Matt Kile, ex-cop and ex-con, current smart-aleck, and a neighbor of Mr. and Mrs. Talmadge has built himself a comfortable career writing mysteries. Garson Talmadge sold weapons to Saddam Hussein, then moved out of France, came to America and married Clarice, a woman half his age. When Clarice is arrested for murdering her husband, Matt becomes the investigator for her defense attorney, and … quickly learns there is a line of suspects stretching from the U.S. into Europe and the Middle East.
Not long after getting involved in the case Matt learns that Garson Talmadge’s weapons deals meant the FBI had an interest as well as the French Prefecture of Police. While Matt is simply trying to establish that Clarice is innocent, the FBI is trying to learn how Hussein got some of his weaponry, and powerful members of the French government and armaments industry wants to keep Matt from following the trail far enough to expose them.
Told in the first person, Matt shares his thoughts and wise remarks as he weaves his way through a mass of plot twists and turns to its conclusion, and learns Who Murdered Garson Talmadge.

Good first book in the series.
I liked the characters and the twists. Whenever I thought I had figured out what was going to happened, I was wrong.
I have enjoyed all of the David Bishop books I have read.
I’m a fan of this author, have read most, if not all of books in this series. Find them entertaining-little humor, mostly mystery, stand alone stories that build upon characters without feeling lost if you haven’t read one of others in series.
Great.
GREAT BOOK!!
Scary to think this is possible.
Liked it well enough that I downloaded the sequel. Great writer.
Enjoyed this book very much. Entertaining, witty and fun to read. If this is his first in the Matt Kile series, I am inclined to seek out subsequent novels by David Bishop.
This is the first book I have read by this author and definitely plan on reading more. Great plot!!
Funny in parts. Didn’t want to put it down. A good twist with Susan
I like David Bishop ‘s different way of describing things that are often written crassly to titilate the reader. An easy, but entertaining read.
David Bishop is one of my favorite ‘new’ authors. Like his other books, the story flows and the pages turn.
I guess this was supposed to be a hard-boiled detective novel, but I found the main character’s chauvinism distasteful and it detracted from the storyline. It’s really not necessary to describe women’s female attributes in detail–and, of course, they were all voluptuous, gorgeous, sexually aggressive and anxious to hop into bed with the main …
It was an ok story.
Wasn’t sure who until the end .
The writing is a tad clunky (not that I could do better), but the characters are interesting and the plot engaging.
Recommend this book for guys who like mysteries with a macho sex-obsessrd hero. I’m sure not a prude but the pretty-constant references to his interest and intentions (the bicycle riding thing got old, fast) detracted from the otherwise engaging story line.
I was not really engrossed with this book. I had a hard time keeping my attention
I enjoyed t h e ok o t but kind of l get you hanging at t h e end.
