more
This is the beginning so there is a lot of character building, we get flashbacks of Paige’s life as she tries to solve another case. Lot’s of things working against her though and when things come to a head Paige has to decide who to trust. The devil is in the details & Paige gets quite the shock in this story.
Great book!
Good read, series
“A small cauldron was reigned in the center.” Should it have been reined?
“She pushed passed him. Should it have been past?
“She flung the through the portal.” ?
“He’s been a coma ever since.” ?
I enjoyed the story except for the lack of proof reading.
Too many typos and cardboard characters
This grabbed my interest and kept me reading. I knocked off one star because the main character got into situations she should not have been able to get out of. I took off another star for the confusion between what is good and what is evil. I just didn’t like it. Finally, I accept that it’s first in a series, but it felt like nothing at all was resolved. I’m not opting in for the next one.
You never know what direction the plot will lead you. There are new interesting characters continually introduced, all of which enhance the storyline and open new avenues for the series to later explore.
about 3/4 into book and pretty good if a little predictable, (but when you consider the number of books I’ve read…..)
good story and a lesson learned about getting all the facts before passing judgement, especially on something that you don’t understand.
This book was dark menacing and confusing all without relief. Not to my taste.
hard to follow plot
This was a little to far out there for me. I finished the book but I doubt I will read anymore of them. Just to strange for me.
fun read
Chaotic from the start. The characters weren’t all that appealing and I couldn’t get past the 20% mark. Won’t buy any more from this author.
The main character was confused during the entire book…and I was also. If that’s what the author was trying to achieve, it worked! But not for me.
Hard to follow at times with all the characters. Needs some editing. Otherwise, original for this type of genre.
Could not finish it. Not my cup of tea.
Ms. Blooding, just how are Harry Dresden and Paige Whiskey related? There cannot be two magic-users who get into these saviour-of-the-world scenarios who are not related. I have got to get my hands on Book 2.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I fell in love with the Whiskeys’ when I was introduced to them in book 0 – Over time this series has morphed into an absolute must-read series for anyone who enjoys the supernatural genre – I own box set one which includes episodes 0-4
The Whiskey Witches are such a fun and entertaining series –
In book one there is a lot going on – we meet the primary characters and their standing within the Whiskey family and/or relation to them. We also get to meet one of the primary antagonists (he is a bit unhinged, to say the least) as well as some other characters that I have yet to place as helpful or harmful – The storyline is a bit like a roller coaster we have our slower build-ups that include the characters and the universe that Blooding is creating – This is the first episode in the series and there is a lot provided to us – then suddenly we hit those fast-paced hearts in your throat scenes that have you battling your inner child from peeking ahead
I love Paige and I want Daxx (he grows on you I didn’t click with him till later in the series)
If you enjoy paranormal with a lot of action and intrigue, dotted with comedy, and a bit of angst on occasion then this is a series you do not want to pass up

Whiskey Witches is an intriguing story full of witches, demons, ghosts, angels, murder, mystery and family drama. I loved Detective Paige Whiskey, demon summoner, and her “internal dialogue”. Overall a good story my only complaint is that I want more Paige and Dexx. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
