect boy, but he was truly lonely and empty inside because he had lost his best friends due to an accidental kiss when they were sixteen. Never felt any affection from his father, Copeland was hiding underneath all the tattoos and bad boy personal. For the past two years, he was angry and confused about both Penn’s kiss and his feelings for his once best friend resulted from that kiss.
Penn’s longing and sadness due to the unrequited love and loss of his best friend broke my heart. The fights and tension between the two of them were painful to watch. After they opened their eyes and be true to themselves, the chemistry and passion they share were combustible. I also applauded to the author’s expertise in capturing the confusion, doubt, and struggle associated with coming of age and first loves.
I absolutely enjoyed this heartfelt MM romance. If you are looking for a book that would give you the intense feel associated with coming of age/first love, this is the one!
I voluntarily reviewed an advance complimentary copy of this book. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Oh, K Webster you have outdone yourself with this one! I was mesmerized from the beginning all the way to the wonderful ending with your spectacular storytelling and to-die-for characters in these two beautiful young men. You have giving us a story that is timely and telling of the enormous social struggles of being outside what is largely considered normal and acceptable. I felt every heart-wrenching emotion as Penn suffered in anguish when Copeland turns his back on their childhood friendship after Penn went to far. The angst was palpable as Penn pined for his friend and the love he felt when he was rejected. It was so emotional when an event finally brought these two longtime friends back together and they began to repair their relationship to once again be the friends they were as youngsters struggling with their horrible families and the abuse inflicted. Penn was so patient and understanding as he let Cope determine the kind of relationship they would have. I loved Cope’s journey from angry closed off bad boy to the realization that real love is not only emotional but sexual too when he let Penn in. As these two settled into their new reality it was not smooth sailing as their evil dads got involved, but nothing was going to separate Penn and Cope. The teen angst was there but so appropriate for the story and not overdone and while the sex scenes are somewhat graphic they’re just as extension of the love the characters had for each other. I am always enthralled by this author’s fantastic love stories between men (Dane and Nick are my favs) and the sizzling sex that happens between these smoking hot guys that always includes a loving side to the relationship. Penn and Cope are now two of my favorites. I loved the ending and the epilogue was so good and the perfect closure for the dreamy Penn and Copeland. Don’t let the theme of this story turn you away because you will miss out on a truly dazzling love story from this spectacular author. Loved it! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.
I’m in love with my best friend. Lie. I’m in love with my enemy. Truth. But they’re the same. They. Are. The. Same. Lines in my world are blurry between fantasy and reality. Truth and lies. I love a good male/male romance and this one will go down as one of my favorites of that genre and of K. Websters. You are going to fall so in love with Cope and Penn. They have the most amazing story to tell. Penn McAlister and Cope Justice were friends when they were young. Childhood best friends actually. From the time they were babies till the moment that Penn steals a kiss from Cope they where in each other’s worlds. That kiss however ruined it all. Two years pass and these two once best of friend are now sworn enemies. Cope is not gay and you can feel the animosity pouring out of him. However when Penn breaks his wrist in a fight Cope is there to step in and take care of him. This is the first step in mending a once amazing friendship and possibly more. Can these two ever be more or are they destined to hurt each other again? You have to read to find out but I am tell you it is such a great book that your going to be thinking about it days later. The words flow from the book like magic for your soul and you will fall in love with everything about this book. K Webster always sucks me into her books and this one I know will stay with me forever and I will read it again and again as the years go by.
Wicked Lies Boys Tell is a M/M young adult friends to enemies to lovers story that pulls at your heart strings from the very first pages. Penn and Copeland were the very best of friends, but Penn had a secret and one day that secret came out and it blew Cope right out of the water. Cope was not prepared for his best friend to be gay and instead of being a good friend he became angry and treated him like crap. Eventually finding their way back to each other, the healing began and the door to all the mixed up feeling both were having came to a slow burn for each other and then a love affair made for fairy tales. Along the way however the drama of high school and the intensity of emotions by everyone close to Penn and Cope made this story very engaging. Loved how in the end, expectations and dreams became reality and all those around them acceptable the inevitable and all is as it should be!! Very well written Ms. Webster.
Loved this so much!
The sexual tension between Cope & Penn was thick and delicious. Their chemistry was off the charts. Their love and protection of each other was a beautiful thing. These two… *swoon*.
The narrators were absolutely perfect for this story.
My only ever complaint is that’s it’s never enough for me! I want more no matter the length, but this one will suck you in from the start and keep you there till your done. this was such heartfelt story about Love. How they fault for their friendship which was always based out of Love is what made this story so touching. I was so invest on these two!
I love getting lost on her stories with her characters. There’re are always so easy and so much fun! They always become family! They become real. You can’t help not feel what they’re feeling!
This story was just perfect! I loved it! It’s so freaking HOT and Sexy. She truly delivers and never disappoints! This is another Must Read from K!
I am completely in LOVE with Penn and Copeland! Wicked Lies Boys Tell is MM done so freaking right! Well really, it’s all young love/enemies-to-lovers/friends-to-lovers done so freaking right! This story is about two young men fighting like hell to truly find themselves with clarity and confidence. Their struggles and heartache as “teenagers wading through all the crap plus more that teenagers have to wade through” are written with relevance full of emotion. I love Penn and Cope equally, especially with their insecurities and flaws. 5 stars for this beautiful, angsty, steamy, young love perfection!

Unbelievable
Wicked Lies Boys Tell is a full-length MM romance by the talented and jaw-dropping author, K. Webster. Webster spellbinds you with her wicked thoughts and no, she doesn’t lie one ounce about the feelings and emotions she incorporates into this one heck of a book.
Penn McAlister and Copeland Justice take you on a friends to enemies to lovers adventure. Full of emotion and self-finding angst that will have your heart pumping in a matter of seconds. “Best fucking friends. Like always. Two tornadoes. But instead of bouncing off each other and wreaking havoc alongside the other, we’ve become one. Unstoppable.”
I loved every moment of this story. Wow; there were moments that had me on edge and I teetered off the cliff, but other times my heart soared with the unmistakingly erotic nature that engulfs you.
Penn and Cope fight themselves, and the world on what is right/wrong in a society that dictates on how one should act. They both go through battles and to witness this journey is amazing. “I found someone better,” he hisses. “But God was cruel and made him incapable of loving me back.”
Bravo to Webster for the wonderful and heartfelt story.
4.5 stars
Penn McAlister and Copeland Justice grew up together as best friends. An incident pulled them apart and it had been eating them ever since. However, things were about to change whether they’re ready or not.
Before starting this book, I didn’t realize how young the characters were. There was a lot of drama, external and internal but I didn’t mind it because it added angst to the story.
I loved both Cope and Penn together especially in the earlier part of the story. The palpable tension between them was both painful and hot. My favorite part was the “in denial experimentation” scenes. Amusingly arousing lol!
I enjoyed the overall storyline and I liked the secondary issues with the parents. However, I felt there was not enough background story to explain certain actions by the characters. Also, the ending was quite abrupt.
Wicked Lies Boys Tell is a story of embracing one’s true self. It would appeal to readers looking for a New Adult M/M romance with heat and angst.
Phenomenal from beginning to end! Penn and Cope were undeniably not your typical snobby run of the mill highschool rich kids living in an upperclass society! Behind closed doors no one knew the ugly truths that went on in their families but them.
One stupid mistake on Penn’s part through a monkey wrench in their friendship dividing the two of them for 2 years! The brutality of what each other endure through those two years no one ever knew included each other. Grins and jokes is what their friends and the outside world saw the pain and suffering is what they hide from everyone!
Another horrible decision and a ruined future brought the two friends together again but one of them had a hidden truth from the other.
A truth of longing, wanted and deep desire. When their relationship takes a different turn the explosive desires is like a match to a fire! But the most dangerous explosions is about to hit both of them harder then even they anticipated.
I loved this book!! I couldnt put it down once I started it!!!
Wicked Lies Boys Tell is the M/M, friends to lovers, frenemies to lovers BOOK to read. GAH! Y’all this book was EVERYTHING. Yes, it was super hot because… Well, Cope and Penn! But this book blurs the lines, You or at least I didn’t care about the fact that it’s two dudes. I was so drawn into their story. I was mesmerized. It left me speechless, reeling and warm in my little southern heart. Seriously, I had the most fabulous book hangover for days. This delicious tale of forbidden love by K. Webster is a must read for fans of M/M or really just fans of book amazingness in general.
“There was no gay or straight. No right or wrong.
Just us. Penn and Cope. Always tethered to each other by some invisible force.”
Penn McAlister and Copeland Justice have known each other for most all of their lives, growing up and living next door to one another. They were the bestest of friends and as close as brothers. Both used to the pressures of living with the tyrants they had for fathers. Throughout childhood and as they become teens they became dependant on each other for various things in their lives that only each other could provide They were each others stability, comfort and protection. That’s how close they were. Along the way some of those lines started to blur and feelings started to change for Penn. A mistake was made one night when they were sixteen that leads to the destruction of their friendship, and Penn is now forced to watch his best friend a boy that owns his heart move on without him and spew hatred at him for the next two years.
This story is a series of flashbacks mixed in with current time. An event brings Penn and Cope back together after two years apart. This starts a complicated journey of Cope and Penn navigating the reunification of their best friendship while struggling with conflicting romantic feelings too.
How will Penn handle his unrequited feelings for Cope? And how will Cope deal with the weird and unexplainable feelings he starts having towards Penn? What will happen if their fathers find out all the secrets that Penn and Cope have been hiding? Find out all that and so much more in this five star steamy, angsty, hot, hot, friends-to-lovers romance!!
This is absolutely a slow-burn romance, but HOLY HOT BISCUITS AND GRAVY!! When then steam kicks in though, dang!! It’s hotter than a sauna. Steamy, hot, sweaty, and oh so sexy.
Learning is most definitely FUNDAMENTAL, and oh did Cope teach and Penn do some learning.
*I voluntarily reviewed an advanced complimentary copy of this book.
My cr8zysockbookblock overall ratings for this book!
– I FLOVED it! I devoured this book so quickly. I didn’t want to put it down and I NEVER wanted it to end.
– FIRE!! Scorcher Alert. This book was sizzling sweet perfection.
Cliffhanger Warning- I AM IN LOVE WITH THE WAY IT ENDED No cliffhanger
Wow! My mind is blown after reading the phenomenal story about forbidden love! The story of Cope and Penn will hold you captive from the very beginning to the very end. The emotions you will feel while reading this will be all over the place. When someone loves you and they don’t reciprocate can be so heart wrenching and that is how Penn feels. He and Cope were best friends until one day they weren’t. This story explains how hard life can be when people don’t accept you for who you really are. And this author knocks it out of the park! I don’t want to say anything more as to give away any spoilers. Except, please read this story. Everyone needs this book in their life. I’m so in love with these characters and you will fall in love with them too!
This is a MM story. Penn and Copeland (Cope) are best friends that became enemies. After two years apart they become friends again. The chemistry between this two are off the charts. This is even if one of them doesn’t like guys. What becomes of their friendship when they become friends again and true feelings are shown?
This story was so well written that I didn’t want it to end. There were parts that I really wanted to b**** slap some of the side characters in the book. Other than that I loved every aspect of this story and what the characters had to go through to get their HEA.
Love is Love
I absolutely F-Loved this book by K Webster
This is one angsty, steamy, dynamic MM romance you don’t want to miss.
Penn is the all-star football stud. Bright future. Trust Fund baby. Secret holder with the sad eyes.
Copeland is the broody artist. Cold hearted. Devil may care attitude. Going through the emotions until he can break away.
A friendship torn apart in a heated moment of truth only to be redeemed through love. Follow the story of their redemption and the journey back to one another.
Former best friends who realize the heart and soul will not be ignored.
This book has all the angst. All the drama. All the heat. I highly recommend.
And as always from my reviews, my top quotes of the book:
“It’s a connection. Something that after all this time, I can’t seem to fully sever. Some days, I think it’s the only thing giving me life. Like the moment I let him go in my heart, I’ll lose me too.”
“My little liar who lies is smiling. But his eyes flare bright blue. Copeland gets jealous, too.”
“No one sees. No one but me. His eyes could never lie to me.”
“He tastes like rain and friendship and memories and love. And I can’t get enough.”
Oh my heart! Penn and Cope were amazing. That simple. I wasn’t sure once I started this book because high school books aren’t really my thing but I don’t know why I even doubted this author. She pulled no stops pulling me and and keeping me engrossed with the progression of Penn and Cope. Both were amazing characters and overcome a lot from the start of this book. I don’t read much MM but this….. this book was art. From laughter to being worried, I didn’t want this story to end. It wasn’t an easy road for these two characters but I love that they stayed true to each other. There was no “we can’t be together” once they finally gave into their love. Gah, I just loved it! Even if you are not a fan of MM, this is the perfect beginner book for any novice to the trope. 5 stars #2OCCJD
Omg I am a mess of emotions!! This book had me tangled in knots from the beginning. I couldn’t wait to see what happened next but there were times that I wasn’t sure if my fragile heart could take it. There were some many mixed emotions from the characters and this author did an amazing job making sure that I felt them too.
Penn and Cope went from best friends to enemies and then they found their way back to each other…but no matter how much they wanted to forget what made them enemies, they just couldn’t escape the feelings of longing and confusion that surrounded them. Only now those feeling are so much stronger…
This book was full of shocking, angsty, emotionally draining moments but it also had a ton of heart thumping, panty drenching moments that kept me fully invested in the outcome of their story and I couldn’t put it down. I seriously can not recommend this book enough and highly recommended grabbing your copy right away to get started!!
This book was excellent! I loved Cope and Penn. I loved how once Cope had made up his mind he became so possessive. This was a great MM book. They overcame everything.
It took me days to recover from this book. K Webster blew me away with Cope and Penn’s story. A friendship like theirs is meant to last forever, but something so innocent and full of love burned it all to the ground.
Living in a world where wealth, power and success are lorded over them, appearances are everything. Penn took risks and chances to be authentic to himself. Copeland fought back and denied himself. Separately for years they seethed in silence and pain. No matter how many lies and denials you tell yourself, the heart does not sit quietly.
Together they are poetry in motion. They tame each other’s beasts with powerful lust and whisk away the anger and hurt with gentle kisses. Giving into their soul’s desire.
This scorching MM Read is not to be missed! Fast paced, edgy and deliciously dirty. K Webster is at her finest with this book.
4.5 Mind-Blowing Stars!!
Cope and Penn’s story is utterly fantastic. Their connection growing up was very special, almost like brothers, until one awful night everything changed. Their journey is about the heartache, struggles, acceptance, lies, passion and much more.
My emotions were all over the place, and I found myself hooked right from the start. The storyline is beautifully well-written, and well-crafted. The characters are very compelling, believable, and so alive. There’s nothing more delicious than a true enemies to lovers with all the feels, written by K Webster.
I don’t want to give anything away so I won’t spoil the story for you. Just know that Wicked Lies Boys Tell is a story worth reading.
Audible Edition:
Teddy Hamilton and Jacob Morgan did an amazing job by bringing this story to life. They absolutely nailed it with their performance. It was BRILLIANT!!ope and Penn’s story is utterly fantastic.
Wicked Lies Boys Tell is an intense, slow burn, MM angsty, emotionally charged, sweet, dirty, love story. Penn and Copeland started out as childhood best friends for sixteen years. Then something happens that ruins their friendship and now they’re enemies. It eats both of them up to be at odds with one another but neither is wiling to give in. Will they find a way to get past their differences and become the friends they once were, or will they allow the divide to continue?
K Webster does a great job of weaving the story and creating characters that you can’t get enough of. The story has many layers and I enjoyed peeling each of them back to discover this beautiful love story. This is a must-read if you like M/M romances.
