Whom Shall I Kiss… An Earl, A Marquess, or A Duke? (Tricking the Scoundrels #1)
By: Laura A. Barnes
5 out of 5 stars
The story Whom Shall I Kiss… An Earl, A Marquess, or A Duke? (Tricking the Scoundrels #1) by Laura A. Barnes is a wonderful historical romance book. I loved the storyline and the characters. The story pulls you in and I found myself not wanting to put it down until I had finished the last page. I loved reading about the character of Sidney Hartridge. Sidney is a young woman who doesn’t always go by the rules. She wants to prove a theory about the antics of men. What will happen when she begins to have a strong attraction and pull towards one of the men in her project? Read this book to find out. Sidney Hartridge’s character is one that is likable, and I found myself caring about her and wanting her to find happiness. I also enjoyed reading about Noah Wildeburg. He is a man that finds he has an attraction to Sidney. He is known as a scoundrel. Does he have a chance to win her heart? This is a book that has romantic scenes that are swoon worthy. The author has written a wonderful story with unforgettable characters. I would highly recommend reading this book.
This is romantic, amusing, unpredictable and thrilling. Sidney decides that she will conduct an experiment aimed at exposing just how far gentlemen will go, no matter their rank, to ruin a lady for sport. Sophia, her best friend, offers to help Sidney with her research. The first of the 3 men is Lord Sheffield, a duke. Sheffield is a pompous, smug, determined and unscrupulous a** who is only in the game to compete with his friend. The second man is Lord Wildeburg, is the Marquess, and the friend Sheffield is competing against. Wilde is a rake of the worst sort, he uses his charm and good looks to seduce whoever he wants, with no remorse. The third man is Lord Beckwith, an Earl and a friend. Things won’t be as easy as Sidney thinks they will be, because the men all react off of each other and each becomes determined to win her, when only one actually wants to marry her. There are games played, reputations disparaged and lies told. The courtships range from sweet to overbearing, and none are dull. I loved this and found it impossible to put down.

Whom Shall I Kiss? Oh I think all three to see which one is the most sigh worthy! Laura Barnes has created a delightful story that I cannot wait to continue on in this series! The heroine Sidney forms a scandalous plan (although she did not think it all out!) to see if the men of the ton would actually protect her honor if they put her in a compromising situation. Having seen them ruin many a lady, she wants to teach them a lesson! She chooses three gentlemen to lure into kissing her to see what would happened. Oh the mind of a bluestocking that does not think ahead!
Well the best laid plans go astray when all three begin wooing her and she gets caught in her own trap! Who will it be and what will happen!
I laughed and sighed as I turned the pages and just could not wait to see what happened. Really enjoyed this story so much and I know you will too. Cannot wait to read more by this author!!
It was such a pleasure to read this wonderfully written story! I loved Sidney such a different character she is as crafty as the hero of the story. I love when I read a book that has me so caught up in it that I lose time and this charmer did just that. I am so looking for to Sophia story now. An excellent piece of work! I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This is delightful story of a young Lady Sidney Hartridge. Her father is an advisor to the Crown and has let Sidney help him in his studies of scientific nature and human behavior. Now she had decided
to have her own research on how gentleman of the ton prey on young women, then leave then ruined. She had picked out three man for her experiment. the Earl Roderick Beckwith, who is a childhood friend and works with her father. The Marquess Noah Wildeburg was not one she chose but decided to use as he is known in the ton to be a Hugh rake. And the Duke of Sheffield, who is having her father research property for him and has a number of talks with her. Without really seeing her as anything other then a mousy, plain girl with glassse’s.
Her best friend Sophia, helps her along the way trying to keep her out of trouble.
What Sidney fells to think about is how she is going to feel with all three man trying to woo her.
How these three man and her work thru all the twist and turns, will have you laughing out loud, getting mad at some for the underhanded ways, and feeling sorry of others.
Your going to love it. I received and ARC of this story, and read it in one day.
I can’t wait for Sophia’s story.
The story was cute and so well written the time flew by. You will really enjoy this book and Sidney’s research/experiment.
While reading this book, I think I fell in love with all the gentlemen… the Earl, the Marquess and the Duke. At times I wished I was Sidney.
This was the first time reading Laura A. Barnes, it definitely will NOT be my last.
I can not wait for Sophia story…
What a wonderful read. This book had me hooked from the first line. Sidney is a wonderful character, so different from most heroines. I enjoyed the fact that Sidney was the one playing the game although our hero’s also had their own game going. Ms Barnes had you guessing what would happen next, with a little adventure thrown in. Sophia was also a wonderful character and am looking forward to her story with all the mystery surrounding her. This book was really full of romance and love. There were a couple of sex scenes and this reviewer skipped them as usual but it didn’t affect my enjoyment of this book. I received this book as an ARC.
Loved it!
Read this and had to read the rest of the series. Loved them
Whom Shall I Kiss…An Earl, A Marquess, or a Duke? By Laura Barnes is a historical romance story. The flow of the story is a nice and steady pace. Barnes puts a lot of effort into making the story match the time period she is writing about. The characters are so descriptive that you feel like you are in the same era as they are. The story is about Sidney Hartridge and her theory. She wants to kiss these three men and find out which one would protect her honor. Things didn’t go as planned. What happens to the theory? What happens to her honor? What would you do if your father agrees to suiter that is apart of your theory test subjects?
Whom Shall I kiss… An Earl, A Marquess, or A Duke?
By Laura A. Barnes
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
This was such a cute book! The story could have gone on a little longer for me so that the characters could have more development, but I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Sidney is such an awesome character. I love how she is doing research on men to discover how they act and react to different situations involving a woman they are pursuing. The fact that she is doing this in the time period she lives in, where women are supposed to just stay home and keep their husbands happy, makes her that much more an amazing woman.
At first I was conflicted on who I wanted her to be with but the more and more I saw her interactions with Wilde, the more I wanted her to choose him and fall in love. Wilde as well as Sheffield are both horrible men, but you can see the change in Wilde. Sheffield is just nasty beginning to end. I wish we could have seen more of Rory, one of her best friends.
Overall a fantastic first book. I can’t wait until the second book to see what is in store for Sidney’s best friend Sophia. I feel like there may be something going on with her and Sheffield, and the story there seems to be very interesting. I would love to see more of Rory too.
Whom Shall I Kiss… An Earl, A Marquess, or A Duke? (Tricking the Scoundrels Book 1)
by Laura A. Barnes
I found this book to be charming and original. This story was very entertaining and I found myself laughing at some antics that go on. I loved Lady Sydney Hartridge character, she is intelligent and a bit quirky. I am sure that when she decided to move forward with her experiment that she never thought of what would happen if there were any feelings involved. This book had me turning pages to find out more about these wonderful characters. I laughed, I got angry and I was rooting for a good outcome for my favorite characters. You must read to find out if this experiment causes more of a scandal. This is a fun read, I recommend this book, can’t wait to read the next one.
I am not typically a fan of Regency Romance but this seemed like it would be a lighthearted read with a clever protagonist. The blurb set the story up nicely and I imagined it would be more of a satirical look at what happens with ruined reputations. It was not satirical in nature at all.
The story starts out strong. The plot is well thought out and the characters are easy to distinguish. While I realize this is fiction and with that truths can be twisted and reformed; there was just something about this book that seemed to contradict itself as the story moved forward.
I always admire an author who can put words to paper and follow a thought long enough to create a whole story (or series in this case). This book just wasn’t my cup of tea
I have really enjoyed reading this story! It’s So So Good! This isn’t my first book by this author but I think it’s her best. She really was able to keep my interest through the whole story. Her characters were lively and I really just wanted to know who would Sidney end up with. The shift between each characters storytelling was so seamless! The best I have seen in awhile. I loved reading this from everyone’s POV.
Each of the main characters brought something to the story. The haughtiness, the best friend and the scoundrel all were great. The inquisitiveness of Sidney was perfect for her role as well. Her girl friend was a lovely addition as well. She is stout and ready for anything that Sidney would suggest. I’m sure something happened with Sophie at the brothel and I look forward to finding out in her book. I’m not sure if the male character will be able to be redeemed but I am sure this author will give it a good try.
This is a wonderful historical romance where the female lead is looking to change a few things about the women in her period. Does she succeed? I can’t say but it was terribly enjoyable finding out.
Whom Shall I Kiss…An Earl, A Marquess, or a Duke? (Tricking the Scoundrels Book 1) by author Laura A. Barnes tells the story of Sidney Hartridge, a bluestocking, living in Regency London, after watching her acquaintances get ruined by scoundrels Sidney decides to run a little experiment herself to see whom she can expose to the Ton as a scoundrel. As we all know, in the fictional world, nothing ever goes as planned. She doesn’t count on one of her targets being the man of her dreams.
This was a cute premise for a story, unfortunately the author lost my attention a time or two and while I liked the heroine she was at times, annoying. I enjoyed her best friend Sophia the most and I really want a Sophia of my own. This was an interesting story and I am looking forward to reading Sophia’s book to see who she ends up with.
Whom Shall I Kiss… An Earl, A Marquess, or A Duke? (Tricking the Scoundrels Book 1) By Laura A. Barnes. I didn’t immediately sink into this story but once I did I was hooked. The characters are great and the storyline was really fun to read. At times I was a bit confused but it didn’t lessen my enjoyment of this story. The characters are complex and relatable. This isn’t normally my favorite genre but this author has brought me some enjoyment of of it more than once. I’m excited to see more from this series hopefully because it’s got a lot of promise. I’m giving this story a four star review and recommend you give it a try.
