Sparks fly between a former cop-turned-bartender and his new innkeeper in the first installment of a Montgomery Ink spin-off series from NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan. Dare Collins is a man who knows his whiskey and women—or at least that’s what he tells himself. When his family decides to hire on a new innkeeper for the inn above his bar and restaurant, he’s more than reluctant. … reluctant. Especially when he meets the new hire. But he’ll soon find that he has no choice but to work with this city girl and accept her new ideas and the burning attraction between them.
Kenzie Owens left her old life and an abusive relationship behind her—or so she thought. She figures she’ll be safe in Whiskey, Pennsylvania but after one look at her new boss, Dare Collins, she might still be in danger, or at least her heart. And when her past catches up with her despite her attempts to avoid it, it’s more than her heart on the line. This time, it might mean her life.

If you have been reading the Montgomery Ink series you will know Tabby, this new series, Whiskey and Lies, is about her brothers. First up we have Dare. Dare Collins is a former police officer who now owns and runs the Bar and Restaurant connected to his families Inn. Dare also has a young son, Nathan, from a prior relationship. Dare doesn’t like change, that’s really an understatement but you get the point, so when his parents spring on him that they are hiring someone to run the Inn so they can retire he isn’t happy. Yes this is a bit selfish of him but there are reasons to why he is the way he is.
Kenzie Owens has left an abusive marriage and is looking to a new life for herself and that begins with moving into Whiskey Inn and running it so that the owners can retire.
Dare and Kenzie are like oil and water when they first meet but thankfully they take the spark of annoyance and change it into something else. What we are left with is a great story with lots of chemistry between the two and each of them helping the other to overcome past hurts in order to have a life they deserve.
I would like to mention that this book was written by Carrie Ann Ryan with the help of her husband Daniel whom passed before the final edits. Daniel will be truly missed not only by Carrie Ann and their family and friends but also by those of us who got to know him a bit better through Team Carrie Ann. Carrie Ann, you are in my thoughts and prayers and I am sure you did Daniel proud with this story. xoxo

This is book 1 in the Whiskey and Lies Trilogy, and ties in with the Montgomery Ink series. The guys in this series are the brothers of Tabby, from Ink Exposed. It takes place in a small town in Pennsylvania, named Whiskey.
Dare is a single father, and owner of a bar/restaurant that is tied in with his family’s historic Inn. Kenzie is the new innkeeper that is hired by his parents. The two have what could only be described as a rocky first meeting. Explosive feelings, dangerous pasts, and scary encounters throw the two together, as well as propel the story forward.
Dare and Kenzie both have a hard time talking about, or even admitting to themselves, how they are feeling. Dare has a past that makes him feel less than worthy of a woman like Kenzie. Kenzie has a past that haunts her, and makes her scared to open her heart up to Dare.
I love how protective Dare is of Kenzie, because its just what she needs, even if she doesn’t know it at the time. I love how strong Kenzie is, how she has overcome so much, and still comes out on the other side as such a good person.
I’ve loved all of the Montgomery Ink books, as well as the Gallagher brothers trilogy. Book 1 of the Whiskey and Lies series has proven to be just as enjoyable. I can’t wait to read Fox and Loch’s books!
She did it again; Carrie Ann has made me fall for another family in the Montgomery Ink world. Whiskey Secrets is the first book in this new series about Tabby’s brothers. Dare Collins is a former cop-turned-bartender who falls for the new innkeeper Kenzie Owens. Both have to overcome some things from their past before they can move forward with each other.
Like all of Carrie Ann books, this is well written and you will get hooked on the first chapter. You will fall in love with the Collins Brothers just like you did with the Gallagher’s. I can’t wait to read more about this family and the new characters that you were introduced to in this book.
P.S – the acknowledgement was beautiful!
I greatly enjoy the various Montgomery Ink series; I’d hope I’d enjoy this as much but I felt it was not up to the same level as the “Inks.”
Eewww just gross. Graphic sex scenes over and over and atrocious language
Sorry to say I was disappointed when I started to read and quickly discovered that I had purchased this book previously under another cover. I never did find it in my library so it was sneakily disguised under another cover. I find this very annoying when I spend as much time and money on kindle books and I do. I loved this author and her writing and this is such a shame. Frankly speaking, the first time around this book was great and I did enjoy it very much. If a book is going to be released a 2nd time under a 2nd cover or a different name it should be noted right up front and cent in the advertising so that the public won’t purchase it twice.!!
Whiskey Secrets by Carrie Ann Ryan, is a romance teeming with smokey hot sex , fire hot alpha males and the smooth as ice women who love them. The story that begins a series dealing with the Collins family of Whiskey, Pennsylvania, is typical Carrie Ann Ryan, with vivid descriptions of settings and the Collin’s family. It’s like you have lived there all your life! After reading Whiskey Secrets I can draw a map of Whiskey and conduct virtual walking tours identifying all the familiar landmarks. Like the Montgomery’s in her Montgomery Ink series, the Collins are easy to fall in love with. Whiskey Secrets, however, mostly centers on the oldest of the Collin brothers, Dare, and the newly hired innkeeper, for the family inn, Kenzie. Carrie Ann carefully develops her two main characters and the journey to true love, in such a way that you quickly can see how their minds work. You can almost anticipate the changes in the relationship before the characters themselves do. It’s the type of book that has you talking to your book friends as though they are real. A momentary escape from reality, that might have the people around you think you have lost your mind. Don’t worry it’s only temporary, as Whiskey Secrets, like all good romances does end. Though, if your like me you will hate to say good-bye! The book was entertaining and had the happily ever after I require from my romance authors. The sex was explicit as well as panty melting hot, making me keen to try some of the scenes for myself. Much to my hubby’s delight, I might add! Definitely in the adults only section. It is more then just sex. As always Carrie’s emphasis is on the growing love relationship and the fact that love does conquer all!
The books are stand alone and there are no cliffhangers! But as characters are repeated, as this is a book about a family, it would be best to read in order. Also if you have never read Montgomery Ink series, you might want to read those too. Though, Carrie Ann Ryan does a very good job of clueing the reader in to who is who, in her stories. The best part is that Carrie Ann already has a second and third book in the series. I can pick up Whiskey Reveals, without a wait.
Read Whiskey Secrets for yourself and see why Carrie Ann Ryan has earned a place among my favorite romance writers.
I really enjoyed this book
Wonderful story that draws you in with lots of sexual angst and twists and turns.
Enjoyed this book. Loved the characters.
Lots of twists and turns but they got there in the end
Cover to cover in one sitting. Couldn’t put it down!
The setting in an inn and the name of the town instantly attract attention.
Nice small town setting
I likes these characters and this story. The sex was extremely graphic. More than I like!
Just ok. It was a softer side from the previous books. I had a hard time relating to Dare he was just soft and confusing. I am surprised about this book because the first series was hot and sexy.
Another great story by this author. Have read them all and eagerly await the next one!
