I don’t think I have access to the words that would do this review just. I’m in utter AWE of the originality of this story. I’m STUNNED by the incredibly beautiful imagery of the sceneries and landscapes this story took me to. I’m BREATHLESS from the amount of emotion this story evoked in me. My heart soared at all the highs and was in free fall during all the lows…but one thing is for certain, my heart was in this story from the very beginning. And now that the story has ended, I feel like I left a part of me inside those pages. My chest aches with a combination of sadness and fulfillment. Fulfilling because the story spoke to my every dream of what love is and should be. Sad because in a real world, love isn’t always that beautiful. But we can only hope. And hope is what I take away from what I just read. Hope is what we all need to make ourselves, the people around us and even the world a better place. This BOOK made me FEEL good in so many ways.
Adele is in the prime of her life but at a point where she knows/feels like something is missing. Life is stagnant. But it’s not until the accident that she enters another realm where colors are brighter, and magic feels normal and the greenest eyes speak to her soul. No ones knows everything the mind is capable of. And we can only speculate what is possible for those in a coma. But whose to say that in a state like that, magic isn’t possible? Because, in my opinion, a story like this is magical. The possibility is in the eyes of those who believe. Soulmates are real and those lucky enough to find their soulmate are blessed. And with a love as transcendent as what Adele finds; where she believes whole-heartedly, without doubt that the love she found is more real than anything in her life – that’s magical. The conviction, the passion and strength she used to fight for and hold on to this deep burning, brilliantly shining and never-ending love…it had me a believer.
Stylô Fantome has always impressed me with her writing and story telling and I wouldn’t expect anything less than perfection; however THIS story has absolutely blown me away. It was gentle in its delivery, subtle in the way it captured my heart and captivating at how it never let go. Even writing this- my chest still feels fluttery and my head feels foggy. This is most definitely a book hangover I’m feeling and I can’t even imagine how ill feel tomorrow.
“How can I love someone I’ve never met?” he asked. “Someone I don’t really know?”
How do you fall in love during a coma? It’s insane to even think of the possibility, but Stylo Fantome shows you how it could be possible in this gripping and unique romantic drama.
“Just because you can’t recognize me,” she started. “Doesn’t mean your soul can’t.”
Books like this is why I read. They make the impossible seem possible, and make you question if it’s really even impossible at all and this book has left my head still reeling from its magic. It touched my soul and sparked new belief in me. Stylo completely captivated me with her words.
Told in 3rd person (which I’m not normally a fan of but this author is the only one who can always make it work for me because she adds so much depth and lets you into her characters), we follow Adele during her dreamlike state while in a coma where she meets and falls in love with Jones, the man who guides her through her adventures on the other side of consciousness.
I won’t give away any spoilers but I adored every single character written in this incredible story. The plot was unbelievably extraordinary and well thought out… it almost kind of reminded me of Alice in Wonderland and the movie What Dreams May Come in a way with the creative world building.
“All of this is because you imagined it. You created it. You fell asleep, and you dreamed a dream so wonderful, you didn’t want to wake up.”
It was low on angst and steam but super heavy in the feels department. Tears flooded my eyes numerous times and my heart felt so full of love that I thought it would burst.
“From the first moment I met you, I knew you. Our souls were meant to meet, and will always meet. In this lifetime, in the next, in any reality, in any dream, wherever, whenever. I believe in that.”
My heart is still living in the now with these unforgettable characters and I don’t want to come down from the high that the beauty of this book has left me on. While I Was Away is definitely going on my list of favorite reads of 2019.
“Now, I’m in this moment, right now. With you. Just be in it with me.”
How can I love someone I’ve never met?”
“Someone I don’t really know?”
Well…stylo does the unthinkable and shows you HOW!!!
A stunning story oscillating between fantasy and reality till they sync orbits and merge as one love story
Compelling and captivating, it’s a story of a young girl- Adele Reins, who’s in a coma after her horrible accident. She’d been feeling detached and dispassionate for a ling time and the accident just happens at the wrong time
Nothing, and yet … she wanted more. It was like a piece of her had been missing for a long time, and she was just noticing.
While under she dreams and how the dreams and reality spin like a coin in her sleeping brain is very fascinating.
“All of this is because you imagined it. You created it. You fell asleep, and you dreamed a dream so wonderful, you didn’t want to wake up.”
Stylo is known for her thought provoking stories . Her muscle memory had touched upon the subject of coma patient and this book is more elaborate and shocking than that
This book has two parallel stories running between two sets of couples. Adele is struggling with and against Johannes Lund and Zoey her best friend with one of her brothers.
I shall stop right here, won’t give you any more deets.
Read this book for a rollercoaster ride…
