When my eyes are closed, the monster can’t see me.When I sing a song in my head, the monster can’t hear me.When I pretend my bedroom is a playground where I play hide-and-seek, the monster can’t find me.The darkness should frighten me.I should worry I’ll find more monsters…monsters scarier than him.But I’m not afraid. It’s safe here. When I’m inside of my head… here.
When I’m inside of my head…
He. Can’t. Ever. Touch. Me.
Warning:
Whispers and the Roars is a dark romance. Strong sexual themes and violence, which could trigger emotional distress, are found in this story. The abuse written in this story is graphic and not glossed over, which could be upsetting to some. This story is NOT for everyone. Proceed with caution.

This is Kady and Yeo’s story, and they were childhood loves who are separated by circumstances a of and life. Kady is a survivor, and after Yeo completes medical school, he comes home to win back his girl. I am keeping this review vague as it is better to go into the story blind. This is a well written story which this talented author has done an exceptional job in weaving, with an intricate and in-depth plot, with vulnerability, and well as being a dark, raw, gritty, and emotionally charged story, which has amazing secondary characters, family, twists, and love, and is a mind-blowing and all-consuming take, which had me totally enthralled throughout, and I look forward to reading more from this talented author. In my opinion, this is this talented authors’ best work to date!
I am late to the party and it’s a miracle that I still went in blind because I have seen discussion about Whispeds and the Roars by K Webster all over my bookish groups. And I am so glad that I did. This story definitely played games with my mind. And I am still kind of in shock.
.
.
This is a story of Kady and Yeo. Kady has experienced so much trauma and abuse that her heart is a dark and fractured place. Yeo is the little boy who became her friend and then they fall in love. But Kady refuses to drag Yeo down and she pushed him away. Yeo got his medicine degree and now back in town and this time he won’t back down. Now is the time when he glue all the pieces of Kady together.
.
The core issue of the story is what is wrong with Kady. And I never ever saw that coming. Nope. And I am a Psychiatrist. Yeo is the strength, the brave fighter and the man who loves Kady in her most haunted places. But it may not be enough because Kady needs to save her. It’s an uphill battle with so many facets and so many twists. The rollercoaster was real scary and it’s really not for everyone. You need to have flexibility and openness in heart to feel all the complex upsetting emotions and accept them. It was dark. It was unsettling. And it was extremely well written.
I received a complimentary copy from author through Give me books and the reviews are my own and voluntarily written.
Oh My God! K Webster! This is a indescribable love story that will not only grab your attention, it will make you freeze in place until you finish.
Do not read any blurbs, just trust the process, trust that K Webster will not lead you astray. Go in blind, you won’t regret it.
This is such an emotional read you will probably need a good romcom to read after but this is a story that EVERYONE needs to read. K Webster is such a freaking talented writer and this is a perfect example why.
Bottom line READ THIS BOOK NOW!
90% of folks probably love or hate this book. It was definitely a complete mindf*ck. I’m more of the “WTF did I just read??”, but I enjoyed it for what it was. What could be better than a hero that spends 12 years being true to his childhood love while he prepares for their life together? Or was he true? But he was. Yes, it’s that confusing. At 60%, when you’re about to throw the towel in, keep reading for 10% more to see if this is a story you can love. Total hard right on the storyline from where you think it’s going. There are harbingers, but no way to really prepare. Best just to buckle up, buttercup and enjoy the ride.
Story:
Trope: Childhood friends to lovers/second chance
Angst:
Smexy:
Triggers: Severe mental health issues, self harm
This book wrecked me. I don’t even know where to begin.
You definitely have to go in blind and just accept everything that comes at you until it all slowly pieces together. I didn’t know what I was getting into until the twist hit and all my emotions kept spilling out thereafter. K. Webster tore me apart with this book, but it was heartbreakingly beautiful.
There’s so much I want to say, but I don’t want to spoil it, so I’ll keep this review short and say that it’s an absolute must read. Now, all I want is a Yeo in my life that’ll love me unconditionally like he did Kady.

I am so ashamed of myself for not having read this one sooner. This book was…unbelievable. A dark, raw, psychological romance that left me reeling and rethinking everything once the truth came out.
. . , .
Go in to this one blind. Don’t read reviews. Just know this story is something you’ve probably never read before. It’s a genuine story of soul mates and the power of love. A breathtaking love story about trauma and the importance of a strong support system.
I’m seriously blown away. I’m fairly certain this will become a FAVORITE book of all time for me. This book was thought provoking and so beautiful. This is a story that will shock you the first time you read it. I can’t wait to read it again to pick up more clues and experience everything with a different set of eyes.
Mind completely blown and also blotting my eyes at the amazing love story behind the tangled web of it all.
This kind of tale is why K. Webster continually blows away all of the expectations I think I have where she can’t get any better, but she continually proves me wrong over and over again. She tops her writing and shatters any glass ceiling I try to place on her and I love her for it.
Whispers and Roars is unlike any book I’ve ever read. I sat down and read it from cover to cover in one sitting. It’s hard to put into one box as it’s definitely taboo and can have its triggers, but its also psychological and completely engaging and at the heart of it all is a love story that is the best part of the entire thing. Every character is engaging and unique and I loved the entire story from beginning to end.
Completely fell in love with Yeo, who is the heart and soul of the book, but also had moments where my heart was completely ripped my heart out and made me cry (while sitting at work mind you). He loves so deeply and passionately. Webster flushed him out so beautifully it literally made me weep.
Kady and Yeo’s love is one for the ages, but this is not a story to delve into lightly. However, if you love and respect where Webster can brings you on her literary journey than this story is one to take.
“You are terrifying and strange and beautiful, something not everyone knows how to love.” – Warsan Shire
I went into this book blind because that’s what was advised. All I can say is whatever you do don’t read the spoiler reviews. It will really ruin the entire story. K. Webster is an amazing writing and she did not disappoint at all with this book. I was engaged the entire time and when the story took a turn I did not see it coming. I loved this book much like I love all of her books. I definitely love psychological thrillers more than anything though and I gotta say this book proves it for me. I’m so thankful I finally got around to reading this one.
THE REVIEW FOR THE BOOK: Whispers and the Roars
GENRE: Dark Romance
AUTHOR: K. Webster
TYPE: Standalone
POV: Multiple POV
MY RATING: 5.0 Stars
As per the authors request, I’m not going to give you any details about this book. I’m not going to tell you what’s it about. I’m not going to give you my opinion on this book other than it blew my mind. I absolutely loved this book. I would recommend it to anyone I meet.
The key is to go into this book completely blind. Don’t read the synopsis. Don’t read any reviews or spoilers. When you start reading the book…don’t skip to the end! No cheating. Just read the book like normal.
You won’t be disappointed.
Wow just wow. If this is the first review you read STOP NOW. You need to go a purchase this book. Make sure you have somewhere quiet to read and have the whole day with no disruptions. This in unlike anything I have ever read. I went into it blind which is the best way. Really read this story, take it and really absorbe it. Nothing is what you expect it to be. That’s all I’m going to say. I don’t want to spoil it. This is an absolute phenomenally mind blowing experience.
I can’t really do much of a review without revealing things, so just know that this book needs to be read!
Fantastic read! One of my favorites of the year. Unfortunately for me the twist was very obvious once I hit the 2nd chapter. I still loved it, any book that depicts mental illness in a positive way is a win for me. The story is about Yeo and Kady and their evolution of friends to lovers and the trials of loving someone with mental illness. I think it could have had a bit more conflict with secondary characters but maybe the author didn’t want to make it too over the top. I thought overall it was a very sweet love story. It’s difficult to write a review on this without spoilers so I will say just pick it up if you’re a fan of original dark reads.
Right, I love this book!
But seriously, all I’m going to say here is go in blind. I know it’s hard but I promise you, it is totally worth it!
I’m the kind of girl who reads the end of a book before the first page, but I am SO glad that I didn’t with this book!
Like those who have read before me, I do not want to write a review that could change people’s minds about reading this book. All I have to say is that I absolutely loved it and would recommend it to anybody who loves a Dark Romance novel. There is a warning attached to this book as it does follow dark themes, and could be a trigger for some people.
Read this book. I can promise you, you WILL NOT regret it!
I am floored with the experience…scratch that. I am completely speechless with this heart twisting story of true unconditional love. This book has taken its spot in my top 5 favorite reads ever and will stay there. I didn’t expect to be so caught up, but K Webster definitely wrapped me completely up with this one. Please follow the advice of going into this completely blind – DO NOT READ SPOILERS or read reviews, it would spoil the whole book. Now after writing what I have, I do want to put out warnings – this book is not for the faint of heart. There are depictions of past child abuse, domestic abuse, and a little self harm. But there is a light, a bright one, at the end. This one is going to stick with me, I know I will be going back to read this one again – I am kicking myself repeatedly for not reading it sooner.
I’m stunned. In awe. I think I’ll need weeks to wade through all the feelings this book brought up for me.
I’m not going to write much, because I refuse to spoil anything at all, and there’s nothing I can say to you to describe how amazing, fantastic, dark, deep, unique, gut-wrenching, soul-crushing, AND MAGNIFICENT this book was.
K. Webster is a genius. I know she writes a myriad of different things, which I think makes her such a powerhouse. She can write stuff that’s kinky and fun and sexy. And then she turns around and writes something like this that just OBLITERATES every fiber of your heart.
I’m not saying anything else. READ THIS BOOK. Don’t read the reviews. Read the book. Now.
INFINITE APPLAUSE for K. Webster and this masterpiece that will forever go down in history as one of the best books I’ve ever read. (Not exaggerating)
This book is hard to put into words without giving away too much, so you’ll need to read it to understand it. This story will mess with your mind and have you second guessing so much until the twist is revealed and then it all comes together like a puzzle being solved. There’s so much emotion within these pages that it sucks you in and takes you on one crazy, intriguing, riveting ride that eventually ends in love.
K Webster I haven’t enough words to express my feelings and no words, I’m speechless but have a thousand thoughts still running around in my mind about whispers and the Roars.
This is one of those books where I will ponder on it in days to come.
I read a wide range of sub-genres, avoiding ones I’m not comfortable with and I’ve read K Webster books before but I have to hold my hands up, I’m not a DNF reader I don’t have them on my shelf, I always try and see a book through to the end but I did stop at one point, just one point had me confused.
Taking a break and re-reading the synopsis that says READ THIS WITH AN OPEN MIND spurred me on.
I AM SO, SO GLAD I SAW THIS THROUGH. I AM SO GLAD I READ ONE MORE CHAPTER BECAUSE BOOM IT ALL MADE SENSE.
It would if been like climbing up to the top of a mountain and stopping before the summit and missing the beautiful view.
Praise for K Webster, so much research would have gone into this to get the psychological parts right and as a reader, I have to say, K Webster, it definitely paid off.
Each one of K Webster books blows me away in different ways, such brilliant writing and creativity.
Told in multiple pov’s this isn’t a dark read, this is someone’s reality that happens to be claimed by the dark.
Read it, stick with it and enjoy.
Words can not express this book! K Webster certainly blew this one out of the water! This book should be read just as she suggests….read it with an open mind and without reading reviews! I personally loved it and would definately recommend to anyone with an open mind. Go with the flow in this book and you will love it!
Whispers and the Roars was a very nice surprise not only did I went In completely blind, but I also didn’t know where the story was taking us, I’m so glad I did this because I really didn’t expect what happened, making the story even more suspenseful..
“You are terrifying and strange and beautiful, something not everyone knows how to love.”
Yeo, a very successful man, with a complicated family who only was looking for what was best for him, even if that meant sending him away from his very best friend and the love of his life…
“I sent my boy away and he came back a man. My man.”
Kady and Yeo have been friends since they were just kids, Kady had a very rough start in life making her very vulnerable to certain situations that people could not understand.. only Yeo was able to see deeper into Kady’s heart.. making him the only one able to protect her even from her own self.
“Yeo is my drug. And I willingly give my biggest vein to him to inject his life into me.”
Kady is battling with somethings that Yeo’s family don’t know, and haven’t made any effort to understand, they judged her as everybody does but Yeo is determined to protect her and to make people see how beautiful she is and how much she has endured to be in the place she is today..
“My love for you never went anywhere. I was just forced to lock it away. Because you asked me to. Now, I’m asking you to unlock it and free it. And toss the fucking key in the river where it belongs because I don’t ever want to deny myself you ever again. We deserve to be happy, my sweet, sweet Kadence.”
One of the things that I really like about this book is that we really don’t have any clue about Kady’s family and life, we only get glimpses of what she told us but the twist was epic leaving me in shock and making everything clearer and even more understandable than before..
“I just want everyone to understand my love for her. All facets. Every single dirty, ugly part.”
I also like the love and dedication Yeo has for Kady is beautiful. He really is there for her no matter how hard the situation and circumstances are.. it really pained me to understand and see what Kady when trough but I also think it was necessary so she will finally get rid of all that pain and bad memories her past keep lurking around..
“It’s time to relax, beautiful, and let me take care of you like I was born to do. Let’s get home and showered. I want to take you to dinner tonight. Just us.”
Yeo was always a true gentleman protecting her at all times.. and let me tell you Yeo was super sexy and possessive .. don’t let him fool you, his nice, charming, personality has also that intensity and darkness K.Websters heroes have and I really love it.. Yeo was super hot, I really didn’t even see him coming..
“Never enough with Kadence. I’ve always left yearning for more of her. I crave every single facet, every broken piece of her. I want them all collected and locked away in my heart where they belong.”
The secondary characters are great too, they bring so much to this story and are as well very important in the life of the main characters..
So many twist and turns will make this story even more enjoyable. Suspenful, angsty and twisted the right amount just to leave you wanting for more..
An amazing twist
Kady has suffered throughout her life, and has her own coping mechanisms. Regardless of all of this, Yeo has no intention of leaving her side. She’s perfect to him even though everyone in his family is against it.
As the story moves on, a huge twist is revealed and you begin to understand what’s happening.
I love K Webster’s mind!
This is probably one of my favourite books by her. It touches on real and raw subjects, and perhaps one major one that is very real, but one people may not quite believe because it’s not common or talked about.
