This is the first book I read by Kathleen Brooks and it will *not* be the last. Has everything, mystery, thriller, suspense, romance. Strong women and hot men. Great plot that makes you think. Your mind never wanders, your right there with the story the whole time. I highly recommend this book!
This book is awesome! The character development, story line, and story development are epic! I love each character that is brought to life in the writing of this author! I will definately be reading her other series!
Kathleen Brooks is a master storyteller. She has you laughing and crying and wanting more.
I was so drawn into the story. I felt like I was part of it. Fabulous book! I loved every page. Kind of a cliffhanger but It’s ok. It was a good part to end at.
Audiobook: Narrator – Therese Plummer
I picked this book because of this narrator and she did a wonderful job. I didn’t love her performance as much as I have in the past, but I think it’s due to being in a different romantic genre. That doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy her or the book, I just missed some of the quirky ways she spoke in the other series. That’s totally on me.
This was filled with so much action and adventure as this heroine works to uncover secrets hidden within the government. With so much espionage, terrorism and general bad guys, this book took off pretty much from the first page and never slowed down. I actually thought I was at the end a few times before something else happened to surprise me.
I suspect this would be perfect for anyone who enjoys more thriller, mystery, suspense than romance as this was weak in that department but not completely lacking. This doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, but all questions regarding the “bad guys” hasn’t been answered yet.
What can I say… this is just a fun series. It borders the line of reality and total farse but I did not care. I took the leap and pretended the single attractive President orchestrated a secret group to take down a global terrorist threat. I give props to the author who went big. You don’t get much bigger than that. Kathleen Brooks manages to keep this series in the romance genre while mixing a Presidential political thriller, an FBI investigation, and rogue special forces soldiers together for a non-stop action series. The characters are thought out enough that you feel the need to know how it turns out but the pace did rush through their bios and motivations a bit quickly. That didn’t prevent me from going through all three books quickly. It was just entertaining as hell and not what I expected. I write books that mix genres and styles into romance and always enjoy finding others who succeed in doing it too.
This is a slight step away from the rest of Kathleen Brooks’ usual fare. First of all it is a serial and all three books need to be read to complete the story. Second is that the romantic side is secondary to the suspense and also has no definitive conclusion.
I enjoy series and even don’t mind s overlapping story from book to book. I don’t appreciate serials. Thankfully I waited to read/listen to this one until it was all released.
That saying, this story is interesting and has some definite points to think about. I’m sure some of what is played out here happens in real life, or at least in some capacity. This takes it to the next step of wondering what could be.
I am looking forward to see how this plays out. Onto the next book.
Therese Plummer is doing an excellent job narrating and portraying all the characters. I like her voice for both male and female characters.
I read this as a featured Barnes and Noble Serial Read. Plenty of political intrigue (think deep state), featuring strong women and men. Lot’s of action, some sex, and much backstabbing make for a page turning read and nice weekend escape.
Took off 1 star because this is the first of a trilogy and it seems that is always the case now – impossible to read a book beginning to end and be satisfied- most everything is a series. Yes, I will likely read the other two books – so take that as you will.
This book is not my usual cup of tea, but was featured as a Barnes and Noble Serial Read. If you enjoy espionage/spy/thrillers with plenty of political intrigue, it is a good book.
Loads of action, a little sex, a lot of politics and backstabbing make this a quick, fast-paced book when you need an escape. Just be warned: It does not have an ending and is definitely the first part of a trilogy. So, read at your own risk
Whispered Lies by Kathleen Brooks is a political suspense thriller that seems like it is a look behind the scenes in Washington, DC. Lizzy is a former FBI agent working undercover for the President to find out who is undermining the Government and selling secrets to criminal organizations that are trying to undermine the United States. There are so many things going on in this book and so many parallel things in today’s headlines that this book seems like an actual account of events.
I highly recommend this well written book. The plot and characters are well developed. There is mystery, suspense, romance and lots of action to keep you turning pages.
Solid, well written story. The author creates a thriller with good characters and some interesting twist and turns. My only issue was the pace. For me, it was a bit slow but that is more me than the story line. Otherwise, a well worth read.
Great read!
This first book in Brooks’ Web of Lies series grabs you as soon as you start. The story moves quickly and has a number of twists and turns. Highly recommend.
Lizzy was an FBI agent until she’s fired. Her boyfriend, another FBI agent, was killed and then her father dies. She goes back to his bar and finds out he came out of retirement. She wants her father’s killer, so she heads up a group who are investigating powerful men and women who want to bring chaos to the world. Dalton was a Pararescuemen and was relieved of duty after disobeying orders and recusing some SEALs and a department head from ISIS. Now he’s part of the group with Lizzy and a few others. They will do anything kill, kidnap, or whatever it takes to stop this group. This has a slight cliffhanger with lots of action, suspense, mystery and will leave you wanting more. A little sexy and a whole lot of ‘OMG’.
I loved this book set. There are 3 books in the set and they are all so good. Very well written, thought provoking and I couldn’t put it down!
Love the main character Lizzy and the plot keeps you guessing.
I want to see this book made into a movie. Dude!
Really enjoyed this series of books. Would recommend this to all readers had action romance and suspense.
Don’t love dialog
I liked the book and this author, The story line was new to me. however, it became a little too long, But i enjoyed the read.
