#1 New York Times bestselling author J.R. Ward is heating things up this winter with a holiday novel featuring some of her most iconic Black Dagger Brothers. When Trez lost his beloved to a tragic death (The Shadows, Black Dagger Brotherhood #13), his soul was crushed and his destiny seemed relegated to suffering. But when he meets a mysterious female, he becomes convinced his true love has been … convinced his true love has been reincarnated. Is he right? Or has his grief created a disastrous delusion?
Therese has come to Caldwell to escape a rift with her bloodline. The revelation that she was adopted and not born into her family shakes the foundations of her identity, and she is determined to make it on her own. Her attraction to Trez is not what she’s looking for, except the sexy Shadow proves to be undeniable.
Has fate provided a grieving widower with a second chance…or is Trez too blinded by the past to see the present for what it really is? In this sensual, arresting book full of the themes of redemption and self-discovery, two lost souls find themselves at a crossroads where the heart is the only compass that can be trusted…but that may require a courage that neither of them possesses.

Swore I reviewed this book but Anywho loved reading this story. You love these brothers and can’t help but route for both their happiness. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Happy reading
This book was good, but not great.
What I liked about it was the focus of the entire novella was on our main couple, with no side plots to frustrate or distract us. I liked Trez. I liked the plot, mostly. The writing was excellent as always.
What I didn’t like about the book was Therese. And not because she was Serena. It is because she completely decided she didn’t have a family just because she was adopted? I mean, I could understand being angry for not telling her, but come on… she literally called them the people who raised her. They adopted her and never made her feel anything less than their daughter and sister, ever. So much so she had no idea. So love just disappears when you aren’t related? This whole plot point felt fake and forced, and made her seem shallow and selfish.
Otherwise, the book was entertaining and sweet. Not as sexy as most of the BDB books, but still steamy. Good read.
I was entranced by the first chapter — and that wasn’t even about the main characters! JR Ward weaves a snowy Christmas near fatal accident and didn’t even name names! But you just knew who the “Angel” was that saved this mortal from being wiped out by a semi! Yay Lassiter!
OK — this book is for the BDB (Black Dagger Brotherhood #17.5) faithful, for sure. It is Trez’s second chance (reincarnated) love story. I know everyone is droning on about the “reincarnation” — blah, blah, blah. Don’t care — I adored this story!
Therese was introduced to us a book or two ago as a new waitress at iAm’s restaurant. She looks like Selena (Trez’s love lost to a tragic disease in The Shadows — BDB book #13) but she isn’t actually Selena/or could be? In any event, she has dreams of Trez — maybe Selena’s thoughts….– and he keeps popping into the restaurant to see her. She has run away from her hometown in Michigan (Ms Ward even gives a shout out to my Spartan’s Tom Izzo) when she finds out she’s adopted.
Trez is absolutely heart sick, ready to end it all, devasted from his Selena lost. He seems relegated to misery — then he meets this “familiar” female and is swept away with a whirlwind (this is a novella peeps) romance. Is his grief throwing him a delusion or is she the real thing? It’s is a paranormal romance so you never know — JR Ward wraps this up with her signature wit and throws in a few of the other Brothers (and Bitty) with some spoiler tidbits for future reference/past wrap up.
This Cadwell Chrismas card is a super quick read and a little “sweeter” than Ward’s usual drama/angst to give Trez and Therese their HEA. The teaser for Ward’s upcoming Sinner BDB #18) book is more Butch/Vishous than Jo/Syn but with a few new twists.
Love love love my vampires in the Black Dagger Brotherhood!! An absolute must read for vamp lovers
I love her books. She never disappoints.
I have been waiting for the next part of Trez’s story. I still cry when I think about the exquisite love he shared and absolute heartbreak that ultimately defines the time he shared with Selena. The untethered honesty with which their story unfolds is unforgettable.
There are some hard truths that the main characters, Trez and Therese, must both face in this book. It was impossible to put down because each facet led me closer to the conclusion I needed to know. I was captivated by the sweet love that blossomed, scorched by the heat which consumed, and soothed when they finally find what they both deserve.
J.R. Ward continues to reel me into this addictive Black Dagger Brotherhood Universe with her humor, wit, and beautiful prose. Her constant commitment to love, loyalty, honesty, and family are themes which never grow old for me. The notion that one must always fight and protect those they hold dear also shines bright in this book. Where Winter Finds You is a legacy to the sentiment that love must be honest and well-intentioned if it is to survive.
Three months after Selena’s death, Trez is still walking around in a haze and feeling suicidal. The only thing that gives him hope is Terese, the new waitress at his brother’s restaurant, who is a doppelganger for his beloved. Terese felt betrayed by her family who never told her she was adopted, so she moved to Caldwell to get away from them. She’s felt inexplicably drawn to Trez ever since first meeting him, so it’s an easy step for her to fall into a romantic relationship with him, but when she finds out the truth, she feels betrayed all over again. I’ve loved these two since the beginning and they’re still great together in this story. Thanks to Lassiter performing a Christmas miracle to reunite them, my broken heart has finally been healed.
All of J. R. Wards characters are amazing. I have been waiting for the Trez and Serena story to continue and I was not disappointed. I was heartbroken for Trez. Now it’s the Trez and Therese story and all my questions are answered!
I always enjoy J.R. Ward’s book, but this one was especially meaningful because of the characters. It has a little bit of a holiday vibe to it as well, adding to the heartwarming quality of this book. As always, Ward delivers epic love stories and this one certainly did the trick of making me fall in love with the characters all over again.
So much tragedy surrounding the shadows… as one of my own characters states… Fate is not only a bitch, she bends you over and gives it to you without lube before walking away laughing….
Well, Trez has certainly been through the wringer and iAm has been along for the ride. All I can say is wow…
I stayed up until 6am this morning to finish this one and I wasn’t disappointed with so many twists and turns and moments of WTAF…
Conclusion, well, you need to read it yourself as I’m not a fan of spoilers. All I’ll say is, you are in for one roller-coaster of a ride and I enjoyed every moment J.R. Ward managed to spin into this tale…
This book! The healing of a broken heart and the connecting of two souls that will always recognize each other. It was a wonderful read and a fabulous addition to the series!
Trez has suffered immeasurably since his Selenas death, at times he has wanted to give up. His friends and family suffer daily watching it all unfold. Until Theresa enters his world, the spitting image of his mate, though with a completely different past and no recollection of him. It’s a beautiful story. It’s a journey. It’s sad and tragic, but it’s their story and it’s life in all its ugly glory. I loved every minute and I feel like I have waited a lifetime for their happily-ever-after, though it’s no where near that long!
I think to understand this story you will need to read Book 13 The Shadows, however, if you are a diehard J.R. Ward fan like I am then just read it and enjoy.
Shadow Trez doesn’t know what he is doing any more after the greatest loss of his entire being. Selena one of the chosen was his entire world.
Trez has dark thoughts, thoughts of leaving the world once and for all until she comes into his life…
Enter Therese, who struggles with her life that has led her to Caldwell. Then she meets Trez and things fall into place although she doesn’t at first know why so many stare at her.
The fates being what they are decide to give this male a second chance but will he take it?
And will Therese want him after all she finds out?
Love, Loss, Grief and learning to love again…
As with all books by this author I loved it. And I chose audible so the story came to life.
Love the narrator he does a fantastic job with each character and makes this story much more intense.
I listened to the audible of this book.
I have read some of the other reviews & see some people didn’t like the book so much but have to say I loved having Trez & Therese/Selena get their HEA as I wasn’t happy that Selena got killed in the first place in The Shadows (was in tears). It was just heartbreaking experiencing Trez’s pain. Also loved how the Brother’s, Rhev all had his back in WWFU & were involved in the story. This was an amazing book!! So I’ll now be waiting impatiently for The Sinner!
The entire series is entertaining. Ward has created a unique vampire mythology.
This is another fabulous story in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. It is a story about Trez, after his shellan Selena died. What a superb series.
This book is about Trez and his second chance, given the fact that he lost his mate in a very tragic way, and he was struggling to survive until Therese appeared in his life and he got so intrigued by her….
Could he finally have a happy ending??? Read and find out
I love the BDB world. Lassiter giving Selena back to Trez was the best. I loved that they new one another instantly even if it took a while to settle. Trez was hurting, and Lassiter was able to help. Loved loved loved!
Admitting I cried at the beginning of the book as Trez replays Selena’s death almost had me thinking I can’t do this again. But then there is Therese, how is this possible the she is the exac copy of Trez’s mate? Does it matter? His queen is here with him and that is all that matters, right? Trez has a connection with her, and Therese has feelings she can not explain. After she left what she thought was her blood family she headed to Caldwell without knowing why. And now she has Trez. As tragedy strikes her family, Trez has more questions then answers, not sure this is right. Is it even possible? JR Ward has brought another brilliant story with emotions all over. Lassiter has his moment to ‘shine’ which is awesome. An emotional story that leads to a great HEA the Trez deserves. I love this series and can not wait for more.
I’m a big fan of the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series but this book was disappointing. Other than forwarding the underlying series storyline, it seemed unnecessary. The story was predictable and rushed. It honestly seemed like JR Ward was asked for a Christmas themed story and she threw one together.
I’m still a big fan though and I hope the next one is back up to her normal standards.
