We were bred in darkness. How else would we come to love?I was captured … That’s just the beginning of my tale. I’ve survived Purgatory, abuse, and near death. In that abandoned farmhouse I nearly lost everything, but Jacob saved me. We were trapped in this hell together, giving each other the strength to hold on. I fell into darkness with my captor’s son. Until I left him behind. She was … left him behind.
She was perfect, my Alana. Brilliant and full of pain. She understood my darkness and fueled the fire. When she left, I waited patiently to find her, and in her honor, I killed men who took away from innocents.
Then I found her…
She’s deadly now, a killer too, and perfectly mine. It was beautiful to behold, but she belongs in a cage. My cage. She’ll love me again, or I’ll expose her dirty secrets for the world to see while going down in flames with her.
In darkness, it’s most definitely till death do us part.
Warning: This book is full of triggers. It’s wicked dark, with created evil falling in love. People die. They are hurt horribly. The bad guys get away, and there is no apology for it.

When LeTeisha Newton writes dark, she goes dark. I had no idea where this story was going and boy am I glad I held on for the bumpy ride. My advice, don’t stop. 5 haunting stars for Whispers in the Dark.
OMG – I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn’t put it down (not sure what that says about me!). Please note this is a very dark and twisted book! The plot was awesome – I mean I didn’t dream someone could come up with something like this; however, this author did. I loved the characters despite their twisted ways. The chemistry was pretty hot! Lots of stuff that left me thinking “What did I just read” in the fun way. Really I can’t say what I really thought – Amazon would ban me for sure…..I can’t wait to read more from this author.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a free copy of this book….
Once I picked this up, there was no going back. I also had the thought, ‘I’m not coming out of this the same the same way I went in…’ This book can change the way you think – or just get you thinking. It’s dark, but it’s oh-so-good. I’ll never be able to say enough or do it justice, but I’ll give it a shot.
Starts off with action that’ll get your heart racing and quickly turns dark. The darkness doesn’t leave as the reader is exposed to alternating POVs of two characters, both of whom are trapped in purgatory – this really isn’t an exaggeration. It’s absolutely not for the faint of heart or easily triggered, but if you can withstand the darkness, it is so worth it. Newton doesn’t shelter the reader – they’re treated to the gory details of both Alana’s captivity and those of the ‘childhood’ her kidnapper’s son has… and I do use the word ‘childhood’ loosely. It still manages to be hot at times – Newton knows just how to work love and light into what’s overall fairly dark, a fantastic artist of human nature.
Whispers in the Dark shows us how one can transition from a so-called ‘normal’ person – by normal I mean, lacking in a desire to harm others – into something else. I think Newton does a great job of getting the psychology of both a man who comes from a broken, abusive home, and a woman who has seen and endured entirely too much. I found the way she portrays their emotional scars realistic and the lives they go on to make for themselves completely plausible.
It was really fun to read something SO addictive – I hated to put it down, and was sad to see it end – that was also SO plausible. Not just another quick romance, fairy tale retelling or anything else that’s been done to death.
The cover is absolutely exquisite, professionally done and related to the story, while the editing seems on point. Character development is complex. We follow Alana from an 18-year-old high school student into adulthood, post secondary education and while completely changed by her ordeal, she’s still the same person at the core. Even touching on the change in her relationship with her family, Newton doesn’t miss a beat in showing the reader the lasting effects her captivity had on her. A brilliant look at the way life can absolutely impact who or what we become, despite our core personality not becoming lost.
I rarely do this, but I’m going to call this one 5 stars. For making me think, for not boring me and, while it didn’t surprise me, I still could not put it down.
notes:
Before the first chapter, I had a little trouble getting a visual… it described feelings, thoughts and had dialogue but left out some physical details. I was distracted & spent some time flipping back several times, convinced I’d missed something.
Jacob said he’d keep her caged /she’d argue / he never understood/agreed she should have her freedom when they talked about it … but then she had it without further discussion.
I love a deliciously dark story and this author never disappoints me. There are so many possible triggers in this book so be prepared that even if you don’t think you have triggers these characters may make you rethink that! I was held captive by this book from start to finish. There is nothing that I would change about this plot or the characters, they are all perfectly adorably dark. This is author has become one of my favorites.

This is the 1st book I’ve read written by Leteisha Newton; I’m truly impressed with her writing. I can’t wait to read more of her books.
The story line hooks you from the very beginning and keeps you hooked throughout the entire book.
I loved how Alana moves on after she had been kidnapped.
One dark drama romance. Has very hard elements and lots of pain. Has unconventional and abnormal romance. Both of the characters are anti heroes. But perfect for one another. If you want something different read this.

Whispers in the Dark had a strong plot that was filled with many emotions, the story was written well. Nothing about Alana and Jacob’s journey was easy, they had many ups and downs but they were drawn to each other, the chemistry was strong between them, they were good together.
I enjoyed this story.
Soooo deliciously twisty and dark. I really needed this book in my life, even though it probably hits every single trigger out there.
Have started reading this one but I’m not finished. Thus far, it’s an interesting read. And liking the characters, thus far. Will update more once I’ve gotten to the end.
This book was unbelievably one of the most riveting books I have ever read. Dark romance doesn’t even cover it. OMG, I love this book. You felt it, I mean really felt it – like you were there experiencing it all. All the characters were so deep, so emotional. I could not put this book down and read it in one afternoon. I will be another convert to this author’s books.
This is my first read of LeTeisha and I will definitely be back for more. You know, after I see a therapist from this one
First and foremost, the warning.
There is a lot of triggers in this one and I had to actually have a bit of a breather a few times, but I just had to dive back in.
Murder, kidnapping, mental and physical abuse, torture and yes, rape, if any of these are a hard limit for you, I would recommend you skip this one.
I saw words like dark, twisted, insane and thought “omg I need this!”
We all know I love dark romance, there is just something about it that calls to me, making my little black heart flutter. But in all honesty, those labels above do not do this book any justice.
It’s such a heartbreaking, brutal, and disturbingly beautiful story.
Jacob, born the son of a true monster and one of his many captive toys, he was raised, no, trained to be just like his father.
His father kidnapped young girls since before Jacob was born, breaking them and training them to be his perfect, submissive “toys” meant for his pleasure alone. His father want’s an army of sons from his ‘toy’ to carry out his legacy.
His father brings him home the perfect toy, a blonde haired, fair skinned, feisty girl that will be his first and meant solely for him.
Jacob isn’t quite like his dear old dad though, he is considered weak, a disappointment in his fathers eyes and suffers the same rape, torture, and humiliation as the captives in the basement.
Losing more than just his dignity and pride, he also loses her to his father, he must now watch as he takes what belongs to him, and that brings Jacobs darkness out in full force.
18-year-old Alana was walking to school, the next thing she knows she is waking up locked in a cage, her fate being explained to her by another captive.
The horror that she suffers are unimaginable, not just physically, but mentally. She won’t give in, she won’t just lay down and let the monster break her.
Jacob and Alana find comfort in each other, Jacob fully believing that she is his and he will free her from his father, once he is strong enough, and then he will take her as his own, though she has other plans, ones that don’t include him, no matter how much of a bond they have.
8 years have passed since they escaped their prison, and Jacob is ready to take back what belongs to him, Alana.
But she isn’t some meek captive anymore.
Jacob and Alana aren’t like most couples we read about in dark romance. They aren’t insane, at least not in my mind lol, they aren’t looking for the other to save them from the darkness and bring them back to the light, they want acceptance, they want the other to not only embrace the darkness but to match it with their own and set their world alight. and boy do they do that!
This is a heartbreaking story of two souls who were destined for each other from the start, who had to claw their way out of hell and endure some of the most horrific and soul-crushing things to forge their own paths in the shadow, together.
This is one heck of a dark read. I think it just about ticks every available dark box. It is full of potential triggers. Yes it’s that good.
The story is written from both Alana and Jacob’s points of view and is split into two parts. The first chunk of the book covers her capture and those first few months. The man who takes her isn’t nice and the author doesn’t ‘fade to grey’ or leave anything unsaid. She was taken for Jacob, but his father is too evil to ever truly share or give anything away, so Jacob suffers silently alongside Alana.
There is a jump of 18 months and we see a very different Alana. One where constant sexual, physical and mental abuse has taken it’s toll but deep inside she still has a strong survival instinct. Circumstances arise that allow Alana to make a choice – either to leave or to stay with Jacob. (Not a spoiler as this is in the blurb). Knowing that she isn’t strong enough yet to withstand what Jacob wants from her, she chooses to run.
The second part of the book is set quite a few years later, when Jacob finally tracks down the girl who told him to “find a way to get me back” . However Jacob conveniently forgot the ‘but you can’t own me’ part. This is where their story really takes off. Can two broken souls heal each other? Or will they only find misery in the other’s arms? There are battles of wills and some violent punishment scenes as Alana/Nila and Jacob struggle to find a compromise. The chemistry between this twisted pair works and their connection is very believable. With each passing chapter I wasn’t sure if this was going to have a HEA, a both locked up in mental institutes or a Bonnie and Clyde style “going down in a blaze of glory” ending.
This book totally keeps you on your toes and really does a number on your mind. I fell in love with two sadistic and evil killers. OK they only kill bad guys who deserve it, but they don’t do it swiftly! I liked that the author didn’t soften either of them, or give us a twee epilogue. This is not a book that will leave you with the warm and fuzzies but it will satisfy your dark cravings.
Five twisted stars! This book is a darkish masterpiece!
For darkness sake! LeTeisha Newton has delivered a twisted AF book. Whispers in the Dark is darkish perfection. This book twisted my insides in a sinful way. I can’t imagine a greater pleasure for a Dark Romance Lover than reading a book like this. It has all the elements that made it unique.
LeTeisha ‘s writing is poetically dark, addictive and too tempting. She is an amazing and talented lady who has won my dark software spot. She is one of the best at writing Dark Romance. If you are a fan, like me, of that genre you should not miss this book. Whispers in the Dark is a brutal, raw and twisted piece of heaven. I love everything about this book and it makes me wonder who is more twisted; the author for writing it or me for reading it.
This book is not for sensitive souls who like pink and dreamy romances. Here the Monster took and corrupted a young girl and his own son. His darkness ate their good, it craved their pain. No one helped them. Alana and Jacob were bonded with darkness and pain.
There isn’t a knight in shining armour who saved the damsel. Here the heroine is going to be hurt and tarnished. Her soul will be broken but not her spirit. She will be reborn from the ashes like a phoenix. Her saviour is going to be the Monster’s son. The girl who had a life and dreamed will die and a avenging angel will replace her. Killing will be a twisted game she will enjoy but still she is not free from the darkness that is eating her soul. Only Jacob could set her free.
Jacob is a broken Prince. He has never known what love is. He only knew pain an abuse which were inflicted by his Father’s dirty hands. He endured the worst any child could support. Darkness hasn’t consumed his soul. Alana will enlighten his life. The Toy his father broke. The girls who meant to be his.
After so much torture the victim becomes the victimizer. Sadism, rape, dead, blood, pain and murders all mixed in a twisted game between the characters. A game that will condemn them and will save them at the same time.
Alana and Jacob are twisted soul mates bounded by darkness and misery. Jacob is going to set free Alana. He will make her crave him. He will punish her until she embraces her twisted love. They remind me the Joker and Harley Quinn.
The plot is refreshingly different and intense. I couldn’t put the book down. I spend an exceptional time. The pace is fast and the characters are complex and damaged. Their story is about pain and killing. How much pain a human being could endure until he/she lose his/her soul? People react differently and not all are strong as Alana and Jacob. Let them tell you their story. Let them show you how to embrace darkness in order to survive the worst.
I highly recommend you this book. If you have a soft spot for Dark Romance, this book is perfect for you. This is a twisted and all-consuming read that will tempt you like nothing else.
Hello darkness my old friend…….
Newton knows exactly how to lure her readers to the dark side. The real depth of characters, an insight to demons that plague the victims, and a love story born and bred from blood, pain, and madness.
Whispers in the Dark is a crazy dark suspenseful book sure to tease those who love the darker reads. Two characters who are choreographed by the pure insanity that comes with broken people and flawed romance. A beautiful dark tainted love story about a woman that is so traumatized she uses that terror to aid in healing her soul the only way she knows how.
Abducted, abused, traumatized, tortured; Alana finally breaks free from her captor. She attempts to banish the dark, but it now resides within and has changed who she was and could have been. The whispers call to her.
Sometimes the Whispers in the Dark are all that can heal the sins forced upon the sufferer. The revelations of the depraved just before they are extinguished.
This story grabs you from the very first page. It is dark, brutal and painful. It will take you out of your comfort zone. It’s a look into the darker corners of abuse. With that said there is an expectation of material that may be offensive to some. Don’t be that dick that says “I didn’t know it was so dark” and “not my cup of tea” after reading all the warnings as to the content and the storyline subject. Regardless of such, a good reader/reviewer should be able to appreciate the story for what it is.
What happens when serial killers fall in love?! Can they even do that?
READ THIS TO FIND OUT EXACTLY WHY PEOPLE BECOME THIS WAY.
So sooooo so good.
LeTeisha Newton is the queen bee author of atypical romance and this story is definitely not typical. Whispers in the Dark is a very dark, suspenseful, and intriguing romance novel. From the first few pages, you become terrified at what people can and will do to one another. The horror of what the characters go through can be triggering and might lead to nightmares. The author gets you there without going into gory detail.
As the story progresses the main characters embrace inner darkness that comes from shared trauma, abuse, torture…you get the picture. This is survival for them, or is it? The characters are deeply broken and scarred, and almost not empathy worthy. Yet you empathize because whom they become is not necessarily their fault, or is it? From a perspective, Newton makes their actions justifiable because of whom they target. However, the human in you has to ask is it murder if a monster kills a monster? This story takes you to the edge of humanity and sanity. Yet, there is love, not the kind that we are accustomed to, but love nonetheless.
Whispers in the Dark is a very well written story. It made me wonder about the abductions you see in the news and the stories about serial killers, and how did those people get to be who they are. It is scary because you know what happened in this book could be happening somewhere close to me right now.

A very dark story that had suspense and drama. It was an interesting story though I had a hard time reading most of it because of the total dip into a number of horrific things. The author has a great imagination but the substance was difficult to comprehend as entertaining.

Captive romance with a twist from a new to me author. This was a dark tale about Alana who is kidnapped at 17 and spends almost two years in her captors home. While there she gains a connection with Jacob her captors son. While he has some of the same urges as his father being brought up in the most horrific of conditions he only wants Alana for himself. He becomes both her salvation and another she must escape from.
Alana manages to escape with the help of Jacob but now he’s back stalking her determined to make her his own. Alana was an amazing character she took the abuse she suffered and because an avenging demon to combat her own. Jacob was absolutely devoted to Alana and even though he’s an absolute psycho he is irrevocably in love with her. They become a twisted Bonnie and Clyde and I loved that.
This story was bloody and dark with the “bad” guys getting away with their misdeeds and living their own twisted version of HEA. Highly recommend for lovers of the darker side
My only critique was that when Jacob shifted from caging Alana to freedom I didn’t see the transition reasoning it was abrupt. I loved the shift and what happened because of t just couldn’t quite understand why he allowed it so suddenly.
This book is so original and all you can do is saw wow! Suspenseful and dark, with all the right things to hook you. You will be hooked from the first pages.
I am still trying to come to terms. This is a dark I guess romance. It has some tough subjects to read. There was torture, rape, murder, and other unspeakable things. LeTeisaha Newton took us to the depths of Hell and back. I was kept guessing and wondering. This is the story of Alana and Jacob. What they are and become and how they relate to one another. Great read if you like them dark. I would recommend this book. I was a wild ride.
