Daniel and Anne-Marie’s marriage isn’t just on the rocks, it’s about to go six feet under. Anne-Marie Mills is out of work, out of love and out of whisky. Everyone else is out of patience. When Anne-Marie is found dead who is to blame? The neighbours who despised her drunken rants? The husband who wondered how much more he could take? Or is there another killer in the neighbourhood?
Weirdly interesting, but couldn’t find a single character to root for. Awful people.
Good story line with enough suspense to hold your interest.
I didn’t like the plot very well.
Loved it!
Dysfunctional and bleak.
Deeply depressing read.
Great characterizations and plot
The book is hard to put down, because you want to find our who killed her. You just might be surprised at the ending…
Sad, lonely characters that should have been able to talk things through in real life. Unfortunately they only “thought” what they wanted to say and never uttered a word of real encouragement. Would not want to have been their neighbors! Did not anticipate the ending. Well written but a bit slow in some parts.
In about the third or fourth chapter I was readoyto kill Anne-Marie. Annoying characters, didn’t care what happened to them. Will never reread.
I am one that if I am not devoted by the second chapter of a story, I just can’t get into it. Unfortunately, this book is one of them. I tried to read it, but the husband was very “poor pitiful me”. I couldn’t understand why he couldn’t just stand up for himself and do something . I liked the idea of the book, and I hope for other readers they can get through it. I couldn’t keep torturing myself to continue reading it.
I didnt like this book at all, dreaded finishing it but kept hoping it would get better…..wrong
Did not like this book. Was not very interesting and too slow for me.
Every character was dark. My soul was hurt by the time I finished reading — every person was deeply hurting and living out of pain. (The author did a great job capturing that.)
The ending felt abrupt. It was as if even the author was tired of dealing with these people. The story wasn’t much of a mystery, but more like an uncomfortable game of Clue, wherein everyone was a potential suspect & no one was worth cheering for.
Started out well, but after Anne-Marie died not much happened. There was a lot of filler and I found myself skimming a lot.
Got a bit repetitive & after a while I just wanted to know how it ends. I still recommend this book. It’s a good story! Loved the characters (or not as the case may be!) … some of them are easy to dislike but that is the mark of a good writer.
The storyline was decent but I did not like the way the author drug out a lot of the situations. I wound up skipping chapters at a time. I did want to finish it to find out the ending but it did not make me want to run back and pick it up.
enjoyed it
Extremely depressing. None of the characters were likeable.
I only got a couple of chapters in. It was so depressing and kept dragging, just a frustrating read. I rarely give up and don’t finish a book, but I had to put this one down.
I’m sorry but I just couldn’t stick with this book. I’m sure it’s a great story but just could not hold my attention.
