The follow-up to Where the Blame Lies—Where the Truth Lives is a gripping, page-turning, romantic thriller that will leave you gasping for breath.
When the director of a local mental health hospital is found murdered and mutilated, Homicide Detective Reed Davies is first on scene. What was done to the body is gruesome. Inexplicable. But Reed is dealt another curveball when he finds that the … that the doctor who discovered the victim is someone Reed is intimately familiar with—a woman with whom he shared one passionate night weeks before.
Dr. Elizabeth Nolan is somehow tangled up in the crime, and even while Reed must now question her possible involvement, he can’t help being drawn to the beautiful, enigmatic woman.
As more bodies appear and the devious killer terrorizes Cincinnati, a shocking connection begins to emerge, one that not only involves Dr. Nolan, but Reed himself. A connection more twisted and elaborate than he can imagine. Now Reed must hunt the monster down, a killer who will stop at nothing to see his diabolical plan to its final, deadly conclusion.

What a beautiful, gutting, twisty-turning, unpredictable love story! The mystery will keep you suspended on the edge, flipping pages, and biting your nails. Oh, it plays out so brilliantly, with the perfect amount of heart-in-throat tension. A tender romance threads through the pitch dark story–dark in the way a thriller should be. The tragedy, the bittersweet justice… This book will stay with you. I highly recommend.
I finished WHERE THE TRUTH LIVES by Mia Sheridan and I LOVED it!
You don’t have to read WHERE THE BLAME LIES first, as book books can stand on their own, but I recommend reading them in order.
I’m blown away by these romantic suspense stories. Mia does an amazing job of weaving a top-notch forensic mystery into a thrilling romance.
And…it’s FREE to read on Kindle Unlimited.
If you’re looking for a page-turning escape, give WHERE THE TRUTH LIVES a chance.
If there is one thing, I love more than a swoon worthy romance it is a swoon worthy romance with a bit of murder mystery. Toss in a hot detective or cop and I am 100% in. Seriously though, who doesn’t love a protective guy in a place of power?? Maybe it is just me.
Where the Blame Lies was one of my favorite books of 2019 so you can believe when I saw that Mia Sheridan was coming out with a book two in the Where series I knew I had to read it. Where the Truth Lives is a perfect continuation of WTBL. You get to see more of your favorite characters and most importantly you get to meet some new faces.
As with my review on Where the Blame Lies I don’t want to give away any spoilers or go too much into detail because it will take away from the story and you deserve to enjoy this reading experience as much as I did.
Liza is a psychologist set on helping her patients overcome their trauma and mental illnesses because if there is one thing, she knows it is trauma. Liza’s story is heartbreaking and tragic, you will cry your eyes out. Liza has a one-night stand with a stranger but after several weeks she can’t seem to get him off her mind when one day she walks into work and finds the body of her boss, eyes missing. Soon the detectives arrive, and she can’t believe her eyes when one of the detectives is none other than the man from several weeks ago.
Reed is the son of a serial killer; the byproduct of rape and he is determined to not be anything like his father. When he turns 18, he goes to meet Josie, his biological Mom and things seems to start falling into place for Reed. Now nearly a decade later Reed is a detective for the Cincinnati Police Department. One day he gets a call about a murder, when he shows up, he sees the woman he hasn’t been able to get off his mind for the last few weeks. As the murders increase and the plot thickens Reed is determined to figure out not only how Liza is involved but how he can get her to open up to be the woman he knows she is.
As the story starts to build, more people become targets and an old murderer comes to town Reed is left wondering how he can figure this out and keep the woman and family he loves safe. I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning finishing this story. Around every corner there is a new plot twist, a new story developing and a new heart pounding discovery. I was on the edge of my seat to finish the story and I finished it the same way I started it, in tears. The conclusion was every bit as beautiful as I could have hoped for.
Now this is a thriller! My heart was pounding in parts. Mia Sheridan writes both love and thrillers. I am drawn to the thrillers. Her ability to create a character is wonderful. I love some and equally hate some. I loved Reed, Arryn, Ransom, Liza, etc! Reed is such an amazing man! How could you not love him. This book sucks you in and doesn’t let go. I will definitely be picking up more by her!
This is Josie and her captures babies story, Reed. You do need to read where the blame lies first. Liz is a psychologist, but has a tragic past. Reed didn’t know about his until he was a teenager. Both want to atone for things that weren’t their fault. In the end, thise who are bad dongood; while others stay bad. Amazing characters and storyline. Wont be able to put the book down!!
Not my favorite….. a woman who grew up to be a therapist when she had a very abusive past her dad was abusive her brother tried to kill her and killed the father she meet a great guy whose dad was a serial killer and he was a detective.
Reed Davies, son of Josie from the first story in this series, is a homicide detective, called to the scene of a gruesome crime that was discovered by Elizabeth Nolan (Liza). Her boss has been murdered and his mutilated body is just the beginning of a story about being hinted at by the offender.
When more bodies are found, all killed in s similar way, a connection begins to form between each of them, including Liza. Reed and Liza have been spending a lot of time together and things have grown into something more than friendship. They both have really interesting back stories which makes their connection even more special, they know what it feels like to have suffered loss and the grief that goes with that.
As Reed gets closer to discovering who is behind all of these senseless killings, he also realises that Liza’s life may now be in danger, it is truly a race against time to find who is responsible for this terrible killing spree.
There is no beating around the bush with this story, things happen right in the beginning that bring the two main characters into each other’s lives fairly quickly and it does not slow down until the thrilling, heart pounding end.
Wow, ok so I finished book 1 for the second time so that I wouldn’t have any holes in my memory when I started this one.
This book was pretty great actually I feel like we got closure that we did and didn’t get from the first book.
There were a lot of little things that make up the whole of this book it was a little confusing at times because there are just soo very many characters but once I got that worked out I really liked how this book played out.
The romance was a nice story-line and I think because these books are so content heavy with serious stuff we needed something to root for.
Again I am glad we got closure on a few things that were left hanging from book 1. I don’t want to give anything away I will just say that Reed is one heck of a good man and I love that he respects Josie and Zach the way that he does.
Again great narrators, two of my favorites.
Man, what a mind trip! So much happens and there are so many surprises you really won’t know which way is up. I loved this book just as much as the previous and really enjoyed seeing how everything worked out after the first.
A must-read romantic suspense!
wonderful book great story
Magnificent.
I need a minute.
I need another minute.
Still need a minute.
I watched something on tv once about people putting their hands on their heads to protect themselves if they are scared or feel threatened. I don’t understand the science of it but I did read part of this book with my hands on my head.
Holy cow!
I thought Where The Blame Lies was brilliant. Completely different for Mia Sheridan. More intense thriller than romance with fabulous characters. Where The Truth Lives is equally as enthralling.
Reed Davies is the cop investigating a serial killer. Liza Nolan the brave, brave woman who finds the first victim. But what is the link? I followed the clues, read between the lines and felt very proud of my sleuthing skills.
That ending though! Absolutely knocked the wind out of me. Hands on head!
“The thing about monsters in the dark, Reed, is that if you can’t escape them, you have to let them in. They force you to.”
“Don’t deny your past, Liza. It’s not your shame to carry. Grieve it, and then use it to strengthen others. You made it. You’re here, and I have no idea how, but you are. That’s the story I really want to hear. Maybe someday you’ll tell it to me, because I’d like to believe monsters don’t get the final say.”
“From darkness had come light, a luminous ray of strength and virtue that shone brightly on the dim corners of the world.”
“All people moved between darkness and light into the gray areas between the two, the only difference between any of them being the degree in which they walked in shadow and how far they traveled into murkier depths.”
“Heaven showed up in small stolen moments. And he had learned to recognise them for what they were. To pause, to hold them close and breathe them in as they filtered slowly, slowly through his soul. And for those tender slips of precious time, the broken world was only perfect.”
There is always a message in Mia Sheridan’s books. For me this one is about facing your demons and coming out stronger as a result of it.
Holy Bejesus! This book is just as captivating as its predecessor. Perfect writing, once again!
Suspenseful Edge of your seat read from Mia. WOW
The connections from Where the Blame Lies and continuation of the story with Reed a homicide detective and Liza who is a Doctor at a Mental Institution
This is full of suspense and so well written it is Amazing Must Read of 2020
I’d like to believe monsters don’t get the final say.
In book two, we follow Reed Davies, the son of Josie from book one, as he tries to find and stop a serial killer that is terrorizing his town, including his one-night stand, Dr. Elizabeth (LIZA) Noland.
…freedom was bigger and far more powerful than their fear.
The beginning of this story was emotional and painful to read. My heart ached for Liza and her siblings. It was the incredible strength that Liza showed that kept me glued to my kindle. The middle, though, was a little slow, and I didn’t like the insta-love. But the last 1/4 of this story sped up like out of control freight train! It was intriguing and so incredibly intense my heart was racing, and I was breathing so fast I’m surprised I didn’t hyperventilate.
This series has been unnerving, unexpected, and suspenseful, not at all what I’ve come to love about Mia Sheridan’s writing. And where they lacked the same intense passion from her other books, they were surprisingly dark and twisted, and I enjoyed it all the same.
I was provided a review copy by the author; this did not influence my opinion of the book.
somewhat romantic
Let me start off by saying prior to picking up this book, Where the Truth Lives, the sequel to Where the Blame Lies, I was in a reading funk, and then I began this book, and OMG!! Where the Truth Lives is beyond brilliant!! I really wish I could give it 10 stars. I truly did not think that the sequel could be as good, if not better, than the original, but somehow Mia Sheridan did it. I could not put this book down once I started it. The twists, the turns, the mystery, the intrigue, the romance, the suspense, all kept me glued to my seat reading this book, because I had to find out how it ended. In Where The Truth Lives, Mia Sheridan has given her readers a plot so twisted that by the time the book ends, you will be asking yourself who was really the bad guy in this one? And let me tell you, you will not know who did it until Mia Sheridan is ready to reveal that little twist. I am telling you I was truly blown away by Where the Truth Lives. This book is magnificent.
Where the Truth Lives, although it is the sequel, picks up many years in the future, with the main focus on Homicide Detective Reed Davies and Dr. Elizabeth Nolan, and their road to a happily ever after. Of course, we learned of Reed Davies in Where the Blame Lies, but now we truly get to meet him, and fall in love with him. Plus, Reed teaches us and Dr. Nolan that just because we may have come from or been born from a tragic past, it doesn’t mean that it completely dominates our lives and determines our future. That tragedy can provide us with the strength we need to overcome. Although Reed and Dr. Nolan first meet due to horrendous circumstances, the two of them are perfect for each other. They bring out the other’s best, and while we are engrossed in racing to not only stop and solve the murder mystery occurring throughout the story, we are rooting for Reed and Dr. Nolan’s love and happiness. Reed is such a strong character, and a fierce protector of those he loves, and Dr. Nolan is an absolutely great character, because she so much stronger than she believes she is.
Where the Truth Lives is a brilliantly written murder mystery interwoven with a beautiful and tender romance. And of course, since it is a sequel, characters, such as our beloved couple Zach and Josie, from Where the Blame Lies make appearance, but we also get to fall in love with new characters, such as Reed’s partner, who is beyond loyal to Reed, and Arryn, Zach and Josie’s beautiful daughter. I highly recommend Where the Truth Lives, but remember you must read Where the Blame Lies first, and either way, prepare to have your mind blown by this series. Another excellent read by Mia Sheridan
It was so easy to fall in love with Reed! Get follow up to book one!
My goodness Mia. It has taken me DAYS to get my review into words on this book. DAYS. I still an unsure about how I felt other then floored. This book floored me. It was complicated and twisted and everything I needed it to be.
With this book we are fats forwarded to the future. Our young boy is now a man and he has become everything his mother had hoped for him. He is the guy who hunts the bad guys and protects women like her.
Then, something far too similar to his past comes to light and things get more complicated from there on. It was a wild ride. I spent literally half the book confused as to what I was feeling and the other half trying to solve this serial killer’s story. Guys, you have no idea what this book has in store for you. If you thought the first book was wild, then you have absolutely zero idea what Mia has in store for you this time.
I love seeing this side of Mia. I love that she dove head first into the thriller suspense side of romance and it was breathtaking. This book ties up every question you didn’t know you had from book one and delivers perfection.
Ms Sheridan just gives and gives, and goes beyond the bounds of a single genre. She has proven a true talent for mystery wound around and through romance. This continuation of the Where the Blame Lies and carries Josie and Zach and their daughter, Arryn, but focuses on Josie’s son, Reed Davies, the son she bore alone and chained to a wall by Reed’s biological father, Charles Hartsman. Dr. Liza Nolan, a psychologist at Lakeside Hospital for mental patients, discovers a body in the hospital, and Detective Davies is head investigator on the case that turns out to be a series of similar murders. As the romance between Reed and Liza intensifies, so does the mysterious disappearances and body count. Ms Sheridan has given us quite the puzzle of characters, clues, and mazes of facts, as we watch how Reed and LIza start out with one night of stranger passion to deep, abiding love. I don’t know how she can leave a bread crumb trail that is so neatly tied up into a deranged plan to “cleanse” the earth from perceived evil. The final scene of the horror that Liza experiences is almost beyond what I could bear and I applaud Ms Sheridan for being able to write that scene. And then she adds the final decor of the beauty of the love story between this beautiful couple, his biological mother, her husband, Zach, and his extended step-sister and brothers. She carries over the beautiful and immediate love between Josie and Zach right into Reed and Liza and I can’t get enough!!! I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book and I give my review with pleasure and honor!!
