“Everyone likes a page-turner, and Follett is the best.” —The Philadelphia Inquirer“A hell of a storyteller” (Entertainment Weekly), #1 New York Times bestselling author Ken Follett reinvents the thriller with each new novel. But nothing matches the intricate knife-edge drama of Whiteout. . . . A missing canister of a deadly virus. A lab technician bleeding from the eyes. Toni Gallo, the … technician bleeding from the eyes. Toni Gallo, the security director of a Scottish medical research firm, knows she has problems, but she has no idea of the nightmare to come.
As a Christmas Eve blizzard whips out of the north, several people, Toni among them, converge on a remote family house. All have something to gain or lose from the drug developed to fight the virus. As the storm worsens, the emotional sparks—jealousies, distrust, sexual attraction, rivalries—crackle; desperate secrets are revealed; hidden traitors and unexpected heroes emerge. Filled with startling twists at every turn, Whiteout rockets Follett into a class by himself.

While many people would think that reading about someplace warm would be the thing in a snowstorm, I prefer to go with atmospheric so Whiteout by Ken Follett which involves being snowed in as part of the thriller would be one choice. Ken Follett knows how to write and I like everything that he has done.
It’s poignant reading a book about a virus. Written in 2004, but reading it in 2020 gives it a lot of impact! I’ve read almost everything that Ken Follett has ever written. And while it did not rank as high for me as some of his others, his master storytelling still puts it head and shoulders among many other writers’ books.
I love mysteries and thrillers that take place in snow storms.
Classic Ken Follett thriller, a timely story for the pandemic era.
Good read. Found the ending a bit unbelievable!
Follett is one of my all-time favorite authors, and he did not disappoint with Whiteout. He writes so well and has such good plots, it makes reading easy, it makes you want to gallop to the end, but sorry to see it end. Great read,
Loved it
A quick entertaining read
Not Follett’s best, but it kept my interest.
boring, trite.formularic
In general Follett is a terrific author, with my favorite being the early ones like Eye of the Needle and Key to Rebecca. This was less gripping and just an OK effort. You can do a lot better with virtually any other Follett book.
To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from this book (I prefer Follett’s historical novels to his thrillers). So imagine my surprise when I found I couldn’t stop reading it. It’s not quite a medical thriller, not quite a techno thriller, and not quite a terrorist thriller, but the book does weave a terrific blend of all three.
The main characters are a little flat and predictable, but it’s a thriller and you’re more likely reading for the twists and turns and action and outsmarting the bad guy, and you’ll get plenty of that in Whiteout.
Short and sweet and suspenseful. A heist takes place in a facility working on cures for deadly viruses. Can’t find a cure without having the deadly virus on hand. It’s the viruses the thieves want. The plan goes awry because of a snowstorm and the thieves end up in a home full of a family celebrating Christmas. Then things really unravel. Incredibly entertaining.
Ken Follett, hands down my favorite author. Everything he has published is top shelf reading.
Follett always does his research and his plots are believable. Always a good read.
Ken Follett’s books are usually a good read and this was no exception. The romance between a much older man and a beautiful and intelligent young woman stretches credibility a little, though.
This adventure rang so true-to-life – everything from the science behind the new development at its centre to the evocation of the winter landscape in Scotland and the old country house with its yard, outbuildings and dark triangles of attic (not unlike one which I know well, in fact). The tensions among a present-day successful family are finely spun, and only too realistic…
The characters were authentic and frightening.
Not one of Ken Follette’s best Books, but still an entertaining read and better than most other books. I have a high bar for Mr Follett because I am such a fan of his historical fictions.
True to style, this book was well researched and read realistically. A great read, if a little predictable.
ENJOYABLE READ BUT GOT PREDICTABLE CLOSE TO END.
