Just when you get out… husband, Phineas Troutt, Jack reluctantly straps on her gun and goes hunting. Hunting for the worst of the worst.
This leads to a trek across the Great Plains, searching for a modern slavery ring, on a collision course with three of the most horrible villains Jack has ever faced.
But Jack, and her irritating buddy Harry McGlade, will face them, and much more. Because they’re prepared to go to hell and back to rescue an old friend.
The trick will be getting back in one piece. And—spoiler alert—they don’t.

So depressing I couldn’t finish it. It’s not often I can’t force myself to finish a book but this one just didn’t click with me.
I’ve read a lot from this author, but this book was totally disappointing. This book did not deserve to get published.
4 stars for another Jack Daniels rescue mission, similar to Last Call the previous book in the series. Some of the events in the previous book form part of the narrative in this book and you would understand this one better if you read Last Call first. This book also ties into the next book in the series, Shot Girl. If you read Last Call first, and are upset that some characters die, then you will like this book. There are pretty gruesome descriptions of torture/violence. There are also some humorous exchanges between 3 characters, whom I can’t name because it would be a spoiler for Last Call. I recommend that you start with book 1 in this series Whiskey Sour and read them in order. Most of the books are violent and not for cozy mystery fans.
I read the first two chapters but, unfortunately I got bored.
Not my favorite Jack Daniels story: too much violence, not enough story. Rushed ending.
I didn’t care for it. Foul language and it was dark
This book is too vivid for an 85 yr old woman. I pray to God these things don”t happen for real.
Just couldn’t get into the characters. Guess it just wasn’t for me.
This book was so boring that I skimmed through to the end before I had read 25% of it. It was also gross and gruesome. Over the years I have read many a gruesome story, but this was just nasty gross.
Story could have been good but some of the characters were disgusting, couldn’t get through early chapters
Book was rather disorganized. Character deoment was not sharp
The book was too graphic and violent.
Did not like this book at all. Way too dark and disturbing.
Gave up on this one a third of the way through. It failed to develop characters I cared about or present a believable story. Violence was unnecessary and excessive. Not my type of book…
Violent
I quit reading about 1/3 of the way in. It jumped around so much I was having trouble keeping track of which character was which. Maybe if I had more time to read in a session it would be better. Too bad, I’ve enjoyed Konrath’s books before.
Waste of my time. It was so stupid I quit at 60%.
I put this one down after about 15% on my reader. It is badly written and the author keeps throwing in random bizarre things to see if he can shock us some more. I think some humor is intended ala Carl Hiassen but the author falls miserably short.
You can never go wrong with a ” Jack Daniels book. If you have never read one start at the beginning and work your way through. They are addicting.
Great writing by this author. Plenty of twist and great characters found it difficult to put down at times.
