Holy crap – you know that feeling when you get sucked into a book and you don’t want it to end? This was me today with Penn and Cope’s story. K Webster wrote such a fantastic M/M coming of age best friends to enemies to lovers story with this one. It being my first read of the M/M genre, I’m kicking myself for letting it sit idle in my kindle for months because I just couldn’t put this one down. It has all the angst, drama, a few laughs, and oh my sweetness the sex scenes are off the charts – but what won me over was how descriptive EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER is in this and you could feel what they were feeling. It’s not just about the main characters in this one, the side characters are just as involved and that totally impressed me. I already knew K Webster is one of helluva good author, but this is drives it home. I am already bumping other books out of the way to read more of her works thanks to this one.
I was not fond of the first half of the book, and I suspect that’s more of a “me” thing than it is an accurate reflection on the book. I just don’t like high school/teenager drama. And wow, there was a lot of that, which makes sense since this book is about two high school teens who are figuring out their lives.
Penn is a star football player with a horrible father. Copeland is a rebel who despises his father. Both boys are best friends until Penn one day puts the move on Copeland which causes Copeland to shun him. All it takes is one fight at a party to bring Copeland and Penn back together and for them to realize that they belong together. Once Penn and Copeland began working together and found their internal strength to forge their own future, I began to like the book and like the characters. I loved how the book ended and would love to read a sequel to how Penn and Copeland are living and thriving as adults. The writing was well done, and the sex scenes were incredibly hot. Even though the first part of the book wasn’t to my taste, the drama and angst was well written and I can understand why other readers might like it so much.
Obsessed. As per usual with K. Webster books, I’m so obsessed with her words and the characters she creates. Penn and Cope are no different. I love them both so hard, and fell for each of them so fast.
My first full length MM novel, I’m so glad I got to experience it with Penn and Cope, who are both learning and struggling together. After an incident drives them apart for two years, they’re brought back together and navigate their new path just as they’ve done everything since childhood: together.
These two such share a profound bond with each other and the love that’s between them is so much more than a romantic idea. It’s unbreakable. Unstoppable. It’s the kind of love that most people can only dream about, but it’s always been their reality.
I don’t know why I waited so long to read this book, I could just kick myself for it. But I’m so glad I’m here now. Even if you aren’t a typical fan of MM, I still highly suggest you read this book. It’s a beautiful story of two people loving each other, even as they have a difficult path to their happy ending.
Penn McAlister and Copeland Justice have been friends since childhood, sharing in each other’s triumphs and troubles. Believing the bond between them could never be broken, it took one mistake to divide them for two painfully long years until one tumultuous moment brings them together again. As emotions run high, Penn craves to make up for lost time, but Cope still has to face the truth, leaving barriers for both to break through.
Narrated in dual POV, this story unfolds in the eyes of Penn and Copeland. On the outside, Penn is the smart and popular football athlete. In contrast, Copeland is the bad boy with effortlessly styled hair, dark clothes and tattoos. Trying to rebuild their friendship, Penn is his caring self even with Cope’s misplaced anger. With the emotion of missing what they had and the percolating sexual tension, the chemistry between Penn and Cope is combustible.
When starting this book, I had no idea the main characters were going to be eighteen and high school seniors. Typically, I’d avoid that setting due to drama, but it worked perfectly for this story – just the right amount of angst and all the feels associated with first love. I loved how Penn and Cope had a longstanding friendship and been with each other through many hard times. The evolution of Cope and Penn giving in to their romantic feelings was perfectly executed with a range of intimidation and doubts, but ultimately a heartfelt connection.
Since the difficulties Penn and Cope both experience with their families is a core part of the story, I did want more background relating to their fathers. And because I am being greedy, the ending seemed a bit rushed for me. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and lusting over its cover.
Wicked Lies Boys Tell is a steamy and intense coming of age MM romance about friendship, standing up for oneself and embracing the truth.
** spoiler alert ** Amazingggg! Loved it! Started it in the am and finished it in the afternoon. Listened to the audio the entire day and did NOT stop! I loved the connection between the two guys. Penn & Cope were PERFECTION. 5 stars all the way. This book was HOT HOT. Nothing like a good best friend turned lovers story.
This was such an amazing read! Penn and Cope have been best friends since they were little, but one kiss destroyed them. After a few years pass and they reconnect, Cope’s fears and insecurities of his feelings for Penn, especially when Penn kissed him, change as he finally allows himself to love. I loved this book! I’m a huge fan of M/M and this one was so wonderfully written. I love the push and pull of their relationship and how territorial and protective they are of each other. A must read.
Intensely satisfying
Okay so this was some crazy drama, but somehow I ended up enjoying it all anyway. The push and pull between Penn and Cope was intense. As much as I hate teenage drama, especially the whole fake fiancée business in this, I still loved how they came together in the end. These two have had one intense relationship since they were kids. Almost as if they were destined to be joined at the hip.
I don’t read much MM, but this one had me all shook up. I do really enjoy K Webster’s knack for writing engaging characters and stories.
If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would.
This book is amazing, awesome, great, fabulous, a must read!
This book has everything a great book has: great characters, great storyline, some wittyness, hot scenes, all the feels, fabulous writing.
Webster you have outdone yourself with this one. A true Winner!!!
You know when you read a K. Webster it is going to be steamy as fuck…and this book is no different. A completely hot M/M story but also more than just hot. Unrequited love, bullying, emotional and physical abuse and yes my all time favorite, gay for you story. This story has it all. When Penn and Cope say they have each other’s backs…they really do.
“I found someone better,” he hisses. “But God was cruel and made him incapable of loving me back. So second best will have to do.”
an emotional and at times gut wrenching read.

I picked it up on a friend’s recommendation.
I figured I would listen to it because.–hello!–Teddy Hamilton and Jacob Morgan. Their voices alone would make me listen to anything.
And let’s be clear, it’s MM romance and I heard it was angsty, so why wouldn’t I give this a shot, right?
Anyway, THIS BOOK HOOKED ME. And when I say that, I mean I didn’t want to put it down. I pushed play on my way to work and was mad when I got there in record time because that meant I had to actually go do work.
I listened on my definitely not long enough break and was mad when that time was up too.
I hit play for a third time on my drive home.
And when I got home, I grabbed my phone and my nearest set of earbuds and popped those in and hit play again.
I finished the whole book in one day.
Cope and Penn were everything I wanted in angsty, broody romance. This is a weird friends to enemies to lovers story that just worked on every single level.
Bitchy ex-girlfriend? Got it.
Kick ass girl who knows the truth, but plays along? Check.
Shitty parents? Got ’em.
A LOVE THAT KNOWS NO BOUNDS AND PERSISTS EVEN WHEN THE ODDS ARE AGAINST THAT LOVE? You know it’s here or you wouldn’t read romance.
Seriously, get this book RTFN. Cope and Penn will find their spot in your heart too.
I have no idea why I had this book on my kindle for so long without reading it. This story was hard to put down after the very first page. I finished it within a few hours and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!! I enjoy a good M/M book from time to time and this one did not disappoint. Penn and Copeland went from childhood best friends, to enemies, to so much more. I loved their story even if I hated their parents. Man oh man, the angst in this story was EVERYTHING!!! I love a story that keeps me wanting more and this one had me that way until the very end and even then, I was left wanting more of these characters. The ending was sweet and steamy and now that I’ve finished this book I’m going to search my kindle for every K. Webster book I have and devour them. If you enjoy M/M and friends to lovers, DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS STORY!!!
I haven’t read a ton of M/M but OMG literally once I started reading this book I couldn’t put it down!! You literally can feel the emotions and struggle that these two have together. It makes you have tons of feels. I loved both Penn and Cope. If you enjoy M/M or even if your looking to give it a shot as a ne read for you I Highly recommend this book, you won’t be disappointed.
Wicked Lies Boys Tell
By: K Webster
Narrated by: Teddy Hamilton, Jacob Morgan
This is not your typical K Webster book, yet I found myself engrossed in the story! Penn and Cope have been best friends forever, and their relationship changing from friends to lovers was at times heart wrenching and other times so explosive my ears were melting. It’s full of angst with the fears and stereotypes that go with the genre, but there were also some surprises that made me really enjoy this one. The friendship with Leah had me, as it is one of those things reminiscent of high school, and she really brought some additional emotions to the story, outside of Penn and Cope. I did think the family drama was important, but it fizzled out for me, not giving the big bang I thought was going to happen. With the narration by Teddy Hamilton and Jacob Morgan, the story is enhanced, as their chemistry as narrators is off the charts. These two meld well together, with their different styles, each honing in on the personality of their character. I think they brought this story to it’s maximum enjoyment and the casting by Webster an impeccable choice.

***4.5
There’s not many M/M romance that I have read before. It’s a genre that I temp to be picky about. When I saw that K. Webster release Wicked Lies Boys Tell I had to grab it. I love her writing style and I’m fond of her taboo and dark reads so I knew she would be an excellent choice for another addition to my MM reads.
Love the development of this complicated relationship between Penn and Cope. Discovering themselves and been ok with the choices this two young men will have to go through. This is a high school romance with a twist. It’s not only about two guys falling in love. It’s about the prejudice many young men suffer today. From family, friends and more so strangers.
It touch me and I hurt for Penn and Cope so much. Seen them struggle and trying to hide their true feelings. There sexual chemistry was incredible and very hot. Their affectionate side made me swoon. They are both overprotective and passionate guys.
I both read and listen to this story. Narrated by two of my favorites Zachary Webber( Cope) and Teddy Hamilton (Penn) They did an incredible job and hey I’m a girl so having this sexy voices narrating this gorgeous two characters is definitely a PLUS for me.
If you are not sure about MM reads I guarantee you this one would definitely will be an amazing way to start reading them.
HOLY COW!
This book, you guys. THIS. BOOK.
I’m sort of speechless. I don’t know how I could possibly type out words to express just how much I truly loved this book, the story and these characters.
From the first pages, I knew I would love this book hard. And not long after it secured itself in my Top 5 Favorite books OF ALL TIME. This is now my second favorite – maybe even tied for number 1 – MM book I’ve ever read. Hands down. No exaggerations.
It was well-written, easy to read, compelling, hot as all hell and steamy like no one’s business, deep, moving, and everything in between. I have no way of describing just how much I loved Penn and Cope. I feel like they’re forever embedded in my heart and mind.
Penn McAlister is the ultimate suffering sweetheart you just want to hug onto forever. He was a perfect beauty, sexy and confident while also fully broken inside… All torn up over his secret love for his best friend. And Copeland Justice is the bad boy, dark-haired brooding hottie that I totally would have given my left tit to date in high school. And of course, he’s in love with Penn too. He just didn’t know it yet. All of the childhood memories of them comforting each other were so sweet and obviously building toward something more. There was no way they could ignore it. Though Cope tried for longer than Penn did.
I loved how descriptive Kristi was with Penn’s hidden emotions toward Cope. And then the jealousy Cope was feeling while watching Penn with other people was something to really be adored. It was all so angsty and stomach-clenchingly good that when they finally started hooking up, you couldn’t help but squeal while your panties SET ON FIRE!
No, seriously. The sex in this book was everything I look for in an MM romance. It was hesitant at first, since it was all so new to both of them, but then they quickly became obsessed, and it made my heart soar. I really loved how happy Penn became when he finally got his wish, and Cope as well, when he realized that Penn was his home.
I really just LOVED the fact that while this wasn’t necessarily a story that’s completely new, the author made it new. She made these two brilliant characters and their love story unique and beautiful. It was a forbidden romance in its own right, and I really treasured every single word on each page.
If you haven’t read this book yet, get your life together and do it. Right now. Don’t wait, no excuses. Honestly, I’m in awe. Infinity applause for K. Webster and the endless perfection that is this book!
There has never be a K Webster book that has disappointed me and man this one blew me out of the water. It was exactly what I was looking for when I wanted a REAL M/M romance. I wanted the romance, not just all get down and dirty, and this was a perfect balance of that.
I loved Penn and Cope together. Penn’s love for Cope runs deep and it shows from page one.
I need to add allll of K’a books to my TBR pile as she knows exactly how to make the “taboo” romance feel just right and perfect!
I loved this book so much!! M/M is one of my favorites and K. Webster hit me with a good one! Penn and Copeland were phenomenal! I loved them so much! I need more M/M from her in the near future!

Ever fall in love with someone you know you shouldn’t, or someone you can’t have. Regardless, you can’t choose the person you will love. Your heart knows the truth. And all love – no matter where or with whom we find it – is beautiful and deserves to flourish without limits. Sometimes we have to fight not only for love itself, but also for who we love.
I loved Penn and Cope’s story. Their love is born and cultivated from a boyhood friendship and withstands every possible hurdle. Social stature, the backlash of the truth, and the displeasure of their parents’ cannot inhibit or derail their feelings once established. The drawn out slow progression of the “coming out” was the best, it created the perfect amount of apprehension between the two. While Penn was confident in his feelings, Cope was uncertain and had to come to terms with his.
was wickedly titillating, and the over the top narration just added to the steamy amorousness of the story. This is tale was !!
Solid 4.5 Stars
Whoa…there is nothing hotter than Teddy Hamilton and Jacob Morgan narrating an M/M story – once again they did not disappoint.
Based in high school, it’s a friends to enemies to lovers story. Penn knowing pretty early on that he had feelings for his best friend Copeland – and an unfortunate incident of acting on those feelings tearing them apart. A couple years later they are thrust back into each others lives where we get to witness Cope’s feelings gradually change and Penn’s every fantasy come true. Loved that they were each others firsts and they got their HEA.
I was thinking there would be a big reveal about the father’s at the end since both of them were awful to their sons and the mother’s were pretty much non-existent throughout. Just a feeling at the back of my brain that never came to fruition…which would have made this story a whole new level of taboo 🙂
Penn McAlister and Copeland Justice best of friends for as long as they can remember until one day when everything changed. The day Penn kissed Cope. Wicked Lies Boys Tell had all the angst you’d expect from YA and then some. The push and pull of their relationship kept me hooked and the sex was the perfect mix of love, lust and heat. The secondary characters were not developed enough for me, but the relationship between Penn and Cope kept me rapt. That combined with the narration duo and I couldn’t get enough.
