Where You Can Find Me had a little of everything – definite steam, a yummy alpha male with a touch of sweet, a heroine learning to take chances again, a lovely love story and to top it off with a cherry on top, a serial killer roaming Cincinnati picking people off! Bless my dark heart!
Luella Parsons is a 27 year old scientist who works with lab experiments so she’s in a pretty controlled environment in her job which totally fits her personality. She’s more of a homebody, somewhat alone besides her best friend, Evie and her older brother, Jameson and a little insecure and awkward. Luella has suffered loss in her life and she didn’t handle it all too well back then having to dig herself out of a hole. So she pretty much lives her life on the safe side.
Until… Jack McCabe – A little jolt to the system she never expected and usually wouldn’t run into. Unlike Luella, Evie is a wild cat and social butterfly and on a bid to find a good one night stand, she drags Luella out to party with her. There Luella falls into the zone after drinking the night away with Evie and having caught the eye of a tall, dark, handsome stranger, she for once drops caution to the wind and hooks up with him right there in the club. Yep, the bathroom scene of these two getting it on was hot and I loved that Jack was a dirty talker but not a creeper. Before he can get her name though, Luella’s sobriety kind of falls back into place and she takes off. End of random encounter. Until… she bumps into Jack the very next night in a liquor store and Jack isn’t going to let her go this time.
Jack’s a security specialist after having left the army after a 10 year stint. He runs it with his best friend from active juty, Grayson. As the serial killings all of a sudden ramp up and start to accelerate in number, Jack’s pulled in by the CPD to help out – they’re at their wits end. Since the whole book is told from Luella’s POV, most of the book the murders and the info surrounding them come from news broadcasts or Jack’s confiding in Luella. So, in many ways, even though gruesome, that takes a back story to the love affair and steamy hijinks. Jack loves pushing Luella to her limits which eventually leads to a hot menage a tois. But in the background the case is slowly chipping away at Jack’s sanity and is scaring the hell out of Luella. I will say there is someone alluded to as the possible killer and that ramps certain scenes up to uncomfortable, but damn, the twist at the end? Yeah, trying to put my head around that one after certain things Lu and Jack decided to experience together. Am I being cryptic? I really hope so because I don’t want to ruin any of this book for someone else. I really loved this one. Jameson was an OTT protective big brother but with Lu’s former struggles and what both of them have lost in the past, it totally fit. And Evie is just her sexy, little feisty self that makes a great BFF and secondary character.
But of course, the stars are Jack and Lu. He’s just so damn yummy, totally an alpha, loves a bit of dirty talk and dirty sex, ex-miitary man to boot and to top it off, he has no problems expressing his feelings so he gave me a little bit of everything. Lu’s awkwardness and anxiety was a little off putting at first until I saw all she’d had to contend with and, in the end, it was a moot point anywhere because Jack sure opened her up.
There is, of course, the serial killer reveal and the last chapters ramp up the dangers and kick you in the ass with a total surprise. So, the killings definitely are the background story. Thus the WTF? But it’s a long way in before the killer starts playing so close to home. However, when he does, he just heads straight to ground zero!
Really enjoyed this. Would not call it really dark (but dark to me is a whole level unto itself) Just a great combo of real romance, some hot and sexy times, some suspense and mystery thrown in and wham bam, WTH ending.
Giving it a very enthusiastic 4**** stars! Would’ve been 5 but I wanted the epilogue to be a little longer.
What an amazing suspenseful romance this book was, I was glued to my kindle form page one, I honestly don’t know why I haven’t read this book before I love all Fiona Cole’s books and Where You Can Find Me is not less than a stellar story.
Luella King and Jack MacCabe’s story is like no other. From a unique and steamy encounter, to a relationship that was unexpected, to a murder case investigation, to the most shocking revelation and a life treating moment where everything can be lost.
This story really catched my attention and gave me surprises that I didn’t see coming. The adrenaline of this story was all high and keep me at the edge of sit.
I definitely recommend this book.
I enjoyed this book. The story is a complex and intriguing blend of intense emotion, suspense, drama, danger, twists, darkness and heat. I thought the characters were alright. Neither one is going on my favorite list, but you certainly have to admit that their chemistry was potent and steamy. As a whole. I felt it was a very good read. This is my frank, freely posted review.
Where You Can Find Me is a fantastic read. What starts off steamy and hot as hell sexy soon turns into an exciting romantic suspense. It’s grisly and gritty with unpredictable twists and turns. I loved it!
ntense from the first page
Fiona Cole is always a one click author for me and this book is just another example as to why. Jack is one dirty talking hottie who snags the attention right away of our quirky, science nerd, nervous rambling Luella. Of course their story isn’t an easy one, but what great love story comes easy?!
3.5 Stars I liked Jack and I liked Lu … most of the time. Lu’s over-the-top emotions got old for me and made her seem less than a fully developed character and more of a histrionic. Although the homicides Jack investigated played such a big role in their story, I found that part of the story distracting and I was easily able to figure out who the murderer was. I wish the author had skipped that story line altogether and concentrated on Lu and Jack’s story. Watching a relationship unfold and getting to know characters gradually during their story is what makes a book excellent. I felt that in making Jack’s case such a big part of this story, the author dropped the ball on making her characters memorable. The writing itself was very good with no glaring grammatical errors. There’s plenty of humor, heat, angst and romance as well as a few interesting secondary characters who will hopefully get their own books in this series.
Suspenseful and sexy all at the same time. What more can you ask for.
I really enjoyed the story with love/murder mystery. But the final chapter ruined everything I had enjoyed. It was way too rushed. I would have preferred the author expanded a bit more before charging into that epilogue.
This book was on fire! The chemistry between the main characters was addicting from the very beginning. That alone makes this book 5 star worthy. Throw in a little bit of mystery with a dramatic twist, makes it all that much better. A great read that captivates you from the start.
This book is romantic suspense, with both the romance and suspense turned up to 11! My heart was pounding the entire time I was reading.
Cw: sexual assault
This is my favourite type of book to read. It had wonderful characters, issues from the past the characters are trying to overcome, steamy sexy scenes, some M/F/M and twists and turns you don’t see coming till it’s too late. I was literally screaming as it all came to a head. I cannot wait to read more books by this author in the future.
Absolutely loved this story! I usually don’t read murder mysteries but since Fiona Cole wrote it, I thought I’d better check it out, so happy I did!! The story is hot, fast paced, full of suspense and unpredictable scenes. I loved the chemistry between the main characters Luella and Jack. The secondary people Evie and Jameson were also strong and likable. I know they have a book too and can’t wait to read it!! This was Fiona’s debut novel and she sure did an amazing job!! There are some pretty intense moments and some extremely sizzling scenes that will keep you captivated!! I highly recommend this novel!!
Holy hell – this was my first introduction into Fiona Cole and I can’t believe what I just read. I couldn’t put the book down – I read the book in one day! The writing kept me entertained and interested while the story line kept me captivated. This definitely was a hot steamy book – extra emphasis on the “hot” and “steamy” adjectives. WOW. Jack.
I found the main character a little annoying yet empowering at the same time. Her empowering qualities overpowered the annoying side for me. As for Jack, he is all man. There wasn’t anything annoying I found about him.
There does seem to be a lot going on in the story. How Jack and Luella met, Jack’s job, Luella’s past, the murders, and something else entirely (that I don’t want to give away). A lot of things going on in the story that you don’t see the ending AT ALL. At least, I didn’t. Fiona Cole did a wonderful job in hiding the ending of this book. WOW!
I feel like that is all I can say about this book is WOW.
I can’t wait to find more books written by Fiona Cole. I’m hooked.
**I should point out that this book is suitable for 18+. Definitely some adult themed issues in this book**
Loved this debut novel from Fiona Cole! Lots of twists that I didn’t see coming, along with lots of hot & steamy scenes!! Looking forward to what she comes up with in the future!!
Jaw dropping, erotic and absolutely phenomenal
I’m still in shock after a surprising ending that I did not see coming. I swear you could fit another book between the last chapter and the epilogue but that is neither here nor there… because Where you can find me has just rocketed up my all time favourite books list. The fact this is Fiona Cole’s debut novel makes it all the more incredible – as this book does not come across like a debut at all.
“God, this was the best kiss I’d ever had. He moved his tongue like a promise of things to come. I didn’t know what was going on and I didn’t care. It was a moment, my moment, and I was taking it.”
Jack and Luella meet at a bar and their hot and steamy encounter is a new experience for them both – memorable, hot as all hell, and supposedly just a one night thing. The normally straight(er)-laced Luella King is a scientist and researcher and the night she shares with Jack – while unforgettable – is one she doesn’t think will happen again. But a chance encounter brings security expert, former serviceman and alpha-make Jack MacCabe back into Luella’s life and they decide to make the most of their second chance. That is until a serial killer becomes a top priority and what started off as an erotic romance novel quickly turns into an intense, intriguing romance suspense story that I could not put down.
I didn’t expect the twists and turns that Fiona brings in this book but I totally welcomed them. My jaw spent a good portion of the book on the floor – not only from the suspense and shock factors, but also the hot and steamy sex scenes. Jack and Luella are super smoking when together and the sexual explorations and journey they embark on is one I was truly fascinated and intrigued by. I will warn you, some of the scenes are not for the faint hearted, but they are worth every word!
Finally, the ending of this book may be a trigger for some – there are some truly horrifying scenes that you won’t see coming – but I feel that it was warranted in the storyline and Fiona did not add in anything for a shock factor. Jack and Luella’s story is one that you won’t be able to forget anytime soon and it’s definitely one of my favourite books ever!!
