Where There’s Smoke by Susan May Warren
Really interested in how the smokejumpers fight forest fires especially because they are all over the west coast states.
Starts out with Jed and Kate and something went wrong while on the front lines of the fire in Alaska. They came out with all kinds of scars and meet up again many years later on the same team fighting fires again.
Jed is in control and gives her the job of training others because he knows her father Jock had trained her well. Like mystery surrounding the drone, the commadrie among the jumpers and how they fire the fires.
Handful of characters but easy to keep track of. Bit of romance, travel and it’s well rounded book to read.
Lots of religion and praying to help get them through the really bad times…
Other excerpts from other stories in the series are included at the end.
Scary parts also when they are surrounded by the fire-like tips of digging a hole so you can breathe.
Wow!! What a story!! Loved it so much!! From the fast paced fires to the sweet moments between Kate and Jed, ‘Where There’s Smoke’ had me hooked from the very first chapter!! Loved the action and page turning moments! Also, the chemistry between Jed and Kate was really smokin’ hot! It was passionate and clean which I loved and I also really appreciated the faith elements. It was lovely to see Kate and Jed’s personal journey and all the oppositions they had to overcome; both outside and in themselves. Can’t wait to read about the other characters’ stories in the rest of the series. A great start to the series!! Another fantastic novel by Susan May Warren. I have to say, she is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors. Can’t wait to read more by her. I would highly recommend ‘Where There’s Smoke’!
Great story. About firefighters and their struggles,
This is a good christian romance and mystery novel based on the lives of smoke jumpers. It gives a good description of the dangers this job has and the fears the jumpers face. Kate is a jumper that has taken some risks that has almost cost her life. Jed her supervisor and boss has trouble keeping his love for Kate and her job separate. Add to the mix an arsonist who is trying to eliminate the team. This is book one in a series.
I just couldn’t get into the story
An uplifting story of love, loss, suspense, healing and faith. An arsonist takes aim at a smokejumpers’ community already reeling from the loss of members of the locally based crew and legendary leader, Jock, Kate’s father and Jed’s mentor. As Kate and Jed battle wildfires, they each come face to face with their own private fears, remorse and guilt. The search for truth and healing leads them both to finding their own lost faith and in healing, they discover a love neither expected to ever find as their own.
Loved it
Wow! On the edge of my seat often throughout this book. Irritated at Jed and at Kate at different times, sometimes in the same instance. But such precious, sweet, and protective moments as well. Definitely a good read! I highly recommend. Looking forward to reading the next one in the series!
Good book. Tells not only about hotshots and fire jumpers but the struggles in their lives and relationships.
This has enough action to keep you reading while adding enough romantic interest to keep you wondering. An enjoyable read
One of my favorites that I have re-read over and over!
Very informative about this type of fire fighting, purchased the next couple of books in this series because I liked it so much!
I loved this book. It is an action filled story of faith and love.
STRONG characters.
Really fun book to read. Learned some hard things about fire jumpers. There were parts I skipped just because they were the usual romantic parts that didn’t add to the story, but add to my frustration of non-communicators.
I never thought of the Guys and Gals that had to go down into the fires by plane. Very interesting and made you respect those fires and what could happen if you didn’t prepare for them.
Loved it. Very realistic. Good writing.
The story picks up from an earlier book but is easy to follow without reading the first one. It is action-packed although predictable—you know the boy gets the girl at the end. However, the twists that get them there are interesting. Learning about fire-fighting is also intriguing.
This story took me to the fire fighting of The west. There was interesting technical information but the best part of the book was the writing style. Her description of locations and characters were great. Her characters were flawed and interesting and dynamic. Looking forward to reading more of her works.
Most all of Susan May Warren’s books have a message which speaks to some of the daily struggles we have as Christians. Her stories are exciting and her characters are well developed. Each of her books leave me ready to read another!
