When Octavia Hanes, who is struggling from memory loss, returns to her childhood home in the remote town of Roseberg, Sweden, she begins suffering from horrible hallucinations.Desperate to find answers, she seeks comfort in the arms of her old friend Hayden, who still lives just on the other side of the creepy lake where she nearly drowned at age ten.As she slowly tries to uncover what the … uncover what the hallucinations mean, she realises the accident may have never been an accident after all, and the house holds terrible secrets someone desperately wanted her to forget.
Why did she lose her memory after the accident? What had happened in the house? Was her family life really as happy and loving as she has been told?
Convinced that she is in fact uncovering important memories, not going mad, Octavia must face her biggest nightmares to get to the bottom of the missing pieces of her life.
A Psychological Thriller with a Romance-Suspense Twist

I loved that this novel did not follow the typical mystery/romance ‘formula’. It was a very compelling story that immediately drew me in. Not only is this a very well-written book with wonderfully-interesting characters, but the suspense builds at just the right pace as the story unfolds.

Whispers of the past: A Psychological Thriller (Family Secrets Book 1) by Cora Clark
I liked the story until the end which a lot like a cliffhanger. The main two characters are well developed. The pace starts out slowly, building the mood, then picks up it’s pace. Unfortunately, the story ends abruptly without answering the most important questions about Octavia’s family. I would have liked the author to have written a couple more chapters to avoid the feeling of a cliffhanger. I know she continues the story in book 2 but the abrupt ending ruined the storyline for me. I don’t know if I’m willing to pay for book 2 to see what happens with the father.

I thought this is just a so-so book but it really didn’t instill the feeling of wanting to continue reading the series. I appreciate being given the opportunity to read an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Wish I could give a better review but like I said before it just didn’t instill a feeling of “What’s going to happen next?”
Mystery for sure. Octavia is having nightmares, are they memories? Creepy sounds coming from within the house, shadows. Are they real? All in all a true mystery with moments of creepiness that has you looking over your shoulder. Some light romance with an old child hood friend and *ew* factor towards the end. This had the possibility for an off the chart read, except I was waiting for a deeper understanding of Hayden and if Ocatavia’s uncle. I am not sure if there is a book 2, if so this might just be the ground work. The other part I had trouble with was the ending. I kept thinking my kindle didn’t down load the complete story and some issues were not resolved. Again if there is a book 2 that might explain some. This was a first time author for me. Thank you for the arc Cora Clark and StoryOrigin. Here’s hoping there is a book 2, I need a resolution. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.
Intriguing and a tad creepy with a hint of romance thrown in. Very quick lazy day read.
This is an intriguing story with strong characters in Octavia and Hayden. The author brings a bit of everything in this story. It has bit of horror, romance and thrills as the story builds with Octavia seeking answers. It’s well written, moves fluidly and is an enjoyable read.

This story started a little bit slow and felt somewhat predictable but once it picked up speed it moved pretty quickly. Good story, pretty intense and the characters are well developed. There are some unanswered questions at the end that would have been nice to see resolved.
This is not a book genre I would typically read. It kept me interested in what would happen next and wanting to know her past. I thought it would be a clean romance suspense but out of the blue there was unnecessary details of sexual activity. I like sweet happily ever after without a lot of suspense or violence. This was right at the edge of what I can handle or am willing to even read through. So if suspense thrillers with a hint of romance is your thing, you’ll probably really enjoy this book. It does have a hint of HEA but I also felt like it ended abruptly. So many unanswered questions!
This thriller is an pageturner that I couldn’t put down. The characters of this story are great! Kept me on the edge of my seat. You want to see how it’s ends. This author knows how to deliver suspense.

A wonderful read that is wonderfully written and provides wonderful characters. I enjoyed getting to know Octavia and Hayden. The story had enough creep factor to definitely qualify for a thriller. It is a great read.

I was shocked, such betrayal. I’ll be reading more Cora Clark. I don’t remember reading a book where the betrayal was so close and deep. The good thing was she had a friend she could rely on.
