Jack Reardon uncovers secrets for a living, and the Meta-State spy is pretty good at it. Or rather he thought so until he met Ethan Blade—assassin, warrior, enigma. The unlikely pair have decided to give living together a shot, but Jack’s not entirely certain what he’s gotten himself into—or exactly who he’s in it with.Jack’s worries are compounded when he’s assigned to a police strike force … force hunting a serial killer. With each new puzzle piece, Jack considers the true nature of a serial killer—and how similar it is to an assassin. To one particular assassin who’s having trouble adjusting to retirement. Jack’s unsure how to help Ethan—or if he even can.
When the killer strikes close to home, Jack must race against the clock to stop another murder, despite the price someone has put on his head. Could the matters be connected? Is a certain assassin at the centre of both? Surrounded by killers, the only one Jack wants near disappears, leaving Jack drowning in secrets. He’ll have to do what he does best—unravel the secrets, including Ethan’s—to stop the killer and save the life he and Ethan have only just begun to build.

Shout out to Fabi for actively enabling my book addiction! I treasure you! Lol!! Also, you HAVE to read the 4 novellas between Book #1 and this book.
This is actually my favourite so far and I know what you might be thinking but its not because of the kiss. hehehe.
Its my current favourite because of the emotional growth that our MCs underwent. ESPECIALLY Jack who as we know can be selfish even in the face of the vulnerability that is Ethan. Jack one again was so focused on work he completely missed the signs till everything went tits up as usual.Fortunately though, he got his head out if his butt and began to make things right.
Another thing I loved about this story was how convoluted everything was. I assure you that you won’t be sure about the identity of the killer till its revealed and I can also assure you that you would want to kill them yourself after it is explained how truly psychopathic they really are.
Nevertheless, I loved every moment of this and can’t wait for the final book, especially after all those hints were given in the epilogue/Coda!
This book is a rollercoaster of emotions. I love this series and this book is the best one yet. We are back to the past and present format(before and after). And it kept on the edge of my seat.
We get to know more about Ethan’s background and it broke my heart when I read about his past. Jack and Ethan has a grown a lot in their relationship. But it frustrated me a lot because they still haven’t talked about a lot of things. And I loved Rocco and Shorty the dog. Ethan is my cinnamon roll and I just want to hug him so bad. And Jack, there was a time when I wanted to kill him myself but then it all got sorted out. I love the how the author leaves those little cliffhangers at the end of each chapter. Also it happened. The thing that we have been waiting for. I can’t wait for the next book!!! All I have to say is READ IT!

The Death and the Devil series has held me firmly by the throat since this spring. Looking back, it’s hard to believe that I was as on the fence about it as I was after the first book. Now, two novels and four novellas in, Ethan and Jack have become one of my very favorite couples who I simply can’t get enough of. Heading up to this release, I was incredibly excited to finally see the couple living together and making an attempt at a functional, committed relationship. I should have known Miss Hayward would never make it that easy. While I definitely got some looks into the life I envisioned for these two, it wasn’t without plenty of strife, fights, gun battles, and car chases.
Why the Devil Stalks Death vacillates between two timelines, and while it is a little jarring at first, the transitions are clearly notated and work to reveal the event that led to the new trouble Ethan and Jack find themselves in. Once again, the action and suspense had me glued to my book and the twists kept me guessing from start to finish. While I wasn’t completely expecting Why the Devil Stalks Death to go the way it did, I loved it and couldn’t have envisioned a better ending for these boys. Plus I got what I’ve been waiting months for- and it was everything I hoped it would be and more. For now and until I hear otherwise, I’ll be hoping there may be a few more adventures for this couple yet.
