In this stunning series debut from bestselling author Jennifer Monroe, a mother’s mysterious request to a duke reveals family secrets – and invokes romance – for her young daughters… hiding in the one place she will be safe – Scarlett Hall – the ancient estate belonging to her family. However, Isabel’s cloak of safety is threatened when her mother reveals to her a secret, one that will forever change her life. The family estate is near bankruptcy, and Isabel is the only one who can save her siblings from the shame they are likely to endure….
Laurence Redbrook, Duke of Ludlow, no longer leaves his home, allowing him to avoid society, a preferable life to the alternative. Having suffered a horrible accident as a child and riddled with a limp, the ongoing stares and whispers of the ton are too much to bear. How can any lady ever see him as more than half a man? Therefore, he spends his days painting, protected from the outside world within the confines of the walls of his estate. That is, until a most unusual request from an old family friend has him reconsider the notion of marriage. And perhaps romance….
As Isabel and Laurence are joined into a marriage of convenience, Isabel begins to search for a way to escape from both a man she does not love and the secrets in her heart. And Laurence must decide if the love that has blossomed inside him is enough for Isabel to see him as the man he wishes to be rather than the burden she is forced to carry.
Whispers of Light is the first book in the nine-part Regency Romance Family Saga, Secrets of Scarlett Hall. Clean and sweet, with a thread of mystery woven throughout, each book contains a guaranteed happily ever after.

This was a little different than other historical romances. I enjoyed it.
A sad but courageous tale
Two lonely and damaged souls who both have suffered and who now need a new beginning. That is basically the central theme of Whispers of Light by Jennifer Monroe.
I have mixed feelings about this character-driven romance. The story is a simple one, but the emotions within it are complicated. I liked the lead characters, Isabel and Laurence, except when they were unlikable. Thankfully, Isabel’s siblings really helped to lighten this otherwise slow and sad tale. My last disappointment s was with the ending. It was sweet, but not very satisfying, and the epilogue was inserted to set up the next book about one of Isabel’s siblings.
Content 411: This is a clean read. No swearing or sex.
Somewhat sad. He’s such a sweet man. She’s a fraud in my opinion. He vows to make her happy and she isn’t honest. Glad he got his HEA, but it was anticlimactic about it.
I Haven’t Seen Many Heroes Like This One
It took a while for me to warm up to Isabel. She initially came off as a goody-two-shoes. Laurence was a more interesting character. He was different from most heroes in that his self-esteem was extremely low. He was such a sweetheart, just what Isobel needed.
The issue with their relationship was Isabel’s fear of being hurt and Laurence’s guilt. They grapple through their problems with a bit of melodrama along the way, mainly on Isabel’s part. That was the crux of the story. I didn’t think the secrets threatening Scarlet Hall were all that diabolical. Their revelation was anticlimactic.
I don’t remember
Good story and no yukky sex.
The characters were believable and the resolution to their disappointments in life were well crafted.
I really like historical romance, as long as they are not erotic. I want a book with a story, not sex. I like books along the line of Martha Stewart etc. Cudos to this writer for not putting in sex
Secrets and hurts cannot keep apart two people meant for each other. A great read!
Very slow start, I was bored stiff until halfway thru when it did pick up some.
strong female character, not entirely unpredictable ending but satisfying.
A matchup of 2 people with tragic pasts joined from necessity. Watching them both recover and look forward to the future with joy was intriguing and learning their secrets brought clarity to their stories. Clean romance with nothing to offend. My only disappointment is the frequency of the use of incorrect words rending understanding the meaning of a sentence challenging.
Not a bad book but must she tell us over and over and over that the h doesn’t want tp fall in love again. I got about to about 35% and couldn’t take anymore. I skipped to the epilogue.
A book to remind the reader of a choice to be happy or not. The story to make one ponder and think. Is your glass half full of not.
Typical plot of internal angst that could have been resolved with better communication. Easy to read and a pleasant distraction.
I do not recommend this book it is not written well and the story is slow
“Whispers of Light” Secrets of Scarlett Hall, book 1 by Jennifer Monroe narrated by Katherine Anderson
I requested and received a copy of this audiobook from the narrator. And, I do feel so very lucky as this story was a captivating read. A story that shows how much our perceptions and experiences impact how we react in our here-and-now world. Note: the last minute leaves you with a teaser to the next book in the series, which at first put me off, but I got over it. Because Laurence & Isabel’s story was worth the read. Happy Reading ! !
I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.
Overall, I liked the story and I am more at 3.5 stars. But, to me, it just seemed like it took a long time to get where it ultimately ended up. I did not find the actions of Harriet, MC Laurence Redbrook’s sister, to be absolutely convincing. I also thought that the ultimate reveal regarding MC Isabel’s marriage was odd given her behavior up to that point. And finally, it just seemed that MC Laurence was a bit to saintly at times – accepting of both his sister Harriet’s and his wife’s MC Isabel’s behavior.
The narrator, Katherine Anderson, has a pleasant voice with a slight British accent. She did a nice job.
A wonderful, rich and detailed Regency Romance!
