Ruby has a problem… lectures—asking for help to be returned home.
Most of these creatures mean no harm, but when a witch with more magical skill than Ruby hunts her down, trying to rid magic from this realm, Ruby turns to her friends for help.
You’d think a trio of a fire-breathing pet dragon, a dragon hunting boyfriend from the other world, and a witch could conquer anything, right?
But when Ruby’s pet dragon disappears, and she discovers her boyfriend’s hiding a secret, her little trio falls apart.
Alone and unsure who to trust, Ruby must embrace the powers that only seem to cause trouble, otherwise, she’s being sent away from her home and those she loves forever.

While the Dragon’s Away by Joynell Schultz is an amazing story that I have had the pleasure to read. This is book number two in this amazing series and I am so in love with this series already and can not wait for the next book to come out. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves readng about dragons, fantasy and paranoral romances in their stories.

I really liked the first book, Dragon’s are a Girl’s Best Friend, but the second felt more like a filler story. In the second book, While the Dragon’s Away, Ruby, Ty, and Luke get up to plenty of zany adventures and Luke disappears for a while. There is a big reveal about Ty, which we’ve all been waiting for, but it’s kind of cheesy. I also felt annoyed at Ruby’s internal struggles. She’s all over the place. I also think she’s a bit hard on Ty. Hopefully they’ll learn to work well together and that we’ll find out more about Ruby’s dad!
I received an ARC. This is my honest and voluntary review.
I’m really enjoying this series, and book 2 builds on the things in book 1. I’m dying to read book 3, and I have suspicions as to what may be, but we won’t go there. We’ll just enjoy the ride because it is like a roller coaster.
For real, I need a dragon.
Luke is still my favorite part of this story. I’m definitely getting a dragon, haha.
So in Book 2 we get… roommate drama! Secrets, and more adventure, and more trouble with the tear. For real, girl, be careful with your magic.
Still loving the series and am looking forward to book 3.

While The Dragons Away by Joynell Schultz is the second book in The Quarter Witch Chronicles. In this book, Ruby and her otherworld boyfriend Ty are continuing on in their relationship as normal day to day problems arise which include dragons, sprites, jackalopes, brownies, and witches from Ty’s realm. All of this and a full load of college classes continue to intrude into Ruby’s ability to figure out how to close a magical rip between worlds. This book was so much fun to read. It has just the right amounts of adventure and romance with a huge helping of magic to make the story even more fun. While The Dragons Away is a magical read!
A very fun, sexy, witty and entertaining adventure filled with danger, magic, secrets, drama and heart pounding action…. really enjoyed this story from beginning to end and around every emotional twist. This is shaping up to be a very fun and thrilling series and I am so looking forward to the next adventure. Loved it!
Fun, flirty and magical! I’ve fallen in love with this series and I can’t say enough about it! I mean, fairies, brownies, sprites, poisonous moths, dragons, and a toad with burning spit…how great is that?! Throw in a witch that’s trying to get anything and everything magical back into the other realm and you’ve got a great story!

An intriguing continuation of the first book, “Dragons Are A Girl’s Best Friend”. Even when I had loads to do I found myself wanting to sit down and read to find out what happens next. I love how this story holds onto me and keeps me excited to read about what’s coming next. Every twist and turn makes you feel like you’re on a roller coaster…holding your breath as you go up and up…then making your feet tingle as you fly down so fast it takes your breath away! I can’t wait to see what happens next! Great job Ms. Schultz! Loving every minute of it!
Roommate issues, which start the novella, are the least of Ruby and Ty’s problems in this book. Ruby doesn’t only have to balance her human concerns but also magical ones. Secrets are revealed as Book 2 delves deeper into the world acknowledged in Book 1—and these will have an impact on Ruby and Ty’s future. This book asks questions that I’m looking forward to future ones answering, particularly about the magical realm that Ty is a part of (and Ruby is to a certain degree). Ruby seems more grown up in this book, and her relationship with Ty continues to evolve. Magic, when used, appears to have consequences that can’t always be foreseen.
As I’ve come to expect from Ms. Schultz’s work, the world of this book is fully imagined and well described, yet she doesn’t overburden the narrative with too much at once. At this point, we’re only getting glimpses of the full extent what magic means and the mostly unseen magical realm, but it is enough to tantalize and make you wonder about the full extent of it all. I, for one, am looking forward to the next installment of the series.

Ruby, Sonja, and Ty were looking for another roommate to help share expenses. Not being from Earth, Ty didn’t have papers he needed to get a job to help financially, but he was still trying. Maxwell Smith arrived to see if the apartment and his contribution would help with rent, but he was not what Ruby expected. Instead of another college student, he was an elderly man and had a tiny little dog that apparently could see the invisible dragon, Luke! Poochy barked constantly until Ty quietly put Luke in the bedroom and shut the door! Poochy followed into the room that Maxwell would be renting, left a puddle on the wood floor, then ran back out to bark and scratch energetically on Ruby’s door where Luke was hidden. In only a few minutes, the dog had begun to destroy the house! But bills were piling up and Ruby needed the money. Sonja pointed out they could not even study with the noise the dog constantly made.
The news reported a dragon sighting, and Ty was ready to hunt it down. Then Ruby saw a little man, a brownie, hiding in the bushes near the house. There had been a tear between our world and Ty’s magical world, but Liam was supposed to have sealed it. So why are they seeing these creatures on our side of the tear?
Summer Thomson was the next candidate for roommate. She was shy, quiet, and would spend most of her time in her room. Perfect! But when the brownie exploded a cake mix in the kitchen and Luke jumped up and down on the bed upstairs making a thumping noise in a supposedly empty room, Summer nervously ran for the door.
When Ty and Ruby trapped the brownie, she figured they had to open the tear so that they could send the brownie and the dragon, when they caught it, through to Ty’s world. The tear had not been sealed. They returned the brownie to its world and captured the dragon. But when they got back to the tear, it had ripped open even wider! And now a troublesome witch more powerful than Ruby has tracked her down and decided she — and her dragon, Luke – should be over on the other side! Now what will she do? How can she fight back?
I just love the books in this series! There is always something happening, and the reader never knows how things will turn out! Each act of magic seems to have a price of some sort, so it opens up even more trouble! But the trio of a fire-breathing pet dragon, a dragon hunting boyfriend from the other world, and a quarter-witch never give up! Grab your copy and see what kind of adventure the friends are dealing with this time!
This was another great book featuring Ruby, Ty McHottie, and Luke. I kind of think the 1st book was a little, teeny bit better, but this was still a highly entertaining story about witchcraft, dragons, magical creatures, friendship, love, and trust.

This is the second book in the Quarter Witch Chronicles and it is just as good as the first book (which I loved). Ruby has a lot on her plate. She is trying to figure out her newly discovered witch abilities, she’s attending college, her unpaid bills are piling up, all while trying to keep magical creatures in the realm where they belong. Fortunately, she is not alone. Her boyfriend Ty and her friend Luke, who just happens to be a dragon are there to help. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
AW! I love how this book ends! True, the story is not over yet, and I am super excited to read the next installment, but I think Ms. Schultz did a great job of wrapping up the plot lines in While the Dragon’s Away. There were a couple surprises and revelations, we got to see some significant growth in Ruby, there was development in Ruby and Ty’s relationship, and she continued to learn about her witch abilities. At the same time, we’re set up with a great segue into the next part of Ruby’s story. The descriptions and details of the realms make it easy for me to feel like I’m immersed in this world and in Ruby’s life. All the while, I am getting more and more curious about the future – what will happen with Ruby’s college, home, friend/roommate, and other “human world” scenarios? And don’t even get me started on all of my questions about Ty, Luke, Ruby’s dad, and the other realm! I have no doubt, however things play out, that the journey to those answers will be fun, interesting, entertaining, and entirely engrossing!
Hermione was a supporting character in the Harry Potter books, but she really deserved her own series – such a feisty independent soft-hearted girl. I did not really notice the similarities between Ruby and Hermione until I read this book and thought about it. All that effort to get ahead academically, to deal with roommates (or friends) – then you throw in the magic (and boyfriends!)!! At least, Hermione did not have to hide things from a muggle roomie!!

I hope this series never stops as I can’t get enough of it. The book is so very entertaining and fun with some romance to make it even better. I am so looking forward to seeing what the author has in store for her main characters. If you like a good paranormal romance that’s good for young adults and up, you will love this read!!!!
The Quarter Witch Chronicles:
While the Dragon’s Away #2 –This story picks up about six months after Ruby discovers she’s a witch. She has a lot on her plate and now she needs sideboards to contain everything. There’s a powerful hunter from Ty’s realm and it’s about to hit the fan.
The storylines are engaging and intriguing. I like the new character, although she’s very dangerous for Ruby and company, you’ve got to admire her. Add to this mix, finals. Yep, what a couple of wonky weeks can do to a girl. There are secrets that come out in the wash, too, which I’ll keep to myself, they’re secrets! Good imagination and descriptions keep the reader immersed and then too quickly, the last page is read. Squawk!
There’s an overview, which I appreciate knowing about a book before I read it. I contacted the author to review her books and received this book through Booksprout. 5*
Dragons are a Girl’s Best Friend #1 – One of my favorite authors regardless of what she writes. I appreciated the humorous overview since I never know what most stories are about and I don’t have the time to look them up. The last dragon I cared about was Puff and I left him behind with my childhood, but this dragon is so sweet and intriguing, well.
The humor throughout this story made even the sad parts better. Yes, the first chapter is full of sadness and then the beginning of the second kicks her teeth down her throat. But then we met Liam and things improve drastically. Of course, there’s Luke the Dragon to help make the storylines interesting and intriguing. Although I don’t care for this age group, I liked the characters and their most of their dialog. Ruby’s constant state of panic and her bad thoughts were a little too much at times, but she’s eighteen and learning.
The author’s vivid imagination and descriptions always keep me entertained and there in the story and this story is no different. I’m glad the next two books come out in June; so far, this has been an interesting and fun read. I contacted the author to review her books and received this book through Booksprout. 4*
The Quarter Witch Chronicles end.
Tales of Fairy Godmothers Series:
Hidden #1- A lovely, heartwarming novella about discovery, love and kindness, and loneliness. Searching for her baby’s father leads a pregnant fairy to new adventures and learning experiences, and a vast change to her life, while she shares her godmother skills without her magic. There’s plenty of humor and danger included in this sweet story. 5*
Trapped #2- Another lovely, heartwarming novella about trust, love and kindness, and loneliness. Almost dead when saved by one boy after his brother captured the fairy in a vent less jar while hunting for bugs. Cared for by the human until she returns to her fairy world, she returns every year on her birthday seeking the human boy. Their friendship grows and they learn of each other and their worlds. On her second to last trip back, their friendship is shaken. Making her last wish to encompass four days in his world, they sort, work and love their friendship back. There’s humor and sadness, but also joy in this well written, full of vivid descriptions novella. I contacted the author to review her books and received this through Booksprout. 5*
