Three people battling each other, trying to protect themselves from heartbreak, not realizing they need each other to rescue one little girl before it’s too late. Can Olivia risk her heart for the man she truly loves or will he turn his back on her?
Whispered Wishes is hard to define but is mesmerizing to read. One minute it’s an enemies-to-lovers romance and the next it’s a gripping romantic suspense. It’s an unputdownable women’s fiction with Olivia front and centre. There’s plenty of conflict in this story but by the time you reach the end, it all comes together beautifully. You understand the characters (Olivia, Lucas and Nathan) and their motivations. For those who love watching reality shows like Real Housewives, you’ll adore Whispered Wishes. Sue Lilley weaves an intoxicating story with overlapping storylines, dramatic tension, realistic characters all set in a small village in England. The romance is understated which was refreshing for this reader. Highly recommend!

My Rating: 5 stars
Nathan and Olivia meet when she moves in next door to him during a blizzard. She had purchased the house next to him and he wasn’t happy. Nathan is raising his daughter Katie and she takes to Olivia. There is a lot of drama, suspense and chemistry in this story. The past comes to haunt Olivia and Nathan. They have to try to get through their uncertainty and trust each other. Great story. The basic plot of this suspenseful romance is good, although I found this story really hard to get into. I had difficulty relating to Olivia who seems horribly naive despite her 40-years of age. Although she was set up from the beginning one wonders how it was possible to continue with an affair with such an ego-centric, fame-hungry psychopath. That she falls for his ploys a second time is insane. I love the small-town atmosphere of the novel, the characters, and the hero who will do anything to protect his daughter. I could also understand Nathan’s anger and angst when Olivia reappeared with Lucas on his doorstep. Fortunately, Olivia does redeem herself and the novel ends on a good note. The storyline was good and the characters were detailed enough to keep my attention throughout the entire book!
I really enjoyed this book. Good story with interesting characters. Lots of fun to read. I feel like this could have a series.
Great job!

I would call this book romantic suspense—heavy on the drama and very light on the romance. Our main female is Olivia, forty years old and still making really bad decisions (often while drunk). Nathan is the steadfast reclusive neighbor. They both feel an attraction to each other but are ambivalent about it. And then there’s the fly in the ointment named Lucas, who is nothing but trouble… until he isn’t. The way these characters’ lives intermingle is remarkably coincidental and ironic. No one would expect what happens to them and why, but let me just say, the dramatic scenes are very well done and engaging.
There were some plot holes and I wish the story had been buttoned up a little tighter, but my biggest problem was that the story was hard to follow. The point of view changes from one sentence to another, even within the same paragraph. Also when there is dialogue with more than two people in the room it isn’t always clear who is speaking. In addition the time line is not made clear. You may be reading in the present in one chapter, then the next chapter is taking place months or years earlier, but the reader isn’t told that. You have to figure it out for yourself. Eventually I could sort these things out but I don’t think I should have to work that hard when I’m reading for pleasure.
So bottom line, I liked the creativity in this story, but the technique I had trouble with. If anyone asked me if they should read it, I would say yes. It was more exciting than the average romance story and I did enjoy it, but a little more polish could elevate it from an okay read to a good one.
I could not relate to the book. I felt as though the writer was all over the place with this one. One minute there in this scene discussing something and the next page they’ve jumped to a whole other scene without completing the previous one. Olivia has a mysterious past, but the beginning doesn’t even bring out a hint of it. There’s to many holes in the book keep a readers interest.

This is more of a 3 and half stars review. This book is drama filled more then anything. Lucas isn’t a nice person at all. He used Olivia to get ahead in his career and couldn’t care less about her and what happened after the fact. I don’t even know why she gave him the time of day. Nathan, has been handed a lot in his life and has a history with Lucas. It seems these two have a bad encounter and Nathan is still holding onto it. Nathan is a single dad and runs a very successful construction business who gives back to the community. He has some issues but the more he spends with Olivia, he realizes he needs to let the anger go and live again. This book is full of drama and reminded me of reality show in a way. It was good but there were also times, I got lost in what was happening at times cause it was a flashback to when she was with Lucas. I read this in one sitting but just felt like it wasn’t for me.
