Lieutenant Jacqueline “Jack” Daniels is having a bad week. Her live-in boyfriend has left her for his personal trainer, chronic insomnia has caused her to max out her credit cards with late-night home shopping purchases, and a frightening killer who calls himself “The Gingerbread Man” is dumping mutilated bodies in her district.
While avoiding the FBI and its moronic profiling computer, joining … computer, joining a dating service, mixing it up with street thugs, and parrying the advances of an uncouth PI, Jack and her binge-eating partner, Herb, must catch the maniac before he kills again… and Jack is next on his murder list.
Whiskey Sour is the first book in the bestselling Jack Daniels series, full of laugh-out-loud humor and edge-of-your-seat suspense.

Konrath’s Jack Daniels series is a roller coaster ride of thrills, chills, and belly laughs. I couldn’t put it down. And Jack is one of the smartest, toughest women in fiction. I wish I had written her.
What book would I recommend to read in a snowstorm? I would definitely start with this, but would make sure I had all the others in the series in case it was a BIG storm! The series is thrilling, funny, emptional and fun to read!
J.A. Konrath writes dark and very detailed and it can be gross, but at the same time…I likey! I do love dark reads—but there is also humor and wit.
A great blend.
Joe Konrath is one of the few authors who does humor as well as he does suspense. Jack Daniels and her cast of cohorts come alive in WHISKEY SOUR and really helped form the template for a lot of what’s going on in the genre now. Very entertaining.
As if sleepless nights, a failed relationship and a distinct lack of cash weren’t enough to deal with, life throws a curveball at Lieutenant Jacqueline “Jack” Daniels – just to keep her busy. When a serial killer calling himself ‘The Gingerbread Man’ starts dumping bodies on Jack’s patch, she finds herself not only investigating the case, but top …
I really love this series!
Jack or Jackie Daniels is one bad-ass cop. She doesn’t take and guff and she is not afraid to do the hard things. You have to admire her work ethic as a cop too. She just won’t stop, even when she should.
Intense, page-turning for the entire story.
There was a few moments, closer to the end of the novel, where I just …
This one will get you through a rainy day with no problems. It sizzles from page one. I think this is is one of Konraths first novels and it’s a doozy.
Wow! Impressive Crime Thriller!

very good story
Edge of your seat serious action but with enough humor to appeal to everyone. I questioned whether Jack was going to get the guy a couple of times and was totally frustrated with the end.
This is the first book of Konrath’s Jack Daniels series. It actually took me a few books to really “get” this series because it’s a mystery series, so I kept trying to mentally force it into some kind of mold I thought it should fit. Once I stopped doing that, I started really enjoying these books and the series got better with each book. There’s …
Book 1 of Jacqueline “Jack” Daniels series
I kind of went all-in on Konrath before really reading anything beyond his short stories. While I currently have fourteen of his novels already purchased and on my To Be Read list, this is really the first one I read. Yes, technically I did read AFRAID but he wrote that as Jack Kilborn, his not-so-secret …
Lt Jacqueline “Jack” Daniels is a homicide detective in Chicago. She’s an insomniac who just got dumped by her boyfriend, and there’s a serial killer running loose in her town. She’s not having a good week, but wait, there’s more. The killer is fixated on her, and she may be the next victim, unless Jack and her madcap group of fellow detectives, …
any of his books are worth the time to read. Very entertaining.
Atypical main character with a story that moves along at a good pace.
