“I’m afraid my vagina might turn itself inside out if you try to give it another orgasm so soon.” — Scarlett BodineRaised by her three overbearing brothers, Scarlett is a hell-raising tomboy with a tool belt. A tornado stirring up trouble everywhere she goes. Her favorite pastimes? Drinking any man under the table and two-stepping. But she has zero interest in love. Scarlett’s only being … interest in love. Scarlett’s only being neighborly when she claims her sexy next-door neighbor as her new pet project.
Devlin is a man at rock bottom. Marriage, political career, five-year plan to Washington, D.C. All destroyed with one well-placed jab. The golden boy is now the black sheep relegated to Bootleg Springs, a tiny West Virginia town with two claims to fame: 1. Moonshine and 2. The cold case disappearance of a teen girl.
Devlin just wants to lick his wounds. But Scarlett has other ideas for his tongue… and the rest of him. She’s determined to bring him back to life, even if getting him back on his feet means never seeing him again. But when an old mystery becomes new news, she’ll need his help to survive the scandal.

Such a fun read. Lots of laughter. Great characters, town, and a dose of suspense. Fair warning – there is an underlying mystery that will take 5 more books to solve. A little hard for those that like all the strings tied up by the end of the story. Upside is 5 more visits to Bootleg Springs. Well edited.
Devlin McAllister is having a tough time. He found out his wife was cheating with a fellow politician, who he proceeded to punch on the state house floor. His parents suggested some time away to let things blow over, while also suggesting he might want to reconcile with his cheating wife. Devlin finds himself hiding out in Bootleg Springs, with no idea of where his messed up life is going. His next door neighbor, Scarlett Bodine, explodes into his life and proceeds to drag him out of the quiet and into her whirlwind of a life. Scarlett embraces life for all she is worth. She runs her own handyman business, climbs onto roofs without an ounce of fear, holds her liquor better than anyone around, and doesn’t back down from anyone for anything. Devlin could learn a thing or two. Along the bumpy road to HEA, Devlin must deal with Scarlett’s brothers – including a new one no one knew about. The Bodine brothers look out for their sister as best they can, but trying to keep up with Scarlett is quite a challenge. Things are going fairly well until Scarlett stumbles across a clue in a decade old cold case. And since that clue will draw unwanted attention to her family, Scarlett doesn’t want it to adversely effect Devlin. Will she be able to let him go? Will Devlin allow Scarlett to push him away?
Reading the romance between Devlin and Scarlett was a lot of fun. People from very different families and places in life learn to let go and love. The mystery of what happened to Callie Kendall will unravel throughout the next 5 books. Meanwhile, the brothers will get their own stories. I have enjoyed several books written by both Ms. Score and Ms. Kingsley. Looking forward to their continued collaboration and trips to Bootleg Springs. Enjoy!
First time reading this author and wow! So good! Loved that Scarlett was strong and independent. Looking forward to reading more about the Bodine brothers and the happenings in the small town of Bootleg Springs.
This was highly recommend in a fb group. Once I read the description, it made me chuckle and I immediately clicked it. This was so much fun that I read it in one shot and couldn’t put it down. Scarlett is, as my mom would say, a hoot. I love her so much! I love that there’s going to be 6 books in this series. I can not wait to read about the other brothers. Great story!
Whiskey Chaser is book 1 in the Bootleg Springs series and the first book I have read from either author but definitely not my last. Devlin is a politician in the middle of a scandal so he escapes to his grandmas town to hide and lick his wounds. While there he meets Scarlett his feisty neighbor and sparks start to fly. I loved Devlin and Scarlett, their chemistry was awesome, the story was so funny at times, her brothers were awesome and the town was full of gossipers and love. I’m looking forward to more in this series.
I just absolutely loved this. Everything from the town to the characters to the mystery.
I.
Loved.
It.
How often can you read a book where everything about it makes you feel good?
Welcome to Bootleg Springs, a town so rich in tradition you’ll almost choke on it.
The town with the softball games that leaves everyone too drunk to play.
The town known for it’s Moonshine.
Whiskey Chaser was that feel good book that had you rooting for the couple from the very first page. You didn’t know what you were getting into, but you knew you already loved each person as individuals and you just knew they’d be the perfect complements to each other.
Scarlett and Devlin? Wow! These two are awesome. Scarlett is all bad ass and true to herself. Devlin is finding himself (oddly enough, this does not take away from his alpha-ness) after a shitstorm took over his life, but he’s so sexy and demanding of Scarlett–in all the right ways–that I just fell for him immediately.
The Bodines. Man. This is the family I want. This is the familial bond I wish I had with my siblings. The Bodines serve their own brand of justice, much like Bootleg does. But the Bodines are protective of each other before anyone else. They fight, they stand their ground, and they defend the family.
If you aren’t half in love with this town already, then just grab Whiskey Chaser and let the authors do the talking. This is the kind of book you pick up and read in one sitting (ignore the fact it took me three days, I had to adult).
It’s the kind of book that’ll leave you feeling good and asking yourself #WhatHappenedToCallie?
Plus, you’ll wanna know who manages to wrangle those Bodines, so you’ll stick around for the rest of the series.
Bring on the Bodines! I’m ready for more!
Great local color. Terrific characters. Great writing. Fun, family and small town feel. There is a continuing mystery i the book series. Each H & get their HEA. This is the first book in the series. Co-authored.
Hot hot hot! Must read!
The quirky, small town characters were so real to my own experience growing up near WV. I will keep coming back for more from this series.
Loved it.
I’m so thrilled for this new series from Lucy! Small town – check. Broody, grumpy males – check. A kickass heroine – check. A town chicken – check.
This book is laugh out loud funny yet there are underlying deeper complex issues that surface in the Bodine family and the town!
Scarlett, the youngest sibling – the caretaker, the fixer. She is AMAZING! I love her feistiness, her need to live love to the fullest and her crazy antics!!
Devlin didn’t want to be sent to West Virginia, he was used to his rigid life back home. But when Hurricane Scarlett knocks him off his path, watching him fight it was like a scene from Twister. It’s gonna happen so just hunker down.
I enjoyed these two together SO MUCH!
The other characters are just as important , the groundwork for their evolution is apparent. It’s exciting to see where this will lead us!! I can’t wait to see what’s in store.
Whiskey Chaser is a kickass start to another fun yet suspenseful series!
2 1/2 stars. I am a big fan of Lucy Score and have enjoyed Claire Kingsley, but this was a total miss for me. The antics of the town were way over the top IMO. Coupled with the speech pattern/accent, it felt more like a bad caricature of “hill billy” or “red neck”.
