This is a good romance with some suspense.
I liked the characters and storyline but was a little disappointed by the ending. The romance between John and Vicki is great and the mystery and suspense is so gripping that I stayed up half the night to finish which is why I feel kind of cheated that there was no resolution on an important part of the plot. This was probably the author’s way of providing a chilling twist (and it was!) except that I didn’t get closure on that part of the story. I suppose it’s possible there will be resolution in the next book but since it’s focused on a different couple, it doesn’t seem likely. Overall this is an enjoyable read. 3.75 stars.
** spoiler alert ** She is determined to find herself, he is trying to come to grips with his new realities. Will crushes turn to love?
LOVED this read. I loved the fact that she was determined to not live off the money she got and to start finding who she was under everyone else’s opinions. I loved how he didn’t let what happened to him slow him down and he was determined to do everything he could to protect those around him! Great read!
Can Vicky and john have a happily ever after? They had a crush on each other all their lifes but they only shard a kiss before he went away with the Marine. Now Vicky is divorced and trying to readjust to her new life and John is back home after his injury. When they met again the connection is strong but someone wants to hurt Vicky. Will they find the culprit and finally be together?
Loved this story. I have read most of the book in this series and I think this one is my favourite
So beautifully written.
Loved the characters and their journey together.
Detailed exciting storyline with lots of drama, suspense, and awesome chemistry.
I highly recommend this book.
Cant wait for the next one
I received an author’s copy and have left an honest review
John Lawrence has loved Vicki Masterson all his life but didn’t think it was meant to be. He joined the Marines but is now home with a prosthetic leg and lots of self-doubt. Vicki is recovering from a divorce and has her own self-doubt but also has feelings for John. As they both wind up working for her grandmother’s company can they overcome their doubts and build something together. That is if they survive as someone comes after Vicki.
I got a copy of this book free from Hidden Gems in exchange for an honest review. While it was a good book, there were some errors that took away from the storyline for me. Those included mostly grammatical errors and typos but there was also at least one inconsistency. Otherwise, I enjoyed the book and characters for the most part. There were times I wondered at their actions. There’s also a bit of a cliffhanger at the ending.
This is a very enjoyable story. There are many ups and downs. Along with some scary times. Each characters has their own self doubt to deal with. But that kiss….in the kitchen….so HOT! Not a first kiss but still WOW! This author does an amazing job making these characters come to life. I zip right through then usually can’t wait to read the next one.
One of my favorite things about this story….the one-liners!! John and his military buds use one liners to pick up women. Vicki likes them too so they banter back and forth using them. There are a ton! Made the story more fun!
I loved all the secondary characters. They added some fun and levity to the story. Of course I can’t wait to see what happens next with Bray.
I did listen to this on audio. Meghan Kelly is so wonderful and easy to listen to.
A great first book in a series. Just enough drama, action and romance to keep you hooked. Loved this book and can’t wait for more.
John, who has loved Vicki since he was 8 years old, meets up with her after his return from Iraq where he lost part of his one leg. This fact he tries to hide from everyone except his closest friends.
Vicki realizes that she is falling in love with him and there are some very amusing scenes when they try to get amorous but keep on being interrupted.
Then there is a pretty hectic mystery to be solved, a car bomb explosion, an ex husband and his mother to contend with, some pretty supportive and sometimes very amusing friends and the outspoken and really lovable grandmother, as well as a bit of heat in this well written and enjoyable book.
It is one of those stories that I personally wished would go on and on – I enjoyed it that much.
Meghan Kelly has done another outstanding narration and brings her amazing repertoire into play with wonderful results.
I love everything about this audiobook and highly recommend it!
