Highly suspenseful and violent, this crime drama kept me in suspense throughout. Genevieve, known as Gen to her friends, thinks she doing the right thing by defending her boss in court for the murder of his wife and children until his unexpected behaviour, both past and present cast a new light on the situation. At first Gen’s character did not appeal to me as she is loud, brash and obnoxious, but she definitely grows on one and as more of her personality is portrayed, she pulls one in and made me root for her. After all, it is her background and tenacity that gives her the impetus to survive and push through circumstances. Her unfortunate attraction to her nemeses Detective Owen Graham gets in the way of her clear-minded thinking and logic, but when she needs help, he is the one to turn to. Owen’s gut tells him that Perry is responsible in some way for the death of his family, but the evidence points elsewhere. When Gen insists on taking the case, Owen finds himself keeping a close watch on her. As events keep piling up, Owen comes to her rescue more than once and he finally has to acknowledge his feelings for her. The problem is piercing Gen’s wounded heart and winning her over. Owen is opposite Gen in every way, and yet he is so very right for her. That is if she can live long enough for him to tell her. The novel is a standalone and comes to a successful conclusion with interesting and entertaining supporting characters. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
I loved Who. I really liked this one, but not as much as the first book. Partially because of Gen herself. Larkin had issues, and I didn’t think things could be worse, but Gen was harder than Larkin.
Genevieve is a hot shot prosecutor in New York. The top female lawyer who has not lost a case yet. Unlike Larkin, she did not come from a rich background, but worked hard to get to the top. The oldest of the 4 friends, she has always been the most irreverent of the bunch too. When her boss is accused of murdering his family, she is asked to defend him. Although she has never defended anyone in the past and truly believes that all those she prosecutes are guilty, there is always that small percentage that is innocent, and she truly believes that Perry Carter is innocent. Perry is not only her boss, but her friend. She has interacted with him and his family for years. She knows how much he adores them so she takes his case. Knowing there is a conflict of interest and that she should not be defending him, she also wants to help her friend.
Owen Graham is the lead detective on the case. Gen and Owen have been on opposing sides for the entire trial, but . that doesn’t mean he doesn’t find Gen attractive nor she him. After the trial is over, Genevieve begins to see a side of Perry that makes her question her belief that she made the right decision in defending him. When new information is brought to her attention, she can’t seem to stop herself from delving into the past looking for answers to some startling news.
Like the first book, some things are unknown, others are guessed at, but at the end, both heroines almost lose their life. Gen was one of those people that you applauded for being so outrageous and out there, but she was also a bit clueless. When she goes into a neighborhood that chews you up and spits you out into pieces, unarmed and ignoring her phone…well, things go from bad to almost dying. The fact that she doesn’t know how to fight and basically lets herself get beaten up. She freezes rather than reacts. Not the kind of vulnerability I expected from this tough as nails attorney. But I really liked Owen. Sweet, but tough. Fair and honorable. A really good guy that she just could not ask for help until it is almost too late.
Another great story in the series. And the best part is that we keep getting all of our favorites from the first book too.
Why by Megan Mitcham, is a heart-pounding second installment in her Stalker Series. It is filled with everything a romantic suspense lover desires! We are talking about twists and turns, powerful characters, a strong story, and that edge of your seat feeling. I loved following our heroine, Prosecutor Genevieve Holst! She is such a bad-a of a woman. She is stuck in a conundrum when she finds out her boss whom she helped get free of a crime she didn’t think he committed and then realizing he might have done it all along. There is so much more to this story, but I want you to read it yourself. It’s an amazing read!
Ok, it’s been awhile since i read the first book, but i was able to jump right back into the series. I really really loved this book, and the way the story unfolded kept me hooked until the end. The twists, turns, and just everything made the story what it was.
Owen and Genevieve, how do you describe them without making them sound awful lol, it was like cats and dogs or cats and water, love/hate would work too but its unique.
I honestly dont want to ramble on about this as the story as a whole is best read that way. Read book one, Who, first so you have background info and the story before this one.
Cannot wait for the next book.
I was glued to my kindle reading this book. It started off interesting and then became slow. Too much interest in the case. Then once the Detective started getting more involved (his times kept me riveted) it picked back up. Then it became a “hold onto your hat” wild crazy ride until the end.
The main characters were good and their connection to each other is like dogs and cats. I struggled to put the book down when they had their verbal sparring. Sparks seemed to fly! I really enjoyed Owen! He is so much more than I expected. His drive to get her is amazing! I wasn’t such a fan of the big bad lawyer(Genevieve) persona. When push comes to shove and it seemed to often…she flailed. She became a simpering woman. I got the impression she was a “take no crap” bada$$ lady but she seems to be that way in the courtroom only. She does have a wicked mouth on her and is able to spew some great comebacks to other characters.
My other issue is the time for the injuries to heal (seems non-existent) before either more are inflicted or a sexual escapade. Just seemed weird she wasn’t ever in pain past the next afternoon. I think I had this problem in the first book as well.
Overall it’s a story that gets better the further I read it. It took me into the wee hours of the morning because that ending…Whew! Totally worth it! I do recommend this book and I look forward to the next.
Why (Stalker Series book 2) by Megan Mitcham is definitely a page turner. Gen is a fiery prosecutor who lives to win court battles. She has taken on the case of her mentor, Perry Carter, who has been accused of murdering his wife and children. She is confident that he never committed such a crime, but then he starts getting back to his life sooner than they had discussed. It isn’t sitting right with her how he is just moving on as if his life hadn’t been turned upside down so she decided to start following him. Maybe sticking her nose where it didn’t belong wasn’t such a good idea after all. With many twists and turns as well as lies and betrayals, this one will keep you on your toes.
This is the second book in a series, and I’d reccomend reading the first one before “Why.” I think I liked this one even better than the first. It has the author’s fun writing style that hooked me in her book “Who,” with a story I found more interesting. I really enjoyed Genevieve’s character and was excited when I realized this book was about her.
Why (Stalker Series Book 2) by Megan Mitcham was a great 5 star read.
The story starts with Genevieve representing her mentor and boss in court. He is being accused of killing his family, a family that she has known personally. She gets a lot of heat representing him but she ends up winning the case.
There is also a detective that has gotten her attention following the case. He was on the other side and had warned her that she was representing a killer. You could feel their attraction coming off the pages. When Perry starts to act differently she starts to watch him closer. This is when she runs into the detective once again.
Could Perry be guilty? What will she find out?
And, will Genevieve and the hot detective get together for more than a conversation?
Overall I really enjoyed this read. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time trying to figure things out right along with Genevieve. All the secondary characters added a great element to the story. I really like the friends that she has, they are very supportive of her. If you are looking for a great thrilling read, this is the series for you. Each book can be read as a stand alone. 1-click and get started today.
Why (Stalker Series Book 2) by Megan Mitcham was a great addition to the series. I love a good crime solver. The plot was super intense and had a lot of my favorite types of twists and turns. Genevieve and Owen were both well developed and I loved their chemistry. I applauded Genevieve’s moral compass and her strength to follow her gut. I cannot wait to see what happens next in this series.
Why by Megan Mitcham is the second book in the Stalker Series. I loved reading the first book in this series, and this book did not disappoint. Why is a standalone novel and the author does a wonderful job writing this psychological suspenseful thriller. Genevieve Holst is a kick ass prosecutor who has an undefeated track record. She chances on trying the other side of the law by defending her boss is accused of murdering his wife and children. Then she catches her boss sneaking off to meet a woman. Is she willing to defend a possible killer? Genevieve must decide between her career or bringing her boss to justice.
Why (Stalker Series Book 2) by Megan Mitcham is a Psychological thriller at its best. It will keep you on the edge of your seat from the start to the end and will have your heart pumping. Megan is one of those writers that gets inside your head and makes you think is this real or what is hiding in the shadows or where is she taking me. I was constantly on my toes and I felt like I had run a marathon by the time I had finished. Even though you don’t have to, I would read the books in order. If ever there should be a movie made these books would be in the running. Megan’s words pop of the page and the psychological aspect is palpable and so, so vivid. The characters are strong successful women and together they take the world by storm, but they are the truest of friends. I would say that this is one of the best books I’ve read this year!
Wow! Another great one that keeps you glued to the pages! Another one ai shouldn’t have read alone in a darkish building! Great Author can’t wait to read more. I won’t be reading them in the building alone though!
Why (Stalker Series Book 2) by Megan Mitcham
5 of 5 Stars
Why is book two in Megan Mitcham’s ‘Stalker series’ but can be read as a standalone story. It is a suspenseful courtroom thriller. Prosecutor Genevieve Holst loves the thrill of putting the bad guys behind bars and she owes her undefeated court record to her boss and mentor, Perry. Genevieve is shocked when Perry is accused of murdering his wife and children and straightaway works at defending him in court. Her undefeated record continues and Perry is found not guilty however Genevieve begins to wonder is she was right to believe in Perry as his behaviour becomes more and more suspicious. Guilt ridden at the thought she may have ensured a killer went free she begins her own investigation, by following her mentor and in the process runs into the NYPD Detective Owen Graham who told her not to take the case. Genevieve must decide between saving her career and letting an almost-certain killer go free or risk everything to bring Perry to justice.
I loved this psychology thriller which had plenty of suspense and as the blurb says, it really is an “ edge-of-your seat thrill ride”. I found Genevieve a perfect leading character, she is a strong, sassy and tenacious heroine who is likeable and realistic. I found the drama of the courtroom parts gripping and I liked the hint of romance with Owen as well. I found this to be an exciting read with a great fast paced storyline which kept me hooked from page one until the very last page. I look forward to further books in this ‘Stalker’ series.
Why by Megan Mitcham is the second book in the Stalker Series. This is a great series because they do not have to be read consecutively. Prosecutor Genevieve Holst is a successful attorney and has gotten into an awkward case of having to defend her mentor, Perry. Was it a wise decision to make the move to the other side and defend Perry? Things are not adding up and she has to find out why.
I like these books because they are suspenseful and smartly thought out. Genevieve is a smart and interesting character. She has a lot to deal with because she is trying to figure out if she just saved a guilty man who also happens to be close to her. This has a great storyline and the story reads quickly. I really like the flow and did not want to put the book down. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
Why (Stalker Series Book 2) by Megan Mitcham
5 Stars
This is my second book by this author and I think I liked this one even more than the first, this is one of my chosen genres and I get so immersed in the story that I lose all track of time. I loved the suspense and danger that was a part of this story, and you could actually read this as a standalone but the first one gave a lot that helps understand parts of this story.
I Love Gen…she is strong and holds a position of power, and when her and Owen Teamed up it brought the story to a whole new level…. When someone you trust all of a sudden becomes someone you don’t know, it’s time to figure things out. This is when the story pulls in the fear and danger, twists, turns, and sitting on the edge of my seat…I read this literally in one sitting, I could not put it down and truly did not want it to end.
I loved Gen’s friends..that whole group was awesome and their bonds were tight and I love that in a novel!
I can not wait for the next in this series and I also can not wait to read all of these back to back all over again! This author is amazing and her stories are spot on!
I give Why (Stalker Series Book 2) by Megan Mitcham
The second book in the series, this book switches focus to Genevieve, the prosecutor who defended her good friend and boss against the murder of his family. Then she begins to doubt his innocence. What is great about this book, is that you see her go from being this strong female New York attorney to questioning everything and everyone she’s ever know. She lets us in this way. This makes her endearing. Honestly, she is not someone I probably would associate with in the beginning of the book. It’s just not my style. But the more she questions, the more human and likable she becomes. Although you never once question her group of friends and what they mean to each other – that is obvious. Then there is the story itself. The deeper she goes to try to find the answers, the more trouble she finds herself in. And the more she has to learn to trust others — something she hasn’t done in ages.
The story is gripping and exciting, there is a flare of these two characters who may feel something, but she has to give a little. Overall, this is a good, gripping romantic suspense and I would recommend this book. It can be read as a standalone, but I suggest reading them all since they are so well done.
Why (Stalker Series Book 2)
by Megan Mitcham
Wow what a riveting story!! I thoroughly enjoyed every nail biting moment. Gen, a very successful attorney has just defended her friend, boss, and mentor of murder charges. Right after he is set free is where things start to take a more interesting turn. Gen is starting to doubt the man she defended. The author did an excellent job of putting me through a psychological roller coaster that I just couldn’t get enough of. This book kept me on the edge of my seat, it was full of mystery, twists and turns, danger, suspense, some romance and more. I feel like I am not able to find the right words to give this book justice. I will say this, I stood up all night reading this because I could not put it down!! This is a must read!! I highly recommend this book.
Why (Stalker Series Book 2) by Megan Mitcham is the second book that i have read by this author and i thought it was really really good. I couldn’t put this book down because it pulled me in from the very first page and didn’t let me go until the very end. Suspenseful, Mysterious and Violent, this crime novel kept me on my toes in suspense. This one was about Genevieve “Gen” Holst. She is a prosecuting attorney who wants to make up for a terrible thing that happened to her sister. Gen thinks she doing the right thing by defending her boss in court for the murder of his wife and children. His behavior, both past and present are unexpected for the situation and she begins to see the case(and him) in a new way. I was on the edge of my seat and i enjoyed every minute of this book. I don’t normally read this genre but i loved it. I am looking forward reading more by this author and i would recommend this to anyone who like suspenseful and dramatic crime novels!
Happy Reading!
This is the second book in the Stalker Series but it can be a standalone novel. I highly recommend the first book as well. Megan Mitcham draws the reader right into her stories. With her characters who you can relate to and her story line that keeps you on the edge of your seat it will hook you from the first sentence until the last sentence. Being that this is a psychological novel you would expect some curves in the story, but man there were times I did not see the curve coming. It is a fast read but make sure you do not read too fast and miss the clues to see what will happen next. I highly recommend this book. Megan Mitcham is an author to watch.
This was a great second book in the stalker series.
This story follows Gen who is a really successful attorney. Her career is great and she is called upon to defent her long term friend and mentor.
Her friend Perry comes home to find his wife and children murdered and he is arrested as the prime suspect.
Gen goes in and proves his innocence or so she thinks and his is released and found not guilty.
Was that the right outcome or was her dear best friend guilty of this horrible crime.
Gen sets out to find out the truth one way or the other. Does she risk her career or leave a guilty man to roam around free.
It was a gripping story i couldnt put down.
