Guys have rules. Rule #1: You don’t date your sister’s best friend.
Bentley Sullivan hasn’t found the one. He’s always been the good guy – the gentleman. With one quick, and possibly irrational, decision everything changes. After a case of mistaken identity and a drunken kiss, Ben is convinced that the one is finally right in front of him. Only, she’s untouchable.
Girls have rules. Rule #1: … have rules. Rule #1: You don’t date your best friend’s brother.
Piper Lawrence has not been successful in love. Almost as quickly as she swears off men, he comes into her life. Her childhood crush and the man who has set the standards for every man she’s ever dated, he is also the one man she can’t have.
A single kiss changes it all.

I loved every aspect of this book. Being the younger sister of two very handsome brothers I completely related to the story line.
I read this book and then read all of the books that come next in the series. Andrea Johnston is a very good writer, easy to read with a good story. The friends in these books are the type everyone wants to have…the type to help no matter what. I loved reading the stories and hope that she writes about a few of the other characters mentioned.
Very entertaining, and sweet. Ben is a dream book boyfriend. So romantic and loving. Totally loved this romantic story. Highly recommend.
Good read
I loved this book
3.5 s
Whiskey and Honey is a sweet small-town romance that warmed my heart. The characters are fun and full of personality. There are many moments of laughter and friendship which keep the story dynamics interesting. The drama and angst levels are revved up and fed by multiple sources.
I enjoyed the sense of family by blood and by choice coming together to celebrate and support each other. I had issues with some technical points of the story. However, I did enjoy the overall reading experience. Andrea Johnston has created a good base of scenarios and characters who will fuel more sweet stories.
I appreciated the opportunity to read this book are look forward to reading more work from this author.
This was my first read from this Author and I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t wait to see how this story played out. I did like the main characters Ben and Piper. Their connection was completely instant from the moment of the ‘Kiss’, no matter how hard they try to deny it, they were drawn to each other.
I did get slightly frustrated with Piper a bit. She had this totally amazing guy declaring his feelings for her and she was blowing hot and cold. I just wanted to shake her and say if you don’t want him I will have him.
The secondary characters are intriguing and I really want Jameson and Ashton’s story! I have added it to my KU must read list.
I will certainly be looking out for future books from this Author.
It was a good book. It had everything. It was romantic, sweet, it had drama and some steamy scenes. Ben is super sweet and honest, he’s genuinely a good guy. Piper has a big heart, she’s a sweetheart but super insecure. Don’t get me wrong, I love a book with a shy, sweet, insecure female character, but I think it was a bit too much. The fact that Ben had to constantly reassure her about her worth and to stop doubting herself was a bit tiring and made the story a bit repetitive and boring. It’s a good book, and I’m sure some people will love it. So, if you like a brother’s best friend, with a shy but sassy, sweet and insecure female character then you should give this one a shot
Such a great read. Piper and Bentley have known each other their whole lives, he’s her best friends older brother. Piper has always had a thing for Ben, but has never acted on her attraction because he’s been off limits. When out with friends, Ben steps in to help a lady in distress and kisses her, he’s shocked to find out that it’s his sister’s best friend! I loved the dynamic and attraction between Piper and Ben. A really sweet story and I one highly recommend.
Bentley aka Ben Sullivan went away to college and never looked back but now years later he is ready to come home. His first night back he meets his old friends at the bar to catch up and in walks a girl that peaks his interest so much that he won’t stop at anything to speak to her. Piper comes to the bar to drown her sorrows and vent to her best friend about catching her boyfriend cheating on her. As she is yelling at her phone because the ex is calling Ben comes up, one thing leads to another and Ben kisses her, snaps a pic and the rest is history. Except that Ben doesn’t realize that his smokin’ hot babe is his little sister’s best friend that he has known forever.
I really wanted to like this one but I just couldn’t connect. There were too many things that irritated me. Piper’s refusal to do anything for herself or because she wanted to was annoying. Her constantly saying she can’t because of her best friend got soooooo trying and tiring. I was beyond over it. Then there was all this mention of Ben acting alpha or caveman and yeeeeaaahhh – nope didn’t see that at all. It was all just super awkward and the dialogue between everyone seemed forced – wasn’t natural to me. I just didn’t connect with this one. Maybe I am over the bother/sister’s best friend trope for a bit but this one just didn’t work for me.
Wonderful series
This was a sweet best friend’s brother love story. Ben and Piper are two deserving characters who find love in each other, but can their love survive hiding and secrets from the one person they both love the most? This was a great start to this series and I can’t wait to read Ashton’s story!
Piper Lawrence has loved her best friend’s brother for as long as she can remember, but to him, she was just another little sister to look after. Piper has never acted on her attraction though, knowing for one that he was totally off limits, and two, because good men like him don’t date women like her…and if by chance they do they always leave for something better. With him being away for so many years it has been fairly easy to avoid addressing her feelings for him, but now that he is home it’s a whole different story…
Bentley Sullivan is ready to start a new chapter in his life, he’s returning to home to teach at a local school, and hopefully create a new life for himself, and rebuild his relationship with his family. His plan is to step away from dating for a while, and let himself heal from his latest relationship, and then in time look for the right woman to add to his new life. But after reuniting with his buddies for drinks his plan quickly goes out the window when he witnesses a gorgeous damsel in distress, and decides to step in save the day, and stake his claim… only to find out he his just locked lips with his sister’s best friend!
Ben and Piper’s story captured my attention right from the start, and had me flying right through the pages in search of what I hoped to be a well deserved happily ever after, and I say I was DEFINITELY not disappointed with that I found. While their relationship may have started off a little unconventional, it turned out to be something very beautiful, and oh so heartwarming to watch unfold. This was my first encounter with Ms. Johnston’s work, and I have to say I loved what I discovered, and wholeheartedly look forward to reading more from her in the very near future. Her wonderfully crafted story and endearing characters won me over from the very first page, and left an indelible mark on my heart!! Highly recommend this one, it’s sure to give you the feels!!
This book was just the start of something awesome. The characters personalities and love for one another made me want friends like that! Without giving away the story I love how the book ends.
Well I read these books out of order, so I read book #3 first. But they are written stand-alone enough that I could do that and still go back and enjoy book #1.
Ben & Piper. Known each other since childhood. Piper was always just Ben’s kid sister’s best friend. Until Ben moves away for a while and returns home. Seeing Piper in a whole new way.
Ben is coming off a broken relationship. Piper just dumped her jerkwad of a boyfriend for cheating on her. Some sparks fly between them. But they fight it. They think they’ll end up hurting Ashton (the kid sister/BFF) if they date and it doesn’t work out.
I enjoyed watching them dance around it, all the while knowing they were meant to be together. They even work at the same place, since they are both teachers. And all their friends are mutual. So life keeps throwing them together.
A sweet love story, even if they had to take a roundabout way to get there!
While I went into this book expecting one thing (a super cheesy romance), I came out of it with much more! The insta-attraction didn’t bother me in this story, mostly because it’s explained right away! Piper is Ashton’s best friend since childhood and Ben is Ashton’s big brother… no one expected them to fall in love…
Piper is a straight-laced kindergarten teacher. She’s very put together in all areas of her life except her relationships.. her man picker is broken. She is known for picking some bad apples and no one is worse than Tony…
Ben moved away ten years ago… now he’s back and better than ever. He’s looking to settle down since what he found away from small town North Carolina just didn’t cut it for him. On his first night home, he ends up sticking his foot in his mouth and things get really interesting from there!
I wish there wasn’t so much back and forth in this book between Ben and Piper – I wish things would have settled down just a little sooner and we could of had more of the sweet stuff at the end… but I still loved their story and I connected with them! My husband and I are together now after a similar situation of knowing each other years but not getting together until after his divorce and after I ended a 5 year long engagement to someone else. This was a sweet romance, and it fills every area of my heart! It makes me want to create my own game of charades! (:
An inciting, entertaining read… perfect for those who love love!
I understand this book SO much because I have the same rules! It is almost like you don’t want to play where you eat and sleep because, hello, awkward times may be ahead if something does not work out the way you hope. This story has a smooth sailing storyline that flows like whiskey. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
