‘A nerve jangling, tense thriller that keeps you guessing till the very last second.’ Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐She opens her eyes and struggles to make out the dark room around her. One thing she knows instantly – her wrists are bound and she’s tied to a chair, unable to move. As she screams for help, she hears footsteps outside. He’s coming… Rosen has been having nightmares for weeks, waking in a panic, screaming that there’s a man in her room watching her sleep. Her parents assumed it was her overactive imagination, but when one morning they find Lindy missing from her bedroom, they’re not so sure. Detective Jenna Alton is called in to investigate.
Within hours of the schoolgirl going missing, the kidnapper reaches out to Jenna with a video of Lindy bound and tied to a chair, crying to be set free. And a simple message – you’ve got 24 hours to find her or I kill her.
Jenna’s team work around the clock to try to find Lindy before the deadline, but time runs out, and Jenna receives a devastating message. The killer has made good on his promise. He’s playing a dangerous game. And no one knows what his next move will be.
But just two days later, one of Lindy’s school friends is taken in the middle of the night and the countdown begins again.
Completely addictive from the very start, if you like Lisa Regan, Karin Slaughter and Rachel Abbott you’ll love Whisper in the Night.

Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane … along with the team of Shane Wolfe, Deputies Walters and Webber and Maggie …. return for a sixth installment of this gripping crime fiction. Although sixth in line, it reads easily as a stand alone, but I highly recommend starting at the very beginning. The characters are well worth following.
A teenage girl sees a man in her room. Her parents come running when she screams ..but there is no one there. Five nights in a row she has this ‘dream’ .. until the parents take a 2-second look and tell her to go back to sleep. But then she disappears from her room ….
Jenna gets a call that a girl has gone missing. Within hours, Jenna gets a text from the killer giving her 6 hours to find the girl. A video is attached proving that he has her. The killer has made good on his promise. He’s playing a dangerous game. And no one knows what his next move will be.
And then another teenager disappears under the same circumstances, followed by another text and video.
But its when the killer turns eyes on Jenna and takes someone close to her that it becomes very personal … and it becomes a cat and mouse game.
Completely addictive from the very start, this is a series … and author … worth following. I really enjoy how the characters relate to each other… they’re loyal, trustworthy, and have each others’ backs. The story premise is a very good one, riveting from the very first page. The suspense holds until the final word in the final chapter.
Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Boring, not worth bother opening. Very weak characters, plot, exposition
Wonderful! Just like all of the other books in this series. I always have a hard time figuring out her book. They alway keep me on my toes. I can’t wait until the next one come out!
So this is a grownup scary fairy tale…..instead of youngsters and the boogeyman, we have teens being taken from their own homes in the night……homes with state of the art security….a real nightmare for parents.
You have Jenna and Kane and Wolfe again solving crime and dealing with abducted girls.
The team is back and ready to find them.
Teens talking about nightmares and seeing images have their parents on edge and wondering what is going on with their kids. Then the first one is taken from her home in the night and killed as Jenna receives text messages from the shadow man.
Scary from the get go and a page turner! People are questioned amd they have to decide which of four or five men is the killer.
One problem is that lately Jenna or Kane becomes a target in each mystery. The other problem, too many suspects and all gave off signal of guilt…..there is one clue earlier on that stayed with me and the reason why I knew the killer about four chapters before the end. I give this book 4.4 stars.
Lots of atmosphere and scares, I read it in one day.
