An attorney with a spotless record. A client with blood on his hands. How much will she risk to set the verdict straight? So when he’s accused of murdering his wife and children, she moves to the other side of the … moves to the other side of the courtroom to defend the man who believed in her when no one else would. Her inevitable victory in court feels hollow when she catches Perry sneaking off to a secret meeting with a gorgeous woman and hosting extravagant soirees at the scene of the crime.
Guilt-ridden at the thought of letting a possible killer go free, she follows her mentor’s every move… and runs into the same NYPD detective who warned her against taking the case. When the detective threatens to arrest her for stalking if she doesn’t stop, she’s faced with an impossible decision—save her career and let an almost-certain killer walk free or risk everything to bring him to justice.

Why (Stalker Series Book 2)
By Megan Mitcham
5 out of 5 stars
The story Why (Stalker Series Book 2) by Megan Mitcham is a book that is thrilling and suspenseful. It pulled me in right from the start and didn’t let me go until the final page. It has danger, a little romance, and mystery. I loved the character of Genevieve Holst. She is an attorney who lives for putting the bad guys behind bars. When her boss and mentor is accused of murder, she defends Perry when no one else would. After her victory, she begins to uncover information and situations that raise questions. What will Genevieve discover? Does she know her boss and mentor as well as she thinks? What could happen if Perry finds out that she is following his every move? Read this book to find out. Genevieve is a woman who is strong, confident, and independent. She gives her all when she has a cause or case, she believes in. She is not one to give up easily. She is a likable character whom you want to root for. I also loved reading about the characters that interact with her. She has strong friendships and is liked by those she works with. This is a story that had me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. It is written in such a way that I felt like I was right there with Genevieve in her investigation. There are times when I had to remind myself to breathe. This is a book that will have you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend reading it.

5 Stars
Why is the highly anticipated second book in the Stalker Series by Megan Mitcham. After reading the first riveting book, “Who”, and loving it so much- I really had very high expectations for this story. I wondered if Ms. Mitcham would be able to even match, let alone surpass, the sheer brilliance of book one. But, I really shouldn’t have doubted her though, because this book is every bit as good as the first- and I am having trouble picking my favourite out of the two. It’s so intense, compelling, and clever. Colour me hooked on this series now, it’s that addictive! I will be expectantly waiting for the rest of the series to release- ready to pounce as soon as they do!
The book/s could be read as standalones, but as each book focuses on an individual from a great group of very close friends, I really recommend reading book one before starting on this one. As I said earlier, book one is such a riveting psychological thriller, it’s a story that deserves reading in its own right- but it also introduces us to the recurring characters, and also knowing what happens in book one will only enhance your reading experience of this story.
“Why” follows Genevieve Holst, who we met in book #1. She’s a formidable attorney, who has just successfully represented her boss, clearing him of murder charges, after he was accused of killing his wife and two young children. He’s not just her boss, but also a friend and mentor. She had to do what she could to help clear his name as there was no way he could be guilty of such a heinous crime. Right? But no sooner had the ink dried on his release papers, he began tweaking her suspicion. Did he actually kill his family? Did she help to free a killer? And this is where this wonderfully suspenseful story really takes flight…
The story is a very steamy and suspenseful crime thriller that’s packed full of intrigue, dramatic developments, mystery, tension, danger, and plenty of action. As with the first book, the intensity, suspense and dramatic effects were so well developed, cleverly crafted, and entirely compelling. It was so engrossing and easy to lose myself in the story (in the best possible way) that I found myself devouring the pages, completely caught up in the exciting developments and trying to figure out what would happen next. It was so deftly woven- and is a true testament to Ms. Mitcham’s writing prowess.
I am eagerly anticipating the next instalment- “How” (Book #3) – FBI Agent Libby Irish’s story.
Thank you, Ms. Mitcham!!
Genevieve Holst went from prosecutor to defence attorney to defend her friend and mentor, Perry Carter. But after Perry walks free, Gen makes some discoveries that plant the seed of doubt in her mind. The too handsome detective Owen Graham tells Gen to let it go, but can she? Will Gen’s desperate need to find answers result in justice being served or will she become Perry’s next victim?
Why is a riveting, suspenseful and steamy romantic thriller that you won’t be able to put down
Another book in this series that was really good. Gen is a high powered attorney who defends her friend. After the trial is over she has major doubts about the case. Owen was the detective on the case. Both are attracted to each other. Both also push each others buttons. But when Gen needs Owen the most he is there for all of it. Gen goes through hell during this book but fights tooth and nail to stay alive. The only thing I found rushed was the relationship between Gen and Owen but it was still good and so is the book. I look forward to book 3 in this series.
*I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
I loved Why! Just as good as the first book in the stalker series. This Psychological Thriller will keep you guessing until the climactic ending. Genevieve and her best friends are as funny as ever. As an Attorney, Genevieve has a tough case to win and the story starts there. What a thrilling story. I loved Detective Owen Graham and how he broke down Genevieve’s walls. A great ending that will bring us into the next book in this amazing series, How, Stalker Novel #3.
I give Why 5 stars for its thrilling read.
I would recommend this book to Fans of Psychological Suspense.
An exciting suspenseful, sexy satisfying read that had me turning page after page when I should have gone to sleep.
Genevieve is a woman forged from a traumatic past. She has become a fiercely independent, private, loyal, fiercely protective lawyer who kicks butt in the courtroom. When Perry her mentor, boss and friend is accused of a heinous act she vigorously defends him. Detective Owen Graham is convinced that Perry is guilty as sin. Gen might be one of only a handful who believes his acquittal is just. However long held secrets, illogical behaviour and inconsistencies make her question, could she be wrong? Gen and Owen may have been opposites in the court, but now their simmering chemistry can no longer be ignored. The story is rich with drama, angst, danger and heat.
This author got my attention with the magic of her words and the stories that pull you in. Since I did read the one before this I wasted no time in entering into this one. Beware she will do the same to you- pull you in and you disappear into the suspense. Geneviene learns a lesson in life in the beginning of this one with you wanting to help anyway you can. With her integrity you watch a struggle with you knowing the character will do the right thing. Oh Owen, you sure know how to stir the pot. We will also be given a wham bam thank you reader at the end that will leave us in a panty twist.
Received an advance copy from the author.
I loved this story, it had so many twists and turns and unexpected scenarios. I loved Gen and Owen together, they went through a lot to find their HEA.
This is my first time reading Ms. Mitcham but it definitely won’t be my last. This book was a rollercoaster ride that goes upside down and sideways multiple times. It is packed with intrigue, gore, romance, friendship, psychological warfare, murder and mayhem. Gen is a lawyer with scruples, who believes in her friends, and then learns that sometimes you need to let people in so you can let the bad out. Wonderful read!
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
A great read, easy to get lost in.
Prosecutor Genevieve Holst is determined to make right all the wrongs in her life that she feels responsible for by putting criminals away and pushing for the death penalty. Before she is able to befriend the new detective and prove they are on the same side of the law she is faced with her boss and mentor being prosecuted for murder and she goes from prosecutor to defender and manages to maintain her undefeated record. At a celebratory party in the house the murder was committed Genevieve is surprised with a promotion she doesn’t want.
A great continuation of the series.
This is a great story that has a storyline that is interesting and intriguing. The characters work so well together and have each other’s backs except one! When a lawyer wins it usually a great thing but this lawyer feels somethings off and sets out to find out why she feels as she does. What happens next is a great story that will pull you into a outstanding story! I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
He is a detective. She just defended her boss and friend on murder charges. He believes that her boss is a killer. They are on opposite sides until she starts doubting the innocence of her boss. Can she find the answer she is looking for and have a relationship with him?
It’s quite a while since I read “Who” and I forgot just how brilliant this author is at building suspense and keeping me on the edge of the seat Yet another night of reading into the early hours of the morning not wanting to put this book down. I am not sure if I would call it a romantic suspense as the romance is more of an aside but it is definitely a psychological thriller with a touch of romance
Genevieve (Gen) Holst is a prosecutor who loves to put away the bad guys something she wishes she could have dome for her sister but when her boss is accused of killing his wife and family she turns to defending him after all he is a good guy and couldn’t have done what they are saying. Been as good as she is she soon has him free that is when she begins to question what she has done She is hearing things that she doesn’t like about her good guy boss has she made a error in judgement. Soon the man that was her biggest thorn during the trial Detective Owen Graham becomes her ally as she tries to rectify what she has done. This is a book that has more twists and tirns than a corkscrew and will keep you engaged until that last page
Why
If you are a fan of psychological thrillers, this one is a must read. It’s full of suspense, twists and questions. The story-line is believable and makes you think. For anyone who reads the headlines, the fact that a great lawyer can get a person found innocent is no surprise. That same lawyer having questions after the fact and doing something about it…that is different. What happens? Like I said, this is a must read for the answers to “Why”.
*I received an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book which I am voluntarily reviewing*
I was given this book to read by my close friend. She knows I love books that are intense, and keep me guessing about what’s going to happen next. This book was much better than I expected! I was so intrigued reading it that I read it all in one night. Oops I stayed up past my bedtime. It was well worth it! I would think I knew what was going to happen, then was surprised when the plot went a whole different way. I can’t wait for more books in this series!!!!!
A well-developed plot with twists and turns. Every time lawyer Genevieve “Gen” Holst turns around, something makes her doubt her faith in her client, which she got acquited. Gen and NYPD Detective Owen Graham have a love/hate relationship to begin the story but it develops into a great attraction. All the characters are wonderful and realistic. I looking forward to the next book
Holy wow! It’s been a while since I’ve read a book by this author, and I had forgotten how exceptionally well she does romantic suspense. Or maybe it’s more of a psychological brain scrambler with a side of romance thrown in. My mind feels like it’s spent an hour in an industrial strength blender, and I have yet to pick my jaw up off the floor.
Genevieve Holst is a cracker-jack prosecuting attorney who tries to make up for failing her sister by putting the bad guys away. When her boss, mentor and friend, Perry, is accused of murdering his wife and children, Gen dons the defense attorney cap to represent Perry. With her spotless success rate, it’s not long before Perry is a free man again. When it should be business as usual, Gen starts to see and hear things that cause her to question Perry’s case, and it’s not long before her biggest nemesis from the case, Detective Owen Graham, becomes an unlikely ally.
What follows is a complex, intricate, convoluted storyline with twists, turns and surprises guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat and reading voraciously to see what happens next. Mitcham takes us deep into the psyche of her flawed, elaborately crafted characters, securing the reader’s investment even further.
This one left me breathless. Gen is one of the most amazing heroines I’ve ever read. She’s intelligent and determined, with an admirable moral compass and the kind of inner strength we’d all love to have. While she and Owen seem like polar opposites, as their layers are peeled back, we find that they’re more alike than they realize, and they’re truly a perfect match.
This isn’t a lighthearted romance, but lovers of suspense and psychological thrillers will enjoy every part of this story. It’s intense, enigmatic and hypnotic and unequivocally worth the read. Don’t miss this one. It’s not only exceptional, but impossible to forget, as well.
Thank you to the author for the digital advance copy of this book in exchange for my review. This book is a really good psychological suspense with a dash or romance woven in.
Why is book two, but that said I have not read book one and moved this book, although I do want to get book one now….
Story is about Genevieve a lawyer who is an undefeated trial prosecuter, she switches sides to defend her boss, mentor and friend of murder. Only after all the fanfare, she has doubts…could he have done it? What happens??? Not going to tell you, but you want to read this book! It will suck you in, be prepared to not put it down. Also be aware there are some sex scenes in this book.
Thank you Megan, you have hooked a new reader
*****Why (ARC) by Megan Mitcham: A crime drama with heart
Very good storyline, with a heartwarming and snarky cast of friends who have each other’s back, except for the one who doesn’t. Lots of twists and surprises, with high risk dangerous situations and a good pace. Also, some shocking situations that are part of the story background, but could be a trigger for some. Love Gen and Owen’s steamy and snarky relationship, and their sweet HEA.
