The heroine is such a complete and utter witch to the self-made hero. She’s too high and mighty to lower herself to marry such a rough lowlife as the one who bought all her father’s vowels. Same wonderful father who sold married her off to save the family. She’s not only snotty to the H but about his sisters as well. In fairness, she’s not rude to them, but tells him off for wanting to marry her to help his sisters in society.
I am sure they had incredible sexual tension, but I never got that far.
A far better romance with a highborn Lady who falls for a rough, self-made man is Lisa Kleypas’ Where Dreams Begin. She’s disturbed by their social class clash, but never lowers herself into being a bitch.
I actually read the second book WEDDED IN WINTER first. It was a novella included in a collection and I was enchanted! I promptly bought the series. Deveraux Winter is the oldest and only male with 5 younger sisters. He is fabulously wealthy and is looking for a society bride to introduce his sisters so they can find suitable husbands. Lady Emilia King, daughter of a duke, is a spinster – her heart belongs to her dead finance. When her ailing father gambles away their fortune, Dev steps in and offers the forgiveness of all if Emilia will marry him. She is outraged at this rogue daring to offer for her when she is so far removed from him socially. She refuses, much to the grief of her mother. But Dev is ruthless in his pursuit and slowly, Emilia is astonished to discover the deep love he has for his sisters and the tender and loving side of this huge, handsome, wealthy man. Wonderful story of true love and the obstacles that can be overcome!
Wicked in Winter is one of those love stories that you have a difficult time putting down! Mr. Dev Winters decides to marry into the ton and who better than his neighbor Lady Emilia Kimg? With his debonair proposal of marry me or a your family will be destitude! Those are fighting word for the spunky Lady Emilia. Sparks fly in this passion filled romance full of drama, turmoil, heartache, and A viper of an ex-mistress waiting in the background. A heart stopping novel by Scarlett Scott!
What a beautiful story. The author brings us in this book, a love story where a wealthy rogue seeks a wife only for his conveniences and a beautiful spinster who does not wish to marry but has no choice because her family will be ruined. Scarlett Scott brings these two characters together where they realized they needed each other. I’m totally in love with the character Dev. If your looking for a page turner of humorous and steamy scenes, this is your book!
Happy Reading
Starring Devereaux Winter and Lady Emilia King. Paying off a debt/Forced marriageable trope.
I could not put this book down!! Read it one sitting from beginning to end. So freaken amazeballs!!
Emilia is the daughter of a duke, so she’s a bit hoity-toity when it comes to the thought of lowering herself to associate with Devereaux Winters and his sisters. So she’s in for a shakeup when she finds out that her father gambled away their fortune and Dev now holds all the notes. He will, of course, forgive all the debt if Emilia agrees to become his wife and sponsor his sisters. Even though she wants to stay angry at Dev, Emilia can’t help notice how wonderful and loving he is towards his family… and how patient and considerate he is towards her ailing father. Soon she starts to see Dev in a different light… and against her better judgement, starts to fall in love with her husband.
Devereaux is a rich merchant who wants the best for his sisters. So he decides to, calculatingly, make Emilia his wife, so that she can open society’s doors, elevate their status, and find worthy titled husbands for his sisters. Dev is determined to win Emilia’s cooperation and her affections. He’s a little demanding in his approach, but soon he’s melting the ice around Emilia’s heart.
“I vow to you that I will always put your needs and wants before mine, from this moment forward.” ~Devereaux Winter
Gaaaah!!! I mean… I know, right?!?! Dev totally wore his heart on his sleeve… and can I just say that I’m a sucker for heroes with dimples? Totally swoon!!
Dev and Emilia had sparks flying on their first scene together. I loved their sexual tension and their power struggle will bring each other to their knees… literally!! I also loved that Emilia kept distancing herself by calling Dev, Mr. Winter all the time. But he had some delicious ways of making her call out his name. These two were absolute dynamite together. I’m surprise my fingers didn’t get singe with every swipe of the page. Even before the plot twist I was already a blubbering mess. I think all of Scarlett Scott’s books should come with a warning: “Do not wear mascara when reading this book… guaranteed ugly cry AF”.
I read WICKED IN WINTER out of sequence. I actually read WEDDED IN WINTER (in the Once Upon a Christmas Wedding Anthology), WANTON IN WINTER, and WILLFUL IN WINTER, first. It’s ok… all the books are standalones. THE WICKED WINTERS series is fast climbing the charts on my “ALL TIME FAVE SERIES” list. It’s now rubbing elbows with the Bridgertons (Julia Quinn), Lisa Kleypas’s Wallflowers, Turner Series (Courtney Milan), and Albright series (Jess Michaels). I have a feeling that I will be re-reading the Winters over and over and over again
Scarlett Scott has placed herself firmly on my keeper shelf. If she’s writing it… imma gonna read it!!
I learned a new word:
ac·cou·cheur/ˌäko͞oˈSHər/ noun
1. a male midwife.
I won a contest and this story was my prize. I voluntarily review it and the comments are 100% my own.
My star system:
5 stars: Ugly cried AF… major book hangover… characters were amazing… made me wanna hug the author for writing a book that gave me all the feels!! Will be re-reading this story over and over and over again!!
Dev Winters has decided to buy himself some respectability. As the head of the “Wicked Winter’s” clan, he needed a socialite wife to help him marry off his 5 sisters and smooth out his merchant/rake reputation. His next door neighbor is a duke whose dementia has led him to gamble their family into horrific debt. Buying up the notes lets him have Emilia, the duke’s beautiful spinster daughter, right where he wants her. Still mourning the death of her first fiance, Emilia is very resistant to the marriage despite the fact that she is starting to really like Dev and his sisters. If you like the enemies to lovers genre, this is a cute one!
Devereaux Winter is one of the wealthiest men in England, but the one thing he lacks is respectability he doesn’t have an aristocratic background. He needs a noble wife to bring his family the respectability they need. He’s set his sight Lady Emilia King a Duke’s daughter and what he wants he always gets. He buys up all his gambling debt and gives her very little choice about marring him and launching his five sisters into the marriage mart. He’s stubborn and determined to have Emily one way or another, she finds he’s not quite what she expected. I love the verbal sparring as these come to terms with their backgrounds and passions as love soon follows. We catch a glimpse of his sisters’ personalities and I can’t wait for their books. I loved this story of two stubborn people falling in love despite the odds and I voluntarily wrote a review.
I have not been disappointed in any book I have read by Scarlett Scott, and I am sure neither will you. I Loved this book and I fell in love with Dev Winter. Can he be ruthless? Yes. Is he a businessman who know what he wants and does anything to get it? Yes. But he is also a man who loves his sisters and cares deeply. Emilia did not want to marry “Mr. Winter” but she felt like she had no choice, but in the end he won her heart like he won mine. The love scenes between Dev and Emilia were hot, but also romantic.
I can not wait for the Winter Sisters to find their loves.
Wicked in Winter is the first book in The Wicked Winters series. It definitely started the series off successfully! Dev Winter’s family needs respectability if his five sisters are to make successful marriages. Even with a fortune at their disposal the Winter family was not included in polite society. In order to gain respectability, Dev buys all the Duke of Abingdon’s vowels and coerces Lady Emilia to marry him. His plan is for Emilia to sponsor and guide his sisters in society and to make advantages marriages. Dev is ruthless and a successful business man and has no idea of how to court a lady. He loves his sisters, so he is prepared to court and marry Emilia for their sakes. Once they are married, can Emilia’s hate lessen as she realizes how considerate Dev is? Dev was such a great hero is the book. He had a hard exterior but, on the inside, he had a large heart. He was patient and loving to his sisters and eventually Emilia came to see him as such. I didn’t really care for Emilia to start out. She was snobbish and didn’t seem to try at all to befriend Dev’s sisters. Once they were married, she eventually began to thaw towards them. This was a great book to start off the series. A little of each sisters personalities was shown and lead into the books for the sisters.
4.5 stars!
This novella was equal parts a great enemies-to-lovers story and an interesting setup for future books concerning Dev’s FIVE sisters. The push-and-pull of Dev and Emilia’s relationship was filled with such angsty, hate-to-love-you passion that definitely warmed my cheeks at times (Dev is a dirty talker!). Dev is a working man who has worked hard for his fortune and is therefore everything that Emilia, a duke’s daughter, should despise. However when Dev acquires the duke’s debts, he exchanges the money owed for Emilia’s hand in marriage in order to better himself and give his sisters a chance to make an advantageous match. I loved getting to see little snippets of who each sister is and possibly get a glimpse of who they will end up with. Overall, this was a great, steamy novella complete with OW drama and a “misunderstanding”. Definitely recommend from one of my go-to HR authors!
*****I generously received an ARC of this magnificent book before release date*****
Woo-hoo!! Another new steamy romance series from the talented Scarlett Scott!
Mr. Devereaux Winters is a gorgeous and determined man. He is so rich, he just may be the richest man in England. He also has 5 beautiful young sisters who needs guidance and future spouses. His neighbor is the beautiful, stuck up Lady Emilia, her beloved suitor died of an illness. So, she settles for spinsterhood.
The Duke, Lady Emilia’s father gets into financial troubles. When Mr. Winter’s finds out, he does something that will make Lady E his!!
Oh, I loved this book as soon as I read chapter 1, Mr. Winter is a scoundrel, he is darkly deliciously handsome and desperate for a wife to help with his sister.
In the beginning Lady Emilia was very rude and snobby to him because he worked for his money. The ton frowns at working and untitled commoners.
One of the many things I love about Scarlett Scott is her attention to details!
Eventually their intense attraction and chemistry wins out!!! I loved, I enjoyed this story line, and the characters. His sisters are funny and a handful. I can’t wait for the next book!
This book is a definite, all the way a 5 Star!
PS. I loved the dedication, cracked me up <3
